the beginning: In the Scriptures, the meaning of the term “beginning” depends on the context. Here the Greek word ar·khe cannot refer to “the beginning” of God the Creator, for he is eternal, having no beginning. (Ps 90:2) It must, therefore, refer to the time when God be- gan creating. God’s first creation was termed the Word, a heavenly designa- tion of the one who became Jesus. (Joh 1:14-17) So Jesus is the only one who can rightly be called “the firstborn of all creation.” (Col 1:15) He was “the begin- ning of the creation by God” (Re 3:14), so he existed before other spirit creatures and the physical universe were created. In fact, by means of Jesus, “all other things were created in the heavens and on the earth.”-Col 1:16; for other exam- ples of how the term “beginning” is used, see study note on Joh 6:64. the Word: Or “the Logos.” Greek, ho logos. Here used as a title, it is also used at Joh 1:14 and Re 19:13. John identified the one to whom this title belongs, name- ly, Jesus. This title was applied to Jesus during his prehuman existence as a spir- it creature, during his ministry on earth as a perfect man, and after his exaltation to heaven. Jesus was God’s Word of com- munication, or Spokesman, for conveying information and instructions to the Cre- ator’s other spirit sons and to humans. So it is reasonable to think that prior to Jesus’ coming to earth, Jehovah on many occasions communicated with mankind through the Word, His angelic mouth- piece.-Ge 16:7-11; 22:11; 31:11; Ex 3:2-5; Jg 2:1-4; 6:11, 12; 13:3. with: Lit., “toward.” In this context, the Greek preposition pros implies close prox- imity and fellowship. It also indicates separate persons, in this case, the Word and the only true God. the Word was a god: Or “the Word was divine [or, “a godlike one”].” This state- ment by John describes a quality or characteristic of “the Word” (Greek, ho logos; see study note on the Word in this verse), that is, Jesus Christ. The Word’s preeminent position as the firstborn Son of God through whom God created all other things is a basis for describing him as “a god; a godlike one; divine; a divine being.” Many translators favor the ren- dering “the Word was God,” equating him with God Almighty. However, there are good reasons for saying that John did not mean that “the Word” was the same as Almighty God. First, the preceding clause and the following clause both clearly state that “the Word” was “with God.” Also, the Greek word the·os occurs three times in verses 1 and 2. In the first and third occurrences, the·os is preceded by the definite article in Greek; in the second occurrence, there is no article. Many scholars agree that the absence of the definite article before the second the·os is significant. When the article is used in this context, the·os refers to God Almighty. On the other hand, the absence of the article in this grammati- cal construction makes the·os qualitative in meaning and describes a characteristic of “the Word.” Therefore, a number of Bi- ble translations in English, French, and German render the text in a way similar to the New World Translation, conveying the idea that “the Word” was “a god; divine; a divine being; of divine kind; godlike.” Supporting this view, ancient translations of John’s Gospel into the Sahidic and the Bohairic dialects of the Coptic lan- guage, probably produced in the third and fourth centuries C.E., handle the first occurrence of the·os at Joh 1:1 differently from the second occurrence. These ren- derings highlight a quality of “the Word,” that his nature was like that of God, but they do not equate him with his Father, the almighty God. In harmony with this verse, Col 2:9 describes Christ as having “all the fullness of the divine quality.” And according to 2Pe 1:4, even Christ’s joint heirs would “become sharers in divine na- ture.” Additionally, in the Septuagint translation, the Greek word the·os is the usual equivalent of the Hebrew words ren- dered “God,” el and elo·him, which are thought to convey the basic meaning “Mighty One; Strong One.” These Hebrew words are used with reference to the al- mighty God, other gods, and humans❤

