Chappy Challenge: 40lbs of silver fish in five hours on the pole

Broadwater Lake at Packington Somers Fishery near Coventry is our venue for this edition of Cadence Fishing TV. In this episode James is fishing with the soon to be released Cadence CP1000 Pole and to put it through its paces, Chappy issues James with a challenge. The mission, to catch 40lbs of silver fish in five hours. In an action-packed 50 minutes, James shows you how he approaches the day, going through tactics, bait choices as well as giving you some top pole fishing tips. He also talks you through what to expect from the new Cadence CP1000 pole, due out in August.

Hi James that was a brilliant session. Now 40 lbs of silvers is not an easy target even on a prolific fishery, unless you are on a shoal of bream, and I I know you had the bonus tench but that was an outstanding catch anyone would be proud of! I looked at the prototype pole at the show and it seems to be a good bagging pole in your hands. As always some great camera work by Ian and in over 60 years have never seen two grebe go head to head like that! Regards Bill

Love all the video sessions you produce at cadence. I particularly like the natural venues you choose as destinations. I have quick questions to ask . Looking at the web page on caring for your pole you mention using sanding sealer as a substitute for joint save which I just cant find anywhere. Sanding sealer comes in a few forms . Shellac the original one also cellulose and acrylic which I would think is water based . Can you please help an old angler with worn pole joints .

Ive got a few bits of Cadence tackle and like it. The problem is the stocks seem very limited and a lot of the rods and reels I wanted were out of stock on the web site but I did manage to get the reels I wanted by ringing the supplier. Is everything on a limited run or will there be a restocking? Great video.

Hi Paul, our stock levels are normally very good. However over the last three months we have had to manage delays from suppliers due to the impact of the virus. Hi Nigel, due to my illness I am struggling to get two cameras going. It's just about lack of mobility at the moment. As a consequence of using one camera it's rather tricky to record James then swing the camera round and zoom to the float all in one go without it looking crap. Bear with me if you don't mind and hopefully I'll be back on top form soon. Chappy 🤔

Great video James but with all due respect I think 2 keepnets should have been used tench and any decent bream and hybrids in in the other to safe damaging the smaller fish

Gerald Hinde you been fishing too many commercial matches , if there was Carp I could understand but this is how Angler’s have been fishing for years before commercial matches , we are not talking 100s of pounds catches its around half that and NO CARP . Most Angler’s on a pleasure session will only use one long SPREAD OUT Keepnet . The use of 2 nets , possibly 3 ? , was introduced for Matchmen on commercial matches to protect their fish from damage due to the weights caught .

@@colinbrown4719 i don't fish commercial fisherys the 2 clubs i belong to in Kent you have to have 2 keepnets one for tench and bream and one for smaller fish in matches and plesure fishing it makes sence big fish and small fish in one net exceeding over 40 pounds is bound to coarse damage to the smaller fish

Hi Gerald, yes that’s a fair point on reflection.. I was really surprised to catch the tench in this session. The aim was to catch 40lb of silverfish and we genuinely thought that was a tough target. We always try to put the fish first in our videos and that’s why we handled the fish as carefully and quickly as possible when we weighed in the fish and returned them. I can assure you all the fish went back fine. Many thanks James

@@laurimiking James got within a couple of feet briefly and then backed off. It isn't as though he was coughing in his face - and they were outside too. I'd say it was a slight lapse in concentration from James excited in what he'd caught, that's all. Which after 5 hours of angling is understandable. And no, anglers aren't different from anyone else. There's no excuse for not following the restrictions in place at fisheries since anglers were allowed to return, but I think you're over-reacting to this.
