We share our authentic experience of life on wheels in one of the world's hottest environments. If you're a fellow traveler, adventure enthusiast, or simply curious about life on the road, don't miss out on this heatwave survival journey through the heart of the Outback and into the unique and fascinating town of Coober Pedy, where the people live underground to escape the temperatures. Drawn to the area for Opal Mining it has a wild west feeling, but the people have hearts of gold (or opal :P) We ultimately cannot stay safe in the van at such high temps and seek refuge in one of the dug out (cave like) rooms. Learn from our mistakes as you see the challenges of Van Life in Coober Pedy in the Aussie summer.

⤈ WHO WE ARE ⤈
We are Philly and Keely and we live full time in our tiny home on wheels Martha. After building our DIY home in a Citroen Relay camper we spent a year living on the streets of London before quitting our jobs only to be met with lockdown. Then we took our van further than she had ever been before to the very beautiful Turkey. Enroute, we stopped off in Spain for a few weeks where we experienced every van lifers worst nightmare, we were robbed and they stole all valuables in our van. But then we were back on our feet, fully MOT'd and back on the road through Europe before we experienced another vanlife nightmare... our van caught fire!! After the trauma of that we had a massive change of plan and made our way to Japan. We enjoyed a three-month Japanese Adventure and then got back to Martha for some new European Adventures. After an incredible three-month Scottish road trip, we have now packed up our van and are heading to Australia for a new van life adventure!

I genuinely get excited every Sunday to watch your new video. Thank you so much for sharing! Also, having lived in a van in Florida in the summer with no AC (only 38°C but 98% humidity 😬) made these last few videos very relatable. You guys are champs and I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that the temps stay cooler for the duration of your trip. Thanks for the laughs and positive vibes!

Hi guys, Really enjoying your vid. My wife and I have travelled all over Australia over 25 years plus and never had any trouble with road trains and if you go into the mining areas of WA the're a LOT longer. As far as travelling in the outback, the tourist season is from April to about 1st week in September. Only the locals and travellers just as yourselves travel at the other times. During the tourist season you'd be lucky to get into a Coober Pedy caravan park it's that busy.

Great video as always guys, so many memories for me there. The campsite of dirt you stayed at was where I had an argument with the owner, him telling me that we were in a camper van, not a camper trailer. We got charged less for 2 nights as he was convinced that the thing we were towing and living in was not smaller than just a little van. Heat had got to old mate methinks!

Awwww. You would have gone pass Woomera. Wife, 3 daughters and I lived there for 4 years 1984 - 88. I worked in security of the Rocket range there. One Christmas we had 9 days straight over 45c ..... and it didn't seem that hot at the time. The small fires along side of the road is what is called fire stick farming. its to keep the combustible grasses down to prevent a major bush fire. also some plants need fire to bust open the pods to release the seeds for regeneration. the burning is normally done and controlled by council workers namely Aboriginal workers.

Great vid guys, Coober Pedy is on my bucket list for 2024, I can't wait! Tip for your back door, look at getting a Tailgate Standoff lock, means you can safely have it open a crack at night for ventilation and also run leads through the back without worrying about the door closing and cutting it. Safe travels 🙂

That's normal there. You need to stay indoors in the cool keep your fluids up and chill. The heatwave talk is rubbish. It's like that during summer have experienced it myself when living there. When i moved to Uluru i had a white dressing gown, when i left it was the colour of the dirt as i used to dry it outside 😂 Tis why it's more popular during winter. I feel for you guys, we are used to it and just blast our aircons and stay indoors

Holy shikees!! I always have to check the temp conversion. But that's frickin hot!! 116F!!! Crazy!!! Loved the sped up hot montage. And yes, yes Keely, you are on the surface of the sun. And boulder opals!!! They're crazy beautiful. I'm a crystal fan (hoarder) and boulder opals are soooo gorgeous. I was reading about them not long ago and thought "maybe I should mention them to Keely and Philly. Naw they won't be interested." And viola!! Mine tour! Yeah!!! Fun adventures even in the heat! Nice quiet video. No unalived solar panels! Only one little broken dingo light 💡👍🏼!! I loved seeing the Opal mine. Opals are so beautiful!! Is that still a working mine? That underground hotel was sooo cool (literally). I wish you could have stayed there two nights but I was glad to hear the weather had broken when you left. You are two brave souls enduring that heat! It gets that hot here in the summer which is quite depressing but I have central air in my house so I don’t have to endure it like you did 🥵!! I can’t wait to see where you take us next week. Safe travels from Southern California 🌴

Ahhhh look at you two sneakies, you went underground hahahaa! Good bloody choice that. I am alike you guys, dark dark rooms are blissful when you absolutely need sleep, they suck you in, i call them Vampire days! It's incredible how these areas that don't have anything to look at, 2 hour drive feels like half a damn day of driving. I have felt that type of heat, and its beyond debilitating and absolutely draining. Fires in the NT are part of the normal land regeneration and left to burn out, it happens alot, and I saw plenty heading into Kakadu National Park, it is alarming when you aren't aware of it. Glad you survived, kept your humor and danced in the rain. Ranger loveheart Keely. The names growing... Yo da bes guys!

We used to visit a great wee coffee shop in Glenarm ,run by a lovely lady called Samantha. Unfortunately she decided to close it just before Christmas. We didn’t get the chance to get a last visit before she closed but just before Christmas we ended up at IKEA having a coffee when Samantha and a friend walked past. We stopped by her table to wish her all the best for the future and ended up chatting to her and her friend who had driven up from Portadown/Lurgan to join her for coffee. Her friend ( sorry cannot remember name) was home from travelling Australia with her husband and young family in a motorhome. I then suggested she watch this great KZbin channel about 2 ejits who have built their own camper van (again) and are currently traveling in Aus. She thought a second and then said I know who you are talking about - Philly is the son of my Pastor at my church. 😜. Now wind forward to the new year and last week. Unfortunately I had a funeral to attend in Lurgan and guess which church it was at and who was the pastor taking the service. And now you know 😊.
