The best thing about the Dozen is that Jeff D. Lowe has created a world of absolute chaos (reminiscent of all the game show hosts Bill Hader played on SNL) and I'm pretty sure nobody fully understands how it works besides him. But he gets so excited when there's an epic battle like this one. And he even gets hyped just talking about how the rankings will be effected and all that. You have teams that have played 8 matches and teams that have played 2 matches and I have no idea how the ranking system works. It seems like teams forget about doubling and lifelines almost every match and Jeff has to remind them they can double dip or ask them if they want to double on a category. The categories and questions are written and adjusted on a match-by-match basis to make it even. Imagine if the Jeopardy producers were like, "We have a contestant who is a big sports guy and the other two are nerds. So let's throw in a category on ancient civilizations for the archaeologist and a category on 19th century poetry for the English teacher."

Going second is such a clear advantage. The NFL one clearly the second guy was going to be similar to Bud Dupree (played with a team for awhile and then signed with a new team this offseason). Same with baseball. Since the first wasn't McCutchen, you knew the second one wouldn't be a bigger name player for the Nats. You should do a coin toss before each game to determine who goes second because there is a clear advantage.
