All the inboard ski boat builders have been building wake surfing boats with these features for several years. What's relatively new is Volvo-Penta's Forward Drive (and MerCruiser's even newer forward prop drive) that put the propeller far enough under the boat for safe wake surfing. So now the stern drive boat builders can get in on the act. But wake surfing is taking over watersports boat sales.

Yeah, they are really annoying when a boat like this comes through an anchorage plowing a big wake for his skier, while all the boats in the anchorage are getting tossed about

@@mvcharisma That's just rude and ignorant (and illegal) behavior. In the waters where I boat, I'm more worried about the effects of wakeboarding and wake surfing on shoreline erosion, compared to the relatively small wakes put up by water ski boats.
