Don't forget that there are two different daemon princes The Daemon Prince (Heretic Astartes) which has 8 wounds, and 10 leadership. He also doesn't get the daemon specific rule, like Unstoppable Ferocity, when he picks an allegiance and he gets Death to the False Emperor. Then there is the Daemon Prince of Chaos (Chaos Daemons) has 10 wounds, meaning it can be targeted normally in shooting, and has 9 leadership and does get the daemon specific rule. Otherwise they are exactly the same.

Since you can now split CC attacks between all weapons, I'm thinking Abaddon might always want to make 5 attacks with the Talon and then another one with the Sword to get the additional attacks.

You don't even need to make one attack with the sword. At the start of the fight phase it just says roll a d6 and he gets that many extra attacks with it. So you just use Six attacks with the Talon, and however many you rolled you get with the Sword. If you roll a 1 even though you take a wound you still get 6 attacks with the talon unlike previous editions..

Steed of Slaanesh on Chaos Lord cost a point less, gives you an extra attack and the steed itself attacks. I'll totally go with the Steed. An extra attack with a powerfist is so nice. Bike is tougher, but the Steed is for melee Lords. Also the Mounts gives them the Daemon Keyword, which mean they get buffed by Heralds.

Yes, but the quality is better then the quantity, because they would still have 2 strength 6 ap -1 attacks, and they can attack twice per turn, which is way better against weaker vehicles (toughness 6) and anything with toughness 3

Abaddons sword simply states whenever he fights; doesn't say you have to be fighting with the sword. So you would always roll the D6, if you don't roll a 1 you can then do his 6 base attacks with either the Claw or the Sword, and then however many extra attacks you rolled but they use the Sword profile.

I dislike the Icon of Excess because I dislike Death to the False Emperor. I really don't like army specific rules that are only effective against certain armies. If it had been "You gain ability X and against IMPERIUM you also gain Y" then I'd be okay. I also really really hate the fact that "Bolter, Bolt Pistol, Chain Sword" is no longer an option. Hell even a "You may replace your bolt pistol with a Chain Sword" would have been nice... because a large portion of my chaos marines are equipped with bolter and chain sword. (I think they also invalidated the loadout on several Dark Vengeance Chosen by this change)

Its just to add more narrative into the tabletop game. which in my opinion makes the game more fun. NOTE i don't play tournaments or anything I prefer narrative and Thematic games. But each to there own :)

I have some chaos space marines painted with a Slaanesh theme - do you think it would be worth playing them as noise marines or as normal chaos space marines (they don't have any sonic equipment)? It is worth it for the extra attack when they die?

I'm happy that the Daemons Power points do not go up if he is Mark of Tzneetch having that 4++ is Beautiful :D However being a Mark of Slaanesh is brutal for combat! Always striking 1st in Combat is no joke with the dual claws for what 7 atks smacking things around with 2 damage each unsaved wound at -2 and death to the false emperor on 5+ & 2 Powers. Fun times!.

I did the math, a unit of 10 Khorne Berzerkers attacking Spacemarines with chainaxes will do an expected 4.66 wounds in the fight phase, where as if they were armed with chainswords it will do 4.59. So it's a tiny upgrade vs a similar unit. Where as if you were fighting something with toughness 5, chainswords drop to 3.44 wounds per fight phase, where as axes remain 4.66. TLDR: If you take chainaxes then charge something with toughness 5 for maximum value.

Biggest point for me to bring up; The Lord vs Sorcerer you have to remember that the Lord is hitting better, along with being more survivable. Though the spells are good obviously and have some extended utility. Sorcerers *not* in terminator armor do not have an innate invulnerable save. Chaos Lords get a 4++, along with buffing nearby units. Something to keep in mind.

I will admit at the moment I am yet to see the Chaos Index but I am not understanding the hate for Chaos 8th Ed. I'm looking in the comments and seeing a lot of hate for the 'Death To The False Emperor' rule. It is bothersome that so many of Chaos' cool stuff is only directed at the Imperium. But at the same time according to the fluff (and I am no expert) the Imperium is Chaos' enemy number 1. It makes sense to have those rules from a fluff perspective. My issue with the 6th/7th codex, as I'm sure many people found, was that the Chaos units were dramatically overpriced even in their core format. Then having to pay an eye-watering amount of points for those upgrades that were available to you meant fielding a Chaos army was like playing a smaller Loyalist Army with some little tweaks that meant the armies were somewhat different. I've been playing for about a year and I'm used to losing as a Chaos player. If it carries on into 8th I'll likely sell up. But you have to make the most of what you've got. Despite the similarities if you play CSM they way the loyalists play you will lose. They are a supremely tactical army that take a very patient hand to guide them. If you want to win every game they're not the army for you. If you want every one of your games to turn out differently they are a very interesting force to run. If only because you're likely to do as many wounds to your own heavy hitters. HOWEVER I am optimistic about 8th Ed. It looks to be more melee based which suits CSM. Particularly Khorne, which are probably the easiest and most popular Chaos force to run. However crucially its about being tactical and I'd argue the way 8th ed is looking it seems a far more tactical game now. I'm optimistic but we shall see.

Also worth a mention that powerfist on the Lord make them useful against vehicles and monsters due to doing d3 damage per wound. I would say they are a must.

