In this session we cover chapter 44 of Prophets and Kings. Prophets and Kings was first published in 1917 and covers biblical history from the time of Solomon through to the end of the Old Testament. This is "Part 2" of OT with DA because we've already done Part 1, Patriarchs and Prophets. If you haven't already followed along with that reading challenge, please do! I think you'll love it! You asked: how did Daniel distinguish himself that Cyrus kept him and made him one of his three top governors. I think it’s highly likely the Medo-Persians were keeping track of their rivals, and heard about the golden image and how the three Hebrews upset Nebuchadnezzar’s plans and, by Yahweh’s miraculous deliverance, humbled him (something they probably found both fascinating and funny). They would have also heard about the king’s resulting decree honoring the Hebrew God (Dan 3:29). It’s also likely they heard of Yahweh’s further humbling of Nebuchadnezzar during his 7-year vegetarian hiatus from reigning, and his gospel proclamation that followed (Dan 4:34-36). Darius was 62 when they captured Babylon, so he likely heard these stories growing up and was fascinated by Daniel and his friends. I believe he and his general Cyrus realized that these four Hebrews, including Daniel, were servants of the most powerful God, the very One who had humbled their rival (and later opened the doors for their military victory), and they sought to ensure Yahweh and His servants were now on their side.
