I feel that a misconception is that Tartaglia is a crazy killer, because he seems to actually AVOID unnecessary killing and was hesitant to summon Osial as he said (paraphrasing) that he hated to drag in innocents with no way to defend themselves into his plan and potentially cause them hurt (also, he specifically states that he doesn’t use lethal force on his subordinates) He DOES (probably) kill, like in his character teaser, but he doesn’t enjoy it. He’s obsessed with fighting, not killing or causing pain

Yeah, he may not just kill any random person for the sake of bloodshed, but the man is still an absolute menace (unrealistic as it may be, I like to think Childe will be done for if Yanfei ever goes after him and I live for that)

So in short... Xiao doesn't hate people, he's just social distancing. Best friends are best at dunking each other. Zhongli's old not stupid. Tricksters aren't chaotic. Aesthetic and function are seperate. Genshin players don't know what subtext is. As for the misconception I hate, Sara is not unhealthy obsessed with the Shogun, her "simping" is the closest we can get to an Otaku. (Cuz it's Japan.) Oh and Itto isn't an idiot, he's just oblivious.

Sara's "simping" for Raiden Shogun ISN'T actually her being the game's resident otaku (Xingqiu might be the closest example, Professional Wuxia Fanboy that he is): she believes that the Electro Archon saved her life after she fell from her mountain & her wings were damaged. Sara is, technically, a disabled tengu (a wind glider is thusly a mobility aid to her): the damage to her wings made her unable to continue her existence as a mountain's protector, thus Sara's awaking from the incident alive & with a vision seemed to be Divine Protection. This belief was strengthened by Sara's almost immediately being found by the Kujou Clan's Head, who adopted her & so "gifted" her a second chance at life, as a member of the Tenryou Commission. ofc, Tengu are strongly associated with Misfortune & the Kujou Head's true nature was revealed during Inazuma's archon quest: further insight to Sara's life, from her stories, reveal that she was greatly taken advantage of due to her misplaced sense of dept & gratitude towards her adoptive father: he ke pt he r is olated & almost immediately set her to work as a [child?] soldier. After the Reveal of his nature, the last of Sara's faith belongs solely to her god & shogun. Sara is a very lonely character who I hope, in her future Hangout, will get to befriend Kokomi & Gurou (she greatly admires both), Yoimiya, maybe even a continuation of her friendly rivalry with Itto. (fingers crossed Sara gets a hangout event alongside Heizou when he's released, like Ningguang got with Yunjin's!)

Pre-ordering figurines and having pride in her collecrion and the corrections she made are very observable in Otakus. Heck her disdain for scalpers is a reference in it of itself I'm not saying that's there's anything wrong with that, you can have that kind of representaion while having a tragic reason as to why. I'm not dismissing her backstory just pointing out her mannerisms as a reference to Otaku culture.

In Japan, most households have dedicated shrines with a portrait or photo of deceased family that they leave regular offerings of incense, flowers, fruit &/or favourite foods for: Kujou Sara seems the type to give her daily respects to such a shrine, if not to all 5 statues, though her morning greetings are probably Very Tragic to behold. Sara likely greets her Shogun everyday, voicing her intentions and hopes for the day then recounting her results upon returning home: she confides in statues of her Shogun because of her Faith... and because she has no people in her life who would actually ask her how her day was, not until meeting The Traveler. i'm not personally religious but i respect those who are; i'm not quite an otaku (i'm so f2p i make my own "merch" from ancient, unused gifts from family) but i AM very much a "geek". I remember going through Liyue in that village to the north and a little girl said a guy beat up some hilichurls and got her doll back for her. Its a lil shocking how ppl say Xiao hates mortals. He loves them, however he deals with his own stuff and I personally think its made him cold and unable to open up. I dont even think he knows HOW to. Yakusha were sent there to do a job, reguardless of how they feel about it, or the impact of it on their mental/emotional state. However, there are certain moments u can see the care and love Xiao has for others shining through.

Xiao knows that he carries a lot of karma from centuries of slaughter, and he simply doesnt want any mortals to get affected by it, thats why he seem so distant, but I think he do want to interact with mortals even a tiny bit, and seeing how the traveler doesnt seem to be affected by his Karma, he lets her/him get a little closer to him, not just by curiosity but the thought that, other than the archons and the adepti, someone can be there for him, and feel a little less lonely, so yeah, Xiao is just simply looking after mortals by not getting them affected by his Karma despite him probably wanting companionship

Thank you for clearing the miscoception of Xiao's character. Another people tend to forget that Xiao used to be abused and forced to kill during his time as huntdog of the God of Dreams / evil god. Despite being not human, such treatment can cause a lot of emotional scars, and for Xiao is easy to be treated as a tool to keep a respectful distance. Another miscopception about Zhongli being dense. It something that I noticed on a lot of fanfictions. It would say that they guy have low emotional IQ and still grasping the concepts of human's life, but he can be quite sensible of people's emotions. He still learning. Ningguang is not Ghuizhong's reincarnation. She is her own person. Aratiko Itto may be himbo. But it's no complety stupid. He can he quite sharp on his own way. For example the whole Takuya's Blue Oni and his self-victimization of sacrifice --- Itto didn't hesitate to call out nonsense to him for using such excuses to paint himself os the villain of the story.

