The big A on his belt is the Anarchy symbol. It was an extremely common sight on clothes and and as graffiti in the 80s.

@@SnakeWorksStudiogiven the time and place it would be UK punk culture, think sex pistols
@lnutt6772 ай бұрын
@SnakeWorksStudio I think it came about as a reaction to the rising alienation brought on by increasing computerization and political backlash. If I remember rightly, it was a far more common sight in Britain than over here in America.

The old art is awesome. Love the graffiti on the armour. I would draw on my helmet back in 2004 in Afghanistan.

That round thing on the guardsman's shoulder reminds me of a round bit they had on medieval armor. Its to cover the vulnderable area between the shoulder armor and the breastplate.

6:25 The asymmetrical shoulder pads on some of the Imperial Guardsmen (also on a couple of the old Adventurer and Pirate models) make sense for heavy weapons, but I'm pretty sure it was mostly "just because it looks cool".

The stylized A is a common punk meme from the time (A for Anarchy) but this one has a resemblance to the Crass logo ( while looking nothing like it) which is appropriate because, His hands are big he's got big hands, BIG HANDS BIG HANDS BIG HANDS!

Always love your old hammer vids! In the military, the hat the orks are seen wearing is often called a field cap or patrol cap… also, the guardsman with the circular “badge” looks like it may be what is called a besagew, which was common during the days of plate armor… and for the fellow with the “A” belt, the symbol is often called the “anarchy symbol” in punk circles but may have origins with a particular band from the older days
@SnakeWorksStudio2 ай бұрын
Thanks! Do you know the name of the particular band?

@ from what I could find, the band Crass popularized it as a punk symbol in the 70s-80s

In 2nd edition, I liked the description of the Orks as violent psychopaths. My issue was that the art and miniatures all seemed to have a goofy grin on their faces. I loved the 3rd edition Ork box set because the miniatures looked fierce and vicious.

That 1st edition art is funny cause it looks more punk and free, leaving much to the artists imagination, while they were creating all that early version of 40k universe. Lore has strong vibes from brit comic mag 2.000 AD and I love that.

It's all subjective, I suppose, but you can't hate on the correct pronunciation of "arbite" while simultaneously referring to "cat-ak-ans" as "cat-a-chans". The latter sounding rather like a cutesy anime character from the 70's with gigantic eyeballs or something.

I don't care for the Blood Angels and successor chapters because I don't find vampires exciting. If I were going to make a "scary" Marine chapter, I'd base it on the Cenobites from the first 2 Hellraiser movies.
