Excellent video. I've played Stick since 1994 and I agree with what Pascal said, it's not the kind of instrument you just move to, it takes time to learn. The rewards though are amazing and the instrument never ceases to amaze me in what can be done in various scenarios. I say it's a life lesson playing the Stick, you learn something new every day.

I do so enjoy hearing how well the Stick sounds in the hands of someone with experience and talent. Much respect for how well you play, Pascal!

Couldn't have said it better Captn. Yes it's a small channel, but I love doing it, and it's not monetized yet but I have a few ideas in the pipeline for the next few years. So yes, if you know of anyone who would be interested, please share 🙂

This channel is awesome. I love the variety of instruments, and I'm learning about many I've never heard before. Out of curiosity, who plays the "Pressed for Time" intro song?
@TheStringdom6 жыл бұрын
Stephen Welch actually it's me (James Hodson) and its not pressed for time (although I do love that tune), it's actually a small bit of a piece of mine called Around Finsbury Park. Currently working on a guitar and mandolin album of original pieces. I'll probably spam you all here on the channel when it's out 😁

1:45 Actually the logic with the middle string-or the fact that the lowest string is in the middle- is to be able to play a bass note and a chord or pattern with the remaining fingers of the left hand on the guitar side as well as on the bass side
@TheStringdom5 жыл бұрын
Yes its a great setup, a little counter-intuitive to a guitarist who is used to seeing the strings in ascending order.
@haczabim5 жыл бұрын
@@TheStringdom maybe so, but it's not hard to get used to it at all. I think it'd be harder if for example the notes would get lower the higher you go up the fretboard- or something like that. Or playing bass with the right hand...anyway, here's a link to a video of the creator of the stick playing a theme in which he plays the lower notes with fingers 1-2 of the left hand (anchor) and with fingers 3-4 part of a pattern on the guitar side kzbin.info/www/bejne/hqLFhGl4gct9ptE

I would love to get a Chapman Stick one day, I'm very inspired by players of the Stick and I like to apply stick-like tapping techniques to guitar, but I'd have to practice a bit more, especially with when polyrythms and breaking chords between the two hands are concerned.