The books that were written by who we call Homer were written around 800 BCE but described supposed events that were late Bronze Age time period. The times lineup perfectly. Let's consider the significance of speech. God could have nodded, or blinked, or motioned with his hand, but instead he is described as speaking. Words express the mind, will, and character of a person. Words reveal identity. We can observe much about a person based on what we see, but we can’t begin to know them personally until they speak to us. When God created the universe, he spoke it into existence. “The Word became flesh” (John 1:14). Creation begins with God speaking, and then a new creation begins when this speaking “Word” of God becomes a human being in the flesh, the living and active person of Jesus. As John says, “In him was life, and that life was the light of humanity” (John 1:4). To know God you must first become selfless "deny yourself" egoless or die to the self only then can the Holy Spirit of Truth enter into you. Then you will witness Truth and will despair for humanity who are not just blind to Truth humanity is dead to Truth. The "self" (ego) cannot experience Truth. All humanity must rise from death into Life to Live. This is the first death and resurrection. Churchianity continues to teach the Bible literally and so Christians never experience their bodies "full of light" (Life / resurrection) and they never see the Holy Spirit. Everyone has the Spirit of this world (ego). Only God's anointed receive the Spirit of Truth then humanity ridicules, mocks, despises and condemns them "believing they are doing God's will". The ego (all 7 billion) cannot be experience Truth. People really need to understand what it means to surrender the "self" to God. Really you must die to Live. Peace be with you. PS: Every word of the Bible is about YOU and no one else. It's your story. Your guide.

So, God had sex with himself and gave birth to himself so that he could become human and have himself killed to please himself as payment for Mankind's sins and so those who accept him are without sin. Did I get any of that right? I'm wondering how some deity can set everything up so that the deity becomes a person who's killed to make peace with the deity. Sounds pretty circular to me and it does not make sense no matter how much you apologized for it.
@eniolaelisery1503

@@jamesarnette1394 The reason it does not make sense to you is because you’re looking at the incarnation of God as Jesus Christ purely through a human, limited lens. In the Old Testament, God actually shows up on earth as man, both to Abraham and Jacob in Genesis, to Gideon and Manoah in Judges and in many other books. In the New Testament, God doesn’t just want to appear on earth as a man, but also live a full life as all human beings who ever existed does and so He chooses to be born through a woman. God does not procreate nor is He dependant upon a mate to create human beings, so when He chooses to enter creation as a human being Himself, He can do so as He pleases. The Mary was obedient to the Heavenly Father and gave birth to the body of His eternal Son by power of the Holy Spirit who is Lord and giver of Life.

Its funny, ok so John when he is writing his gospel, probably has some knowledge of the Holy Spirit as his gospel was penned late in the first century. So John when he says the Word was with God and God, he probably does have some thought of the H S as being divine too. Since he was around at Pentecost. , there is just so much to consider when examining John's gospel and I truly wish scripture spike more about the Holy Spirit.

@@ericday4505the holy Spirit is God dwelling in us. Jesus Christ is the fullness of God manifested in flesh. Aka, God dwelling in a human body to make himself known to us. Because he told Moses that no man can see him and live, that means his original form cannot be expressed to us on sinful earth. But the glorious thing is that he chooses to meet us as Jesus Christ, which is the name of God the father, the son and the holy Spirit (think of these as various offices occupied by the same God) like how a man can be Uncle, Brother, Father.

if you look at the gospel of John in a historical context it would actually be one of the worst genealogies of Jesus and the gospel of mark would be the best due to mark being written around 30 years after Jesus death which means mark can recall directly what Jesus did however John was told through oral tradition and was written around 90-110 AD and mark and Luke are vastly different as it is highly possible that alot was lost through these hundred years of oral tradition

