I was glad to see that one groom pat Chaumont on the neck, as a reassurance or praise for being good while being led back. It was also good to see the vet check his heart rate, then check his forelegs to make sure there was no injury from when Chaumont burst through the starting gate. Though he did not race at great speed the whole time, you could still admire his endurance and will to run. That is a horse's joy and was lovely to see, even though it ruined his race. I do wonder how he could force his way through the gate?

One of the race commentators here in the U.S. said that the front of the gate is held by magnets so that they'll 'give' if enough pressure is applied. This is to minimize chances of a fractious horse being injured. (Actually, not sure if the same mechanics apply in Japan, but it looks like they probably do.)
3:07 That was an interesting jump! This horse is in the wrong sport. He should be in endurance or cross-country. Amazing that he kept running for so long!
Looks like he hardly even broke a sweat, lovely horse who loves to run free 🎉

and that is why you must always have a bucket of food and treats ready for emergencies like this one! no matter how focused and determined , even that horse would have full stopped for a treat! 😁
What I love about this horse is that he's not just interesting in getting out of work -- and he's not interested in getting back to the barn -- he's on a joy ride. And with no out-rider to catch him, he had lots of time to do it.
