Biblical authors often referenced and quoted their favorite parts of Scripture, and the list of God's character traits found in Exodus 34:6-7 is the most repeated and re-quoted text in the Bible. In this video, we'll explore this foundational description of God's attributes that illustrates what God values and why he acts the way he does.

I often reccomend them to atheists who seem fuzzy about Christianity, or the nature of God. Most recent is the case where some claimed that God is magic. So that means that it's stupid to believe in him, because he is magical. Which is Circular Reasoning. Because they're essentially saying that God, the creator of all, uses magic to accomplish the creation of the world... which would then have to contain magic for God to do anything... and since he couldn't have Created anything without magic, because he didn't have magic in the beginning, he can't exist because magic doesn't exist. Or something like that.

God is bigger than magic... God is bigger than the imagination of man.... God is God....May His name be glorified forever.....We Christians are not foolish for praying and believing in God... and we must keep praying and believing and also being righteous in our ways
@Paulthored

@@newlife9118 Well, yeah. That's about my point. God Created Creation. If he later wants to Temporarily flex his power & authority, in defiance of what is the normal status quo He Ordered into Creation, that's not magic. God doesn't need any help outside of his own Will, to do anything to Creation. It's like claiming Gravity is magic. Or light is magic. Only somewhat sillier.

If a father commits a crime and goes to prison, his son grows up without a father, which hurts the son. People can say "punishing children for the sins of their fathers is wrong" all they like, but it's literally how the universe works. Your actions have lasting consequences. Realising this has been a big step in understanding the character of God, especially in old testament context.

Did you know that Exodus 34:6-7 is one of the most quoted passages in the entire Bible? The biblical authors reference this list of God’s character traits throughout much of Scripture. But why? In these verses, we learn that all of God’s actions are an expression of these attributes: compassion, grace, patience, loyal love, and faithfulness. But how do these traits relate to God’s passion for justice? Sometimes God brings severe consequences in response to human evil. How does God’s mercy and love balance with his anger at destructive human behavior? These are crucial questions that the biblical authors love to explore in narrative, poetry, and in the literary design of this Exodus passage. The passage tells us that God’s core character traits are rooted in generous mercy and loyal love, which means that God’s anger is not a primary attribute. It’s a divine reaction to selfish and destructive human decisions, and it’s rooted in God’s love. Just like you would get angry if you saw a beautiful work of art being vandalized, so God’s anger is a response to evil done to or by his human images. God would not be good if he didn’t get angry at evil. So God’s anger and judgment is a really important theme in the Bible, but it’s not the whole story. God’s core character is one of generous love that created the world as we know it and plans to rescue and restore that world from human evil. Exodus 34:6-7 invites us into a lifetime of pondering the depths and mysteries of the character of God. Click here to explore more resources on the Character of God: tbp.xyz/cog

I have finished the work which You have given Me to do. 5 And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was. 6 “I have manifested "YOUR NAME" to the men whom You have given Me out of the world. They were YOURS, You HAVE THEM TO ME, and they have kept Your word(The Truth). 7 Now they have known that all things which YOU HAVE GIVEN ME are from You. 8 For I have given to them the words which YOU have given Me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came forth FROM YOU; and they have believed that YOU sent Me!.

The gospel by which we're SAVED. We're under Paul's ministry today. Therefore we're not under the law of the old testament. 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 (KJV)(1) Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the GOSPEL (good news) which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; (2) By which also ye are SAVED, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain (self). (3) For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that CHRIST DIED for our SINS according to the scriptures; (4) And that he was BURIED, and that he ROSE AGAIN the THIRD DAY according to the scriptures. And that takes us back to John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH in him should NOT PERISH, but have EVERLASTING LIFE. Ephesians 2:8-9 (KJV) (8) For by GRACE are ye SAVED through FAITH; and that NOT of yourselves: it is the GIFT of GOD: (9) NOT of works, lest any man should boast. So it's only by GRACE that we are SAVED not by works. JESUS did all the work and gave us GRACE (unmerited favor) as long as we have FAITH (believe) in the DEATH, BURIAL, and RESURRECTION of Jesus Christ for SALVATION (trust in his BLOOD ATONEMENT). That's the gospel. JESUS said, Ye must be BORN AGAIN to enter into the kingdom.(accept Jesus as your SAVIOUR) READ, UNDERSTAND, BELIEVE (from the heart by FAITH) and be SAVED

Would anyone like to share their thoughts on punishing the children for the sins of the father? I don't know if it was the way it was translated, because in the Bible we don't see people judged for their parents mistakes. Solomon was wise and successful in spite of David's sin, and he only fell when he fell into sin by his own choices. The only example where I can think of this being true is the hereditary sin brought into the world by Adam and Eve. I don't think it's fair to punish children for the sins of their parents and clearly neither does God, as we don't see such in the Bible. What then, does that passage mean?