I just did Xiao's story quest and it was so good - Wish we had more!! I'm definitely reading up on his story! When you 1st meet him he comes off as cold(well at least to me), but once you know why + literally everything after that is him being so wise and calm, even if distant. I'm rly impressed w/the way he handles things through his pain, and he doesn't deserve to be written off as "edgy". Also when I 1st met Itto, I'd already heard all the "dumb" jokes, but it didn't come across to me when I did the story quest and was shocked. Fine he's over enthusiastic about things and is rash, but as you said, literally the Takuya stuff, he was so quick thinking and responsible and deserves more credit!!

Imma hit you up with an Inazuma one already. "kazuha hates the shogun and wants her to apologize" I hate this misconception because it undermines the sacrifices and honor by those who died. First, Tomo died in an honorable battle before the throne. Tomo didn't even fight the shogun. He fought Sara. Going back to honor and battles, wanting revenge or something similar undermines the resolve that VOLUNTARY warriors and soldiers make when they decide to go to war. When you decide to get into a fight, you steel your resolve knowing what you fight for is worth your death. When you try to get revenge for someone who volunteered for something like that, it's like saying what they risked their lives for wasn't worth it. Of course, involuntary fights are different, but in Kazuha's case, he and Tomo fought on their own choice.

I think that a big part of why people misconcept xiao this way is the voice direction of his character in english, not hate to the va, she did an amazing job with what she was given, but the general tone the director choose does not match xiao's personality at all, in every other dub he sounds detached but soft while in the english one he sounds angry (and always on edge)

I say it fits in the English-speaker way. There are cultural differences with how people deal with their traumas and individual issues. Most people from Asia have stigmas against acknowledging mental illnesses or problems that aren't physically taxing so you'd notice that from how they carry themselves through their voice and general demeanor to hide that pain. Most people from the west, Americans and Europeans have similar stigmas but they're less composed with attempts to disguise it, hence why they're more known for their outbursts and general anger issues being more obvious. I think the voice castings are meant to appeal to different majorities based of the language being dubbed so it's easier for people of said language to understand the character's demeanor through their vocals alone. Of course this is a gross overgeneralization of everything but this is my guess on what the ENG casters of Hoyoverse tried to convey with what info they could get from the original base's vision of him.

Me, a Xiao main: finally somebody said it. Xiao is a really complex character. He is very serious but underneath is a kind person who loves and wants to protect mortals. In some of his voice lines and character stories, you get glimpses of innocence and softness. He wants to dance in his mask instead of killing things, but he ignores his desires because he puts his duty first. So I hate the slander of him being edgy. He is a very soft person underneath all that trauma. The English va is incredibly talented, but it really undermines his character. It's much too harsh. He has a very soft voice in other languages that I think fits the character much better.

IMMORTALS Another one I don't like is not really the misconception, but the misunderstanding of immortals. I think people have a hard time understanding immortal characters because they do not (mostly) necessarily act for the sake of humanity, and it's usually just humanity lining up with their principles. I think a perfect example of this is Yae Miko. Miko acts on what affects her in the long run, and that's perfectly reasonable as an immortal, yet many people can't understand it and call her mean for not acting on the possession problem. She said it herself that the spirits were just going to make the people sick for a few weeks, but overall their skills would've improved. Sure, for us humans that sounds like a long time to be sick, but for an immortal, that's a drop in a bucket. Another thing is that humans by nature are inconsistent and always changing in the face of eternity. Maybe some summers ago, a clan vowed to serve you, but now they could just be someone treacherous. Clans rise and fall, there's different people with different principles who come into power every now and then. For someone like Zhongli, you might as well just enjoy the passage of time, and embrace change. For Venti, you might not care how you're viewed by people because you know in a short while, there'll be completely new people to fill in their shoes. Maybe you're like Miko who chose to instead focus on her shrine and publishing house as a way to pass time. The lack of action done by most immortal characters is not because they're evil, but it's because it so much more interesting to let things unfold rather than shape the future to your will for the rest of existence. In a way, letting things unfold is giving the freedom for humans to make their own response, make their own concepts, and make their own culture. Even Zhongli only stepped down to lead his people once every year during the Rite of Descension. Maybe you should talk about immortality, Aster.

