In the original there was a twilight town citizen who said "If I'm going to be a pig i wanna be a Big ol' fat one, because whats the point of being a skinny pig" the remake removed the word "fat" and changed the word "skinny" to "pipsqueak."

yeah, there's also a crow that had changed dialogue. I just can't include clips unless I can find gameplay of them which is hard for anything not part of the main story.

@@lotus_flower2001 In the original translation for the english version of TTYD, if you've ever played it, Vivian was just straight up a biological girl, as the North American part of Nintendo likely didn't want to deal with the baggage of a character who's questioning their gender. However, in the original Japanese version, Vivian was, in fact, a boy who wanted to be a girl. So this version having that be the case is more accurate.

@@ana_s Sorry, poor choice of words there. I meant the changes were unnecessary and needless, they literally could have just ported the dialogue from the original GameCube version and it would have been fine if you ask me. The "lazy" I mentioned is because I think reverting the dialogue to a closer translation of the original Japanese is just Nintendo being lazy in my eyes, or I guess a better way to put it is Nintendo being bland and airing too much on the side of caution.

I personally think the only people who are mad are anit trans people (i can never remember what word is for being trans and what word is for being against trans people is so writing it like that to be safe) or people who care WAY to much especially when technically the og is the one that's different, really the only thing I dislike is the name change of "the shadow sirens" to "the 3 shadow" and even then I don't even care that much i just think the old name sounded a little less like something is missing

@@based980 The "boys will be boys" rhetoric has been long used to excuse men consciously choosing to act shitty as if it's some innate state of being that cannot be helped and they shouldn't be held accountable for, and that idea does not fly anymore (and never should have to begin with). Society has moved on in the 20 years since the original game came out - catch up.

Im pretty sure the Japanese GameCube edition called Vivian a crossdresser, or something like that. Not sure if the American remake is trying to make Vivian trans, but that wasn't how it was in the original Japanese version I think.

And you’d be Correct about that! However Nintendo had to both keep it accurate enough to how the original English localization treated them (I.E. Make them a simple woman) whilst keeping the actual Japanese canon in check, because if Nintendo knows one thing, PEOPLE HATE CHANGE! But how can you combine a ugly woman with a cross dressing boy? Simple…TRANSFEM TIME! (And yes, that’s how it is on ALL versions of the game, Vivian is canonically a trans woman now in every sense of the word)

That is not the case. Vivan is not a "crossdressing boy" in the Japanese script she exclusively used female pronouns for herself.

While many other characters and even some parts of the game's narration referred to Vivian as a crossdresser in the OG Japanese script, Vivian herself referred to herself as a girl.

She refers to herself as a girl, everyone else calls her a guy. In what world do you read something like "Where are these three sisters?! Aren't you a MAN??????" "Ohh, I'm sorry, Sis... It was an accident..." "That... was NO accident! After this, you're in for a proper punishing!! " and come out of that saying "Vivian isn't trans, she's just a femboy using feminine pronouns as they do" No she clearly identifies as a girl which is why she insists on it despite the constant harassment of her sisters. Not to mention it being funny you saying "NoA just went the easy route to avoids twitter drones" when the Japanese remake script also inserted a new line also reaffirming Vivian as trans along the lines of "I have the body of a man but the heart of a woman" in that spot. Which is not to mention it's quite convenient how no one ever explains what the difference is. In what way is a man who dresses up as a woman and goes by female pronouns different from a trans person which is a man who goes by female pronouns. This is why no one even entertains people like you because your arguments don't have any baseline you're literally going "This character isn't trans, they're just a guy who uses female pronouns that's an entirely different thing grrr the woke mob strikes again" You're literally just transphobic and the word trans makes your blood boil so hard all you can think about is coming up with any reason to not have to use that one word specifically even when nothing changed. Like it would be one thing if you denied Vivian as a guy, but no you're accepting that Vivian is a guy. I dont like how the internet just decided that Vivian was trans based off of one block of dialogue in Chapter 4. (Not saying anything about the old or new Japanese releases, only talking about the English remake.) Vivian is established as a bit of a ditzy character, so it might take her a little while to understand that she is a girl. That doesnt mean that she thought she was a boy for any trans reasons. Unless Nintendo of America themselves put out an official Twitter statement addressing her sexual status, Vivian is a lovable, albeit aloof, ghost lady.

If you want to be transphobic at least do it right. She's a guy who thinks he's a girl not the otherway around. At least I can appreciate this type of complete denial since it's evident you at least care about the character whereas you'll see all over the place people who are so transphobic they argue that Vivian isn't a girl at all and was always a guy. Like seriously what level of transphobic do you need to be to cook up "She's not trans, she's actually a little dumbass who didn't know she was a biological girl for, x amount of time, and this super specific extremely common situation was so important they had to ADD it into the script". What does that add, it doesn't make any sense. If the concept of trans people scares you fine whatever but accept that you're afraid of trans people instead of doing whatever this is. She's a fictional character. Fictional, as in, not real. She doesn't actually exist. If you want to view her exclusively as a woman go for it that's what she would want you to do anyways but her being trans doesn't make a difference she not's a real creature she doesn't have biology that gets altered by your perception of what sex she actually is.

If everyone was all like "I love Vivian's hat" you wouldn't like "People are just defining her by her cool hat with no other personality". People like Vivian because she's a cool that didn't change what did change is the reaffirmation of this aspect of her character. However if we are being serious for a second what else is there really to talk about. Her entire character before she joins your party is about her being abused by Beldam. Once she joins your party she doesn't have any defining characteristics and doesn't really get much screentime considering her overworld ability is useful like twice afterwards you'll likely never have her out again during cutscenes where she can speak again. That's why I'm not a big fan of the partner system in classic Paper Mario, they stop being characters once they join your party. Imagine if Yoshi wasn't used to make you move faster, he would come into existence, say a few lines, join your party and then never see the light of day again.
