Dude sold off two young girls to a horribly unimaginable fate, lied about it for over a year, allowing two girls' friendship to die due to mutual guilt over it for different reasons, did not try to relocate, knowing they would come back and he would have to do the same thing again, killed someone that's supposed to be close to him after being confronted on it, trapped another innocent in the basement to cover his tracks, attacked and disarmed a child, holding the child and innocent at gunpoint as he tries to hang all his misdeeds on them. Scared my ass, people reveal who they truly are when their backs are against the wall. He was a monster. He was so flippant about everything as if he had no remorse about giving the twins away.

we don't know if the twins are dead to be honest, and he didn't mean to kill Brody, and he didn't tell them because he was scared of what he did, that's why he ended up hitting Brody in the first place. a blind fit of rage caused by fear he didn't tell them they had to leave cause where would they go? the raiders would find them easier outside the safe zone, and he said and I quote "I'm trying to protect you, ALL of you" he was ding what he had thought was the best solution, yes it was wrong and he regretted it. he even wanted to try and rescue them but couldn't, he made the wrong choices but death was not a proper punishment for it.