You guys were saying how the Sorcerer is the exact same as the Lord except minus 1 to toughness and wounds, but gains psyker powers. You overlooked a very important thing. The Sorcerer doesn't have a Sigil of Corruption so they don't have an invul save (except for Sorc in term armor which has a 5+)

We don't even get half the discussion. We get three psychic powers, Failbadon, the Chaos Lord, Daemon Prince and the regular sorcerers. It's not even close to half the discussion. For most of the time the two are busy comparing the bike options to the other options. You can even clearly see them cut right after Dave says Khorne Juggernauts and how he used to not consider them, before going straight into Steeds of Slaanesh. What the hell is that about?!

If you can split attacks for close combat weapons, Abaddon can make 6 attacks with his talon in melee, then the 1d6 bonus attacks with his drach'nyen (as you have to use them on it) That's pretty nuts.

I understand that this is meant to be a discussion and that you have put more into the vault, but as other commenters have said this is kind of depressingly limited. You do not get very far into the index at all and there are constant pauses in dialogue for reading/thinking. That is not inherently a problem ( It is nice to see actual discussion and not have it feel super scripted), but it has lead to 30minutes =/= a lot of content. I understand the vault is a large part of your business model, but I would be more inclined to join ( I say this I will probably end up subbing either way) if this video contained more information and got a little further into the index, so that I know the the next section does not feel as sparse. Other than that, The stuff you did cover was awesome and Thank you for posting as always.

I think Josh was being perhaps too subtle with Dave about the Chaos Lord on Steed of Slaanesh. What I think Josh was trying to say is that any role that the steed lord would do he would have to do by himself because nobody else has that kit option (ie., steed's of slaanesh) with it's curious blend of advantages. It's because of this that the lord on steed is the red headed stepchild, and will probably die because he by necessity sorta becomes that loner. Sure he could be kept with bikes; but if that's the case why not just have him on a bike. Pretty sure Dave that's exactly what Josh was trying to say. One of the best things about the Daemon Princes (I agree we'll see more of them) is that they're one of the few Monsters in the game that don't degrade as they take wounds. They're just as killy on one wound as they are on 8 (or; in the case of Daemon Princes of Chaos for Chaos Daemons; 10)

Honestly the Tzeentch one sounds pretty sweet all considering... if you have 4-5 Banners each Psychic Phase you roll however many times = to the amount of Banners? That sounds awesome. If you surround an HQ unit any number of Wounds caused to them that could potentially negate Invuln saves sounds pleasant to me lol

Daemon Prince with twin talons and warp bolter is 165 points or 198 with wings. 7, Str 7, AP -2, D2 attacks hitting on 2s and rerolling ones. Insanely cheap for the rerolls to your allies and himself, psychic powers (or 1 A with Khorne) and has no degrading damage profile that can hide among cultists and other chaff.

Abaddon is a beast, though fluff wise Drach'nyen should be dealing mortal wounds. Maybe a single attack for d6 mortal wounds, instead of d6 attacks for d3 regular wounds each? I don't know. Anyway, still pretty impressive overall. Also, you don't have to pick one weapon or the other, you can put your regular attacks into the talon and still make drach'nyen's bonus attack.

On rhino blowing up you roll for all you deployed and any one's you picked. So you don't roll for a HQ separate if he is with a unit in a transport also that old DP model with the warp bolter is still available!

Concerning the "Flying" keyword and being able to charge flying units, does it prevent jump pack equipped units from being attacked by non-flyers? I'll get my rulebook in a couple weeks but it'd be cool to know =)

It does not. The rule for regarding assaulting a flyer comes from their own specific rules, not the Fly keyword itself. Units with the Fly keyword are allowed to assault a flyer, but may otherwise be assaulted by units without the Fly keyword.

All of my local stores already have copies. It's of no issue for me (and likely others) to go and visit during our spare time to purview the rules. Coupled with all the leaks everywhere,, the paywall as you put it shouldn't really effect you. Unless you are primarily interested in MWG's thoughts on the units and rules themselves (and the banter in my case) the paywall shouldn't mean anything.

I think you're thinking too much in the "Chaos Marines Only" mindset when talking about the Chaos Lord on Steed of Slaanesh. He'd best be used alongside Slaanesh Seekers. But then there's the problem of "Why would you take a unit who's purpose is to support chaos MARINES when you're using him to support daemons. If you want an SM on a steed, you'd be better off with a Sorcerer. They can keep up with those seekers, and then use Warptime to give them an extra 13"-18" movement ON TOP of their initial 13"-18" movement before they charge.

Every faction only has 3 psycic powers right now. The only exception is Eldar, who have 6 powers (3 from Runes of Fate, Runes of Battle). The eventual codices may introduce more though.

Well, no,. Everything I have seen is that each of the available 3 powers are fairly powerful and usable. 7th edition was full of powers, let alone disciplines, that were either never wanted or used.

yea powerful my ass... ok so the move again is good and the other buff is okay, but the roll 3d6s and on 4+s you get a mortal wound on average you are getting 1 -2 mortal wounds now remember a lot of units now have more wounds, and if you perils of the warp it can do d3 mortal wounds and d3 mortal wounds to all units in 3 inches. Maybe I'm missing something here but right now I feel as though my sorcerer Army is going to do more damage to itself than to the enemies. But hey maybe I'm missing something.

Thumbs Down And even more deserved Thumbs down Because of Paywall for the actual Faction focus Having 4 Models discussed with 3 Psychic Powers is Joke to call Faction Focus (You spent 51 minutes for that so i take it that the Second part is like 4 hours long) (Use Patreon if you have to But i DO not and cannot support anything that is behind Paywall like this)
