For this month's Character In Action award, we are celebrating HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) at New Hanover High School. Through the leadership of Allied Health teacher Christina Smolick, the students in this organization prepared packages for cancer patients at Novant Health Zimmer Cancer Institute. One of the HOSA officers, Taylor Lazzaro, was inspired by her grandmother, a recent cancer survivor, to start this project and gain the materials to make it possible. In New Hanover County Schools, we celebrate the students, staff and volunteers who demonstrate the character that makes our schools positive, safe and respectful.
