Quest Love is one of the biggest hip hop historians there is, onto of having been in one of the most influential black groups EVER The Roots. He also played in the famous Saturday Night Live band for awhile.

I just want to say if you are born in Africa and immigrate to America, it does not make you an African American. You could be Kenyan American or Tanzania American etc. The term African American is more so associated with black slaves that were brought to America. Unfortunately they could not find their ancestry of were they were from, and thus the term was used. There is no negative in this, but I understand what the brother was saying in the beginning, because there is a cultural difference between African Americans and those who immigrated from Africa. However this does not mean one is better than the other, we should all be looking out for each other, cause the end, the cops and higher powers don't see the difference , at the end your dark skinned man at the end. Frequency sounds like stereotypes to me. Either way, sometimes they are true and sometimes they aren't. People don't always fit the box they are assigned. My cousin HATES chicken and loves classical music and ballet...she is a person of darker skin tone. (I don't know if she's "African" American, because not all came from Africa. Some are from Haiti or other places. Also, have you ever seen a truly "black " or "white" person? I doubt it. We are all shades of brown, pink, red, blue, etc. Most of the black and white thing hangs on for easier identification for cops, because it makes a faster description, but also leaves off much of a description. ) Y'all are so fun to watch and I wish you all a very merry Christmas.
