Thank u soo much Dr. Demi!!! These videos are really helpful especially for me, here all the way from Africa, Namibia. With the newly introduced AS Level for the first time in 2021 in my country and again closure of schools due to COVID-19, its really hectic. But With Dr. Demi, I hope and pray by the time I sit for the end of year exams, I would have grasped quite a lot. THANK YOU DR. DEMI!!!!!

May you please repeat again on how to calculate for the eye piece graticle
@takarapatsanza51482 жыл бұрын
Hello Dr. Demi, May I please ask, You said that 1 unit is equal to 0.0025mm and the question is asking for 20 units, please confirm to find the 20 units you multiply 20 by 0.0025 to get 0.05 which is the value for the 20 units in mm, the question then further says what is the actual size, why are you converting to micrometers, is that how you calculate the actual size? or we use magnification formula to find the actual size
@biowithdrdemi2 жыл бұрын
Whenever you get questions about cell measurement, if it doesn't state the unit your answer should be in, always convert to micrometres. Yes, you use the magnification formula to calculate actual size.

Ma'am 0.1 mm of Stage micrometer is equal to how much Eye piece graticule division? Will it be the same value always or not?
@biowithdrdemi Жыл бұрын
It's usually about 100 units but this will be clearly stated in the exam. It's not always the same value.

Dr.Demi we are getting the image size in cm by measuring using a ruler right?then we should convert it to millimetres and then micro if required know?

Hi Zainab, always calculate in Micrometres except the question asks you for a different unit

@@biowithdrdemi if the question doesn't ask us any specific unit, does it means we have to give the answer in micrometers? and if we give the answer in millimeters, does it mean our answer is wrong?

I wanna ask something......you have emphasized much that always conver to micrometer but cant we convert them to any other unit (of course they have to be same) like instead of converting to micro..i can convert to milli and cut the SAME units to get magnification...is that possible?
@biowithdrdemi2 жыл бұрын
Yes you can do that, but often, the question requires you to convert to micrometers. If you use millimetres, make sure to state it clearly in your answer.

hi doctor demi... how am i supposed to differentiate between the image size and the actual size? could you please explain

The image is the picture or drawing given to you. The actual size is either given or you'll be asked to calculate it. Please watch the examples in the video

I really do not understand this stage graticule thing. Please could you explain
@biowithdrdemi3 жыл бұрын
Hi Wendy., the stage micrometre is a microscope slide that is given to you. When you view it under the microscope, you will see that it is a ruler, usually with divisions of 0.01mm. It used to calibrate the eyepiece graticule which is a ruler that you see when you look directly into the microscope. The best way to approach this is to first get a microscope that is similar to the one you will be using in the exam (check with your school for this). Look into it and take note of the ruler inside of it. That ruler has no units and is called the eyepiece graticule. It's just a ruler with 100 lines. To get its units, place the stage micrometre under the microscope like you would if you were observing a specimen. You will see the stage micrometre as another ruler. The difference is that the stage micrometre has units in mm. You can then determine how many lines on the eyepiece graticule correspond with 0.01mm of the stage micrometre. This will help you determine the actual length of the stage micrometre. I hope this helps.

@biowithdrdemi3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if you mean decimal places. If yes, that's a possibility. It's important to check if the question asks for the answer in decimal points and also check the number of decimal places required