oh i love this ngl i used to dislike ei's character a lot because i thought hoyo had written her off as plain stupid for allowing the vision hunt degree and the whole resistance thing to happen. took a while, the first story quest did not really help me see the depth of her character as an immortal figure, but after the second story quest i began seeing the actual reasons behind her motivations to do all she did. as an immortal who literally lost everyone around her and didnt have the same understanding of eternity as makoto, who sees the short moments and ever changing humans as eternal, her character and character development make much more sense if you accept the fact time flows much, much more differently than for mortals sorry, this may not have had much to do with your comment but i was reminded of my thoughts on ei as an immortal / archon when reading it xD

Tartaglia is literally a red herring in that quest. The entire time the player is like "You can't subvert my expectations" and tartaglia is just like "I know, but they can". Points to Zhongli and signora. Tartaglia's character in that quest is important as he is the only driving force in the foreground for the entire story. The real twist isn't the fact he's the one behind all this, but it's the fact that he's not the one behind all this.

I love Xiao, and after playing his story quest and all the focus on the Yakshas recently, it's hard to view him as really overly edgy and emo. All I want to do is give this Yaksha a hug, Karmic Debt or not. I'm so glad that the Traveler (in my case Lumine), is there to give comfort to him. I love the three regions we currently have, and the characters are great. Looking forward Sumeru, and to your interpretation of Inazuma!

I think part of what really pushes that picture that a lot of people have of Xiao is the voice acting. I listen to the JP so my interpretation of Xiao is exactly what Aster described. The ENG however feels more like it leaned into the more "edgy" side of Xiao and the way certain lines are delivered, it does come off as if Xiao just hates humanity when that's obviously not the case.

I think Xiao's way of helping humans isn't in the norm like others. More like Batman in a sense. He'll work undetected so things can go more smoothly. I'm not even a lore guy buy I know most of these misconceptions are just silly and untrue lol - Xiao hate mortals : if he hate them so much, why is he staying at the inn ( forgot the name) when other adeptus choose to stay at the mountains away from mortals? Also yeah he is cursed so he could harm mortals unintentionally - chongyun and xingqui is abusive : have u ever had any best friend in your life at all? Pranking each other is what best friends do lol - zhongli is broke : well tbh most people know that he isn't and this is just meme. He is actually a reputable consultant which is expensive to hire or have a session with - Gouba is not the same as Oz: OK tbh if you missed the event, this one can be confusing and people can mistake it. But I always knew Gouba is at least an animal, like a biological animal not vision produced one because he isn't made from pure energy like bake kurage of kokomi or fischl's Oz. This misconception probably comes from people thinking charming man = playboy, when that honestly isn't even what a playboy is. Like, sure, you need to have at least some charm to be considered a playboy, but just having that charm doesn't automatically make you one. It's the same situation with Kaeya tbh.

I also wondered if it would have lasting effects. Because of Xiao's teapot lines about his karmic debt pain being more bearable, though he doesn't know if it's because of the Traveler or not, I believe they would just have to be around him occasionally. Stay on Teyvat forever and not travel to the next world once the traveler has their sibling back, unless his karmic debt could somehow be permanently purified...but I doubt if it could be unless all the demons and corruption Xiao fights is permanently purged.

The game likes to sprinkle in obvious twists to mislead people from the actual twist. For example Zhongli was very obviously the archon from the beginning it's giving his gnosis to the Fatui that was the real twist. And Albedo obviously had an imposter(immediately spoiled in the trailer), there being 3 of them was the real twist. Zhongli is that person who has a really good salary but they spend it all in one place Hu Tao just doesn't have a filter for what she says but she's genuinely responsible Xinyan has so many layers but because not a lot of people use her tee community thinks she's shallow. I remember a friend who got so angry because they thought she was an SJW character. She's just been stereotypically judged for her punk appearance in lore and that's it.

I love Tartaglia deeply and immensely, but everyone saying he's good with kids is wrong. I think he deeply loves his siblings and strongly desires their happiness, and really genuinely does want to be admired by them. But he goes about it in such a dangerous and convoluted way. My boy is a walking disaster and should not be entrusted with children. Also it's kinda funny that people think Xiao hates mortals, seeing as he's the only adeptus (ignoring Ganyu and Yanfei) to live around mortals. The Wanshu Inn was built to support Xiao's demon-slaying efforts, yes, but he still chooses to live pretty close to Liyue Harbor, while Cloud Retainer and the other adepti all live in Jueyun Karst, which most people avoid going into. I also don't care for the misconception that Ningguang's first priority is mora and materialism. She treasures the Jade Chamber, but when it became apparent the Adepti couldn't stop Osial on their own, sacrificing the Jade Chamber was not just her first suggestion, but the first suggestion anyone in the cutscene gave. She can clearly be cutthroat and highly ambitious, but she puts Liyue's people first, always. Admittedly, I have seen this take less since her hangout came out, at least.

