EDIT: Good lord y'all. "Chaos" is being used sarcastically. Try to calm down.
Oct 26, 2011 - NAVONA GALLEGOS riding VATRICIA in the Adult Open Jumper short course falls, horse runs wild and free-jumps a water obstacle backwards.

The old man was my husband, Jay Shuttleworth, horseman, famous bit maker and love of my life. He had ridden every kind of horse good and bad his whole life, trained them, showed them, taught and later in life made custom bits for everyone, including the international teams - you can read articles about him if you look him up. I found this clip by accident - he had always been the one to throw himself into a dangerous situation to help with a horse and it lit my heart to see him still trying to do this just about a year before he had to stay home permanently because of early Alzheimers. I love that you all noticed him - thank you. Jay died in 2019.

For all angry that the horse could have gotten tangled- he was spooked! It isn't the rider's fault and it isn't the horse's fault. The horse tripped unexpectedly, the rider fell, the bridle came of and pony got spooked. So he ran. That's what horses do.

This is why they're called accidents because nobody is to blame. Could it have been prevented? Why sure it could have, just as most accidents could be avoided, if only,... you fill in whatever fits. Courses are meant to be tough and hard to navigate for the Open Jumper competitions. They test a riders skills and timing abilities to the max. A rider should know their surfaces in order to avoid such a spill, but then there are always those anyway. Always will be.

This was handled extremely well, in my opinion. Everyone stayed quite and didn't try to stop the spooked horse, the let it run itself out, then, they calmly gathered it up. It's always nice to see people that understand horses and how to be responsible around them, if that hadn't been the case, the horse probably would've spooked more and gotten injured. Props to everyone there!
@gemini2.06
@gemini2.06 9 жыл бұрын
No offense but their are way to many uneducated people on this site. If anyone didn't already notice, I'm almost positive that this rider was using a hackamore, yes I've seen jumpers using them so don't say that they are either illegal or never used in this level of show jumping or sj in general. People saying that this horse spooked at something is completely false, it was a minor stumble and he got right back up and even proceded to jump another fence. And people who are commenting saying that the rider is an idiot for askin her horse to make that sharp of a turn is also false, in show jumping you need to make tight turns no matter what, and they get tighter and tighter as you proceed through the different levels. This horse was clearly capable of making that sharp of a turn, or else it would have been much more drastic if he wasn't. This is in no way chaos, nor a rider error, the horse stumbled and the rider fell off, and the horse even proceeded to jump another fence because he knows what his job is and enjoys it, or else he wouldn't have done what he did. It is no ones fault, it's simply and error and an accident, it happens.

They may have recovered, had the bridle not slipped and panicked him.... sweet how the old boy calmed him and brave of him to enter the arena knowing such a large horse was frightened and excitable, yet he just shuffled upto him, put his hand on him and thus allowing another person to 'catch' the horse. Some people really have a natural touch with them. My nan was the same. Xx

Sad to see the fall, but I noticed that at 1:10 that the horse jumped a fence on its own - the horse appears to be very competitive.

I love this horse! A great rider too - the horse wasn't tense at all, and recovered very well from the panic of being entangled. So many times we see horses absolutely loose their minds when things go wrong, switch to total wild prey behaviour, and gallop like mad through, over, under and on top of obstacles and people, injuring or killing themselves in the process. This is an indication to me that the horse has been under pressure, and there's no bond of trust between mount and rider or driver. So this is really lovely to see and absolutely not chaos!

Chaos is a big word. Sad the horse tripped, not his fault, nor the rider's. Good horse.

Awhh what a sweetie :) she's a lucky girl! It was obviously an accident people, no ones fault so no need for the ignorant blame game. And that's funny it was a English hackamore, I thought bitters bridal we're illegal! I think they should be allowed, anyways it was pure luck for horse and rider here. Great and entertaining round :)

If I'm not mistaken, hackamores are allowed in the jumper ring, but not the hunter ring. I do wish they were allowed in hunters...

What a sweet man! Comforting the horse. This is proven to not be the horse or riders fault. If anything it was a problem with the footing or just a trip like usual. When I fall off, my horse just stands there and looks down at me like “you good mama?” Then when I get up her glares at me and is like “idiot mama, you could’ve stayed on my back”