As GOD does exist,is tender, merciful, etc etc& you can of course talk to Him.And thats the the Best&Easiest way to proceed. You don't need any intermediaries or performances etc - & in fact even if well meaning cannot improve on a 1 :1 Relationship. His Agenda is to liberate you, inform you, look after you , defend you & ! introduce you to the Mighty Kingdom of Heaven where where all good things are ratified- & with EternalLife ( with a capital L! )amongst the 'fringe benefits' so to speak.!.."Out of sight, far from view, Beyond the reach of a Nightmare (=Fallen Earth ) come true" as has been said .However even this will be sorted too as/when the Lord sees fit since He created it-Immeasurably better than as now , Sin corroded as it presently is: He said the Meek shall Inherit the Earth( as well as the Kingdom!) so another 'plus'...Altho' He can talk to- Anyone(He did to thousands in Palestine as Gospels confirm) He tends to communicate pro tem even more directly[you will not - never- be neglected so attend to what happens when you Communicate!]Meantime 'Save the Planet 'sentiment continues to (wilfully!) ignore He Who Can!...

@Artur ok well you have a strong opinion. I disagree with you and there are many examples in the Bible that your words have power. I can obviously see John was showing us that our words can help us if they line up with what God stands for. You speak hate anger, jealousy, gossip. You bring darkness. Speak love, faith, hope, positive things you bring light. I also believe that we have the Holy Spirit in us and we do have the power to get rid of darkness. Jesus said truly if you have faith as big as a mustard seed you can truly tell a mountain to move and it will. I stand behind my comment and believe you are wrong. God bless

@@queen_sophie7515 The Bible goes into plenty of detail about the impact of words and what they reveal about our character. In that sense, Artur is right; you don’t need to theorize or say “I believe” because the Bible already talks about it in many places. Make a study of that topic! The concern Artur has is that part of what you’re saying sounds like Word of Faith teachings, which are heresy. There is a difference between human speech and how God speaks. God can bring things into existence because he is eternal; he fills all of time and space so when he speaks, his words also fill time and space. But we are mortal and finite. Our words live and die with us, and we can only speak about what God has already created. As fallen beings, our words no longer fully align with the truth either. Which is why we look to what God says in his Word rather than ourselves. Our words do matter and can help or hurt people in the way people perceive them, but they can’t alter reality or creation or time or space like God can. That’s a difference you will need to acknowledge if you don’t already.

Positive words, love in action, Wisdom can be shown conquering sin in many examples. My favorite. 1 Samuel 25:32-34 (KJV) 32 And David said to Abigail, Blessed [be] the LORD God of Israel, which sent thee this day to meet me: 33 And blessed [be] thy advice, and blessed [be] thou, which hast kept me this day from coming to [shed] blood, and from avenging myself with mine own hand. 34 For in very deed, [as] the LORD God of Israel liveth, which hath kept me back from hurting thee, except thou hadst hasted and come to meet me, surely there had not been left unto Nabal by the morning light any that pisseth against the wall. After Nabal’s death, David married the Wise Abigail. Her Love of Right conquered the wrath of man.

@@Window4503 Well I disagree. I believe our word bring positive or negative things in our lives. I believe that God is the Alpha and Omega the first and the last and I believe he is in our hearts. We do have the power to get rid of darkness in our lives. I have read the whole Bible and have studied it. Some things are known to others that are not understood by all. Sorry you can’t see what I am saying and that is very clearly laid out in the passage. Maybe one day God will open your eyes to the power we have in ourselves to help us and others. @Artur I don’t get what you disagree with? That our words call darkness or light? This passage that is in the video is about my comment. It is the example. I understand that sometimes God let’s you understand a verse deeper then just the surface. I understand that you don’t agree maybe you don’t understand because God thinks your not there spiritually yet. That why Jesus spoke in parables because some will understand but not all will. People read a verse and get 20 different teaching out of that one verse. Not one is wrong because it is a revelation from God. It just depends on how close to God you are. I am not here to debate what every verse is about. I believe one thing you believe another. Not everyone that reads the Bible comes to the same conclusion. That’s why there are so many religions out there on one Bible. I know in my heart what God is teaching me from this verse. You just have to understand what God is teaching you from this verse. There is no right and wrong as long as it is done with love. God bless

It essentially talking about the Davidic King who will one day defeat Babylon and her wicked offspring for good. Gives real Genesis 3:15 vibes - Serpent and his offspring verses the woman and her offspring. The offspring of the woman will crush the serpent.

