33:58, Mrs u said that glycolipid helps interacts with water, but a normal phospholipid could do the same thing as long as it has the hydrophobic head, the glyco- group really just doesn't help in interaction with water (i think
@behlogy
@behlogy 2 ай бұрын
You mean *hydrophilic head of phospholipid. Yes theres less glycolipid compared to phospholipids. But small things does affect overall stability still. The carbohydrate part of the glycolipid does help by interacting with water. Also, you will find, in general, that multiple things can do the same thing in cells/bodies. We are just made thay way :)

Hello. I sincerely admire the way you teach. I have a question though…..For the roles of membrane proteins, are transport proteins, enzymes, receptor for cell signaling molecules, anchoring skeleton and cell to cell adhesion the roles of/are intrinsic proteins?
@behlogy
@behlogy Жыл бұрын
There are many many types of membrane proteins so those are the potential roles, yes! It could be intrinsic or peripheral, depending on the type.

In these organisms, compounds very similar to cholesterol serve the same function. so do you have any idea about what are these compounds that is very similar to cholesterol and It is located in prokaryotic cell?

Hello Ms! I encountered a PYQ (MJ/2018/paper 23) where the answer scheme says that fatty acids cross the cell membrane through facilitated diffusion. From my understanding, would it not pass through via simple diffusion as fatty acids are non-polar/lipid-soluble? Thanks :D
@behlogy
@behlogy 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! Lipid soluble substances can pass through the membrane, through the hydrophobic core made of fatty acid tails. It is water soluble substances that can't pass through the membrane.

Miss i have to ask something....... Like in a month or two.....i am going to start my As level so ive decided to like cover 4-5 chapters before going to college......i have studied the 1st 3 chaps of bio (not in that much detail) and i have to ask......is the syllabus of As lvl biology about 10 times harder than o lvl biology.....because if there is so much details to memorize...i might consider picking maths instead of bio.....or is it because i have not entered college yet so that is why im finding difficulty in the course? Please help
@behlogy
@behlogy 2 жыл бұрын
The answer is yes. There is a hugeeee gap btwn a level and o level biology. but there is also a huge gap btwn a level and o level maths. No short cuts, it's hard work, whichever subject you take, even for the top students.

Transmembrane protein goes through the entire phospholipid bilayer. It has a part sticking out of the outer layer of phospholipids and a part sticking out of the inner layer. Extrinsic proteins, however, has a part within the phospholipid bilayer, and a part sticking out of the outer layer only. Does not have a part sticking out of the inner phospholipid layer.
