Hi I am not sure if you are still responding to comments on this post but I’m a little confused as to when exactly fat is used rather than carbs within the 3 atp systems
@DrJeffWilliams4 жыл бұрын
Hi Lauren. Fat is used under two conditions per say. The first condition is during rest and low intensity exercise. The second condition applies to when you are working out aerobically and have depleted your glycogen stores. If you have ever heard of hitting the wall, that is when the body uses fat as the primary fuel source and hitting that wall is the conversion of the body trying to convert fat to energy, which takes longer. Understand that fat is being used during any system, but just to very smaller extents than what carbs are during anaerobic work and aerobic work. I hope this helps.

I'm assuming we'll probably get into this in later chapters BUT was wondering if you could give and example or two of, when you're testing the RQ of a client, how you go about conditioning someone differently to get them in the direction they SHOULD be going in depending on the individual. I hope this makes sense!

Thanks for the videos, Jeff. They are so helpful. How can we determine which ATP replenish system is being used or best for the client? Does understanding this concept, help us understand when we have pushed a client too far and/or the client is not fueling their body properly? Where does phosphocreatine come from and is it at all related to taking creatine as a supplement? Thanks!
@katieshields3474 жыл бұрын
Also, do you have an easy way to describe the difference between aerobic and anaerobic glycolysis? Which is better? It seems that they both produce 3 ATP. I know that aerobic glycolysis lasts longer than one minute, but it seems that since they both produce the same amount of ATP I am having a hard time understanding what NASM wants us to conclude about the difference.
@DrJeffWilliams4 жыл бұрын
Katie, the ATP system best for the clients is dependent on what your clients are trying to complete. If they are more sprint like and powerful it will be ATP-PCr System, exercises that last about 30-120 seconds where the heart rate is up and you are now using carbohydrates is the Anaerobic Glycolytic system. Anything that lasts for 1 minute or longer and is consistent intensity is the Aerobic system. So it really depends on what the client is doing and for how long and how intense. As far as phosphocreatine, it is a phosphate and a creatine molecule. The phosphate group is from the breakdown of ATP to ADP. The phosphate finds a creatine molecule and binds to it to form PCr (phosphocreatine) and that finds and ADP which is resynthesized into ATP for more energy use. That is how we keep moving for specific times based on intensity. Creatine supplements are used to help with recovery and muscle growth. But if you supplement with it, the aim is to have more creatine available so that it can bind to more phosphates that have been broken off ATP when used for energy. I hope this helps.

There is a good chunk of this on the exam, unfortunately. This is a big deal to understand what type of exercise you would be doing, why, and what stimulus you would be providing as a trainer.
