Its always the sane dynamic, too: idealistic, young, hard core lefties vs their establishment ranks. In the short term, the populist youth wins control of the party--they have both momentum and zeal. I’ll tell you this as an Iowan who went to the democratic caucus tonight. One word, Chaos. This was my first caucus but I knew something wasn’t good mainly because the process was new and the leaders weren’t that well spoken and looked like chicken with their heads cut off. Eventually we got it all done. I had some friends in almost every district of my town and they told me that the bernie supporters were the majority in their districts, pretty much every district was bernie followed strongly by Biden and surprisingly Pete. Warren in my district only got like 4 people to come so that disqualified her so the top were bernie, Biden and Pete. But that’s just my city I would guess. The rest of Iowa is different but we are also one of the more conservative towns so more liberal towns I would expect bernie to come out on top. So I’m hoping bernie comes out as the winner followed closely by Biden. Also I hate trump but congratulations to the Republican Party for actually doing things cleanly and organized, we could learn a thing or two because what’s going on is ridiculous.

I attended the Iowa caucuses. I think that in my precinct, the people "in charge" were unprepared. For some reason, the Iowa Democratic Party decided to introduce preference cards. That decision ended up creating some hybrid model of a caucus and a primary. Lots of people left early. In the past, doing so meant that the total number of people in attendance had changed and the process had to start over (because of the math). Either that rule is no longer in effect, or it simply wasn't enforced.

I rarely ever watch election coverage until the following day, technically it's 3am as i watch this so it is the next day.... but seriously, we need to stop this nonsense before we go insane. NO ELECTION RESULTS SHOULD BE RELEASED TO ANYONE FOR AT LEAST 24HRS. There is absolutely no reason for any one of us, or even the campaigns, to know "preliminary" counts. A primary (in the US) is not an election. It is a nominating process for a private political party.

As someone with degrees in Political Science I would say that people often favor traditions over logic...Why should Iowa (a state that does not represent a typical American State based on race, wage, job type, unemployment, etc.) be the first state to select a nominee for an election? Why are primaries on different days (wasting money, time, and resources)? Again people often do not look at things in terms of logic versus tradition or emotion.