Glad you’re doing a series on this. I’m trying to read the Bible from beginning to end and I got through Exodus a few weeks ago. It was unsettling to read about God “suddenly changing His mind” about the Israelites after they made the golden calf, and Moses having to plead with God to spare them. I know there is an explanation where God is not as capricious as He seems, but from our modern Western perspective it just looks like He’s being volatile. I hope there’s a good explanation that ancient readers would have understood.

In the bible the heifer represents God .The goat represents the angelic free moral agents and the sheep represent the flesh and blood free moral agents .All free moral agents be they angels or flesh and blood like us are required to live within the constraints of the ten commandments .That is why sometimes in the bible gosts and sheep are interchangeable . We are to set our hearts on doing this for that is what God has determined is necessary for a functioning society .If we find it difficult to do them ,we are to seek grace from God ,who will help us to remain obedient. So the golden calf what was that .The Gospel says that gold is faith tried in the fire. It also says that God is faithful. God has given us a physical body made from the dust of the earth. The breath that He would breath into us is the requirement that we must self govern the ten commandments in our life for this is the life that he is offering If we display with our life record until death that we are willing to submit to the ten commandments then we are raised in the first resurrection to be citizens on the earth made new . Obviously there are people in this world who live wholesome lives for whom God has no relevance .These people celebrate the attributes of the flesh and blood body we are given along with the environment which is where we live .All those things are provided by God as He awaits for us to acknowledge his ten commandment requirement. This awaiting depicts God faithful Providence . The Golden calf worship is living without ten commandments acknowledgements . The reason that 3000 were slain.... The 3 refers to the time still ahead of us when God through the ministry of the 144000 attested to by miracles presents that requirement to the world and is the third angel mentioned in Revelation 14:9 after which God closes the opportunity to change your mind just as with the 3000 whose decision led to death. Jesus said my " sheep" hear my voice. Also Jesus separates them into sheep and goats. Why goats ? If you do not have the ten commandments written on your heart as a shield against the fiery darts of the wicked ones (fallen angels ),you become like one of them ( a goat) . The ten commandments on the heart will remind you to seek grace from God to overcome those firery darts.

Spencer Gage I was reading through Exodus one time and came to 4:24 and was shocked and confused. Somehow I hadn’t really read this before? Anyway I was also listening to the Naked Bible Podcast and was so helped by this verse by verse explanation in context of the bigger picture. Read this and see if you have the same experience. My mind has been so transformed through the pages of scripture and God has become the multifaceted gemstone that Tim sometimes describes. In different light we see various aspects of his character. We are the ones who are changing. He is steadfast and enduring. Amazing grace!

@BibleProject It was mentioned towards the end of the video that God faces a challenge between showing compassion and upholding justice. I disagree and believe that He does not face any challenge whatsoever in any way and it's just that we're perceiving it that way for God knows the beginning from the end and hence everything is perfectly planned by him. Do you agree?

Exodus 15:13 The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name. Matthew 10:34 (Jesus Speaking) Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. Deuteronomy 7:6 For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth. Malachi 1:4 Whereas Edom saith, We are impoverished, but we will return and build the desolate places; thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall call them, The border of wickedness, and, The people against whom the LORD hath indignation for ever. Revelation 2:26-28 (jesus speaking) And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations: And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father. Revelation 19:11-16 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS Isaiah 14:1 For the LORD will have mercy on Jacob, and will yet choose Israel, and set them in their own land: and the strangers shall be joined with them, and they shall cleave to the house of Jacob and the people shall take them, and bring them to their place: and the house of Israel shall possess them in the land of the LORD for servants and handmaids: and they shall take them captives, whose captives they were; and they shall rule over their oppressors. Psalms 149:7 Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two edged sword in their hand; To execute vengeance upon the heathen, and punishments upon the people; To bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron; To execute upon them the judgment written: this honor have all his saints. Praise ye the LORD. Joel 2:27 And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the LORD your God, and none else: and my people shall never be ashamed.

God's name isn't *"Yahweh"* No one actually knows the correct pronunciation of God's name, because what was originally written as God's name was *"YHWH"* We can't just add vowels, and as Christians we must follow what God said that we should not add NOR remove any from the Scriptures. So it would be better if God's name would be visually presented as *"YHWH"* instead.

I am fine with being judged for my own actions. But, the idea that I may just be born into a life of punishment, because God has willed it on me for something my Grandfather did, is too painful. If I was born, already despised by God, could I ask forgiveness for something I didn't do? Can I ask for forgiveness of my ancestors?

There is a story about King Josiah, that his father and grandfather worshiped other gods and sinned against the God of Israel, but King Josiah chose to obey God and he was blessed by Him. So it all depends on whether you let God be a part of of your life, because He can also bless those who love Him, no matter who their ancestors were. "Know, therefore, that the Lord your God, he is God, the faithful God, who keeps covenant and mercy with those who love him and keep his commandments for a thousand generations"; Deuteronomy 7: 9 KVJ (sorry for my English, I'm Brazilian)