A misconception I see(not as common but I still see it) Also spoilers for Inazuma's last archon quest The shogun was the one who duelled Kazuha's friend: The shogun didn't defeat Kazuha's friend in a duel, Sara did. Raiden just finished him. Just like Signora, the traveller and Signora had a life or death duel in front of the Shogun, The traveller won, so the Shogun finished her. Also, another one is that Venti's old bard friend's original name was Venti: It was never once said what the Nameless Bard's name was, nor was it ever implied. You could say that because Venti said that his situation and Hans (Fake Stanley) were similar, it means that like Hans Venti took on the nameless bards name, but similar is not the same and it is only ever said Venti took on his friend's likeness and most likely the role of a bard. Besides Venti means wind, Its a very Venti move that he would go with a cover name that alludes to the fact that he is the god of wind. Also, there is a lot about Sara about how she's just a simp, my say on that is that she's very devoted to her god, like how to say a Christian is to their god. You probably wouldn't consider devote Christians as Jesus simps. I have a lot of problems with how Sara is treated in the fandom(mostly how most of the fandom uses her as ONLY shipping material) and in the main story( the way she's presented in a kinda antagonistic role which causes the fans to assume stuff without looking deeper like I've seen some portray her as going along and agreeing with the vision hunt when I actuality she didn't enjoy it and deeply regrets the things she had done), but that's mostly an opinion and less of misconceptions. (also because I'm lazy and this is dragging on too long for my tastes knowing that no one will probably see this)

A misconception I know of is that Zhongli doesn't care about Xiao. On the contrary, his voiceline about Xiao shows that he cares. The medicine he gives is to help Xiao. Another one is that Zhongli and Xiao have a father son relationship. I am aware this is a headcanon people have, but it is pushed a lot and some people comment on fanart including the two of them with it as if it were canon. The two have more of a master servant role, but Zhongli is someone that Xiao really looks up to. He has a voiceline in which he tells the traveler not to insult Morax.

I think the character misconceptions sometimes are brought about by the voice acting and localization of the story dialogues... The CN, JP, and KR voices of xiao is always calm and longing, and a bit tsundere-ish. The EN voice of Xiao is on the edgy and angry side most of the time in terms of expressing his lines and not knowing his background or pieces of his lore will add to it. (My biggest example is this cousin of mine, who continues to judge and critic my anemo boys while also admitting he doesn't read their lore or doesn't know about them lore-wise. In Childe's case, he may have a bit of knowledge of his lore, but empathy-wise, he doesn't like him, so he doesn't feel the need to be understanding of his character, making his grey morality just plain black to him.)

For Inazuman characters I think there's a slight misconception that Sayu is lazy. Being lazy means not doing work and being happy about it. To Sayu, her job is to grow up faster so she can do her work better and its why she sleeps frequently. She's diligent with her tasks and is cited to be reliable when it really counts despite her lethargic condition due to excessive sleep. Far from someone who's actually lazy who usually shirk responsibilities for their own comfort. I think the same misconception of Shenhe with Kokomi can be applied. She's a very important figure on Watatsumi and doesn't have many who's her equal in terms of status so the Traveler's companionship is a nice change. Pretty sure she'd be just as happy to be close with Beidou and Kazuha when their around. The same can't be said for Ayaka, girl is definitely crushing on the traveler whether she realizes it or not. Her teapot lines do not lie. Ei has countless misconceptions someone already made a video about it.

the reason i still joke that Zhongli is broke is because he puts things on the parlor's tab and the assistant is actively trying to hide the expenses in the books. he's not making a record to have it on his tab specifically, and if the assistant hides it, then Hu Tao can't go in and correct it by taking it out of his paycheck. glad to see Xiao being acknowledged for the 2000+ year old he is and not just some angsty teen. he's also been through so much trauma, so more reason to try and keep away from others, despite clearly caring for them and being kind hearted. bonus: qiqi's memory is bad but after a while she managed to get herself to remember that hu tao was a danger. so even though the latter isn't trying to lay her to rest anymore, she still is afraid of her.

Maybe Xiao's misconception comes partially from his english voice acting that seems edgy and rude with eveybody, he comes more as indifferent in the other languages.