@@beepbeepnj2658 I think you raise some good questions! Short answer, most didn't get the message. The testimony of the Bible is that Israel regularly rejected God and the message. The Bible also says that they needed a new heart, even as early as Deuteronomy. As for your other questions, I think inspiration is important in that people all are forced to interpret reality and their experiences. The Bible's authors were carried by the Spirit to give an accurate interpretation of reality. Just because something is truthful doesn't mean people will understand it or accept it. Overall, in my 2 decades as a Christian God has been a good Father and a reliable savior. I'd invite you to accept him as your Father and Savior too. He died for you, and he loves you.

Amos 5:7-8 O you who turn justice to wormwood and cast down righteousness to the earth! Seek him that maketh the seven stars and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night: that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The Lord is his name: Amos 5:10 They hate him who reproves in the gate, and they abhor him who speaks the truth. Amos 5:13-14 Therefore he who is prudent will keep silent in such a time, for it is an evil time. Seek good, and not evil, that you may live; and so the Lord, the God of hosts, will be with you, as you have said. Proverbs 5:1-8 My son, be attentive to my wisdom; incline your ear to my understanding, that you may keep discretion, and your lips may guard knowledge. For the lips of a forbidden woman drip honey, and her speech is smoother than oil, but in the end she is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword. Her feet go down to death; her steps follow the path to Sheol; she does not ponder the path of life; her ways wander, and she does not know it. And now, O sons, listen to me, and do not depart from the words of my mouth. Keep your way far from her, and do not go near the door of her house. Proverbs 5:20-23 Why should you be intoxicated, my son, with a forbidden woman and embrace the bosom of an adulteress? For a man's ways are before the eyes of the Lord, and he ponders all his paths. The iniquities of the wicked ensnare him, and he is held fast in the cords of his sin. He dies for lack of discipline, and because of his great folly he is led astray. Job 36:12 But if they do not listen, they perish by the sword and die without knowledge. Matthew 25:46 And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life. John 5:29 and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment. Daniel 12:2-3 And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. And those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the sky above; and those who turn many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever. Matthew 13:43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear. 🙏🏼

This might be the best explanation of the Trinity yet. Jesus is the Word of God 🙌🏻

But it doesn’t mention the Holy Spirit so no it’s not the best explanation because if that’s the case… then where did the Holy Spirit come from? If they can explain where Jesus and the Father came from surely they can explain where the Holy Spirit came from right?

That was beautiful guys! I have never thought of Johns dual ways of looking and defining Jesus as you have illustrated and talked about on your podcast. Thank You!!

Every time I read John 1:18 in Greek, I always translate the last phrase as "He has made [Him] known." I've never questioned why I had to insert the pronoun to complete the sentence, and neither have I thought that John intentionally left it incomplete. Thanks for this! This makes a whole lot of sense to me now.

Wow, haven't watched the video but what a beautiful moment of synchronicity gifted from God. My Youth just started learning about fasting yesterday. We are finally able to go back into Church this Sunday so we decided to Fast together until we meet again and break our fast at our after service morning tea. Each day of our fast we read a chapter of the book of John and here you've posted a video about the first chapter!! What a gift, thank you Bible Project ❤️ Love from Australia 🇦🇺

These videos literally are God answering my prayers to help me find learning tools and resources for my kids. My 11yo son thrives on videos that are taught exactly like this. Crisp clean speech, clean interface and style, I love how you clearly fact check, and Bible reference and explain and display the translations, the clean graphics and the art are not to flashy or over stimulating. I pray God use this to speak to and open my sons heart to You Lord. I just know and have faith this will be such an amazing tool for Gods glory. Thank you Lord for working in and with the people who used their talents to glorify Your name, Lord God in heaven. To help spread the word of Jesus our Savior.
