Yes they do. If you watched MGs video with Archangel the other day, he was a straight liar! I didn't believe a thing from AA! Because he had to be lying or Scopely is really just full of the dumbest MFers on the face of the earth and they really have NO CLUE about the greed and the community feelings, the players voice.. I'm sure some stuff is not planned like SOME of the mistakes (not all... some of those were definitely planned), but these types of changes aren't made by stupid people. This is all extremely pre meditated and they know exactly what they're doing.

I think they absolutely know what they are doing, they’ve spent the last 2+ years decreasing the value in release offers and events to allow them to once again make yellow stars valued with the death of red stars. This isn’t a snap decision, it’s a continuation of a long term approach.

5 year player here 81 million tcp, i don't even think i'd qualify for dolphin status, i had some streaks of purchasing the passes, or some character releases, but this just might be my final straw, opening 83 thanos orbs for 59 thanos shards is a gross feeling. no way to do the events without the characters, they mentioned that the monthly reward wont be locked behind a pay wall well i call bs....because you can't get the monthly reward without collecting all the items and one item last month had an event that required gladiator and i hadn't unlocked him yet...so i'm now out a monthly reward despite logging in everyday simply because i have bad luck at orb openings. its just all feels so slimy and gross and a cash grab.

Truthfully, it shouldn't be a "might be the final straw". That time has come and gone. $80/mo for passes, $50-150/Mo for guaranteed day 1 unlocks, the line should have been drawn long ago. I remember when a character unlock was $25 for a 2/3^ character. Now a 3* can run upwards of $100+. If people continue this stance of "well this MIGHT be it for me" then you've already given yourself over to them. This is no different than a gambling addiction as that is exactly what a Gacha game is. I love MSF and SWGoH as much as the next players of these wonderful IP's but folks need to stop standing on if's and maybes and draw a line and stop.

​@DorkyDadMSF Boilon said it best in his video. Normal Gacha games (MSF is not normal) all the characters are plug and play. In MSF it is team based so in the majority of cases you need a full team to be able to play properly. This is the problem when there is the potential for f2p players having to wait 60 to 90 days to get a full set of characters for the team.

I‘m kind of in the same boat, I used to buy two of the passes each month. But not only haven’t the passes been updated so they don’t include as much of what is needed anymore, now they also additionally want me to spend on character releases? To unlock a single character each month via offers that would take me from 40€ a month to 140€ a month. A 150% increase only to unlock a single character at 3 stars. With this change they are pushing me much harder into the full free to play direction instead of where they want to push me.

One thing to remember is that they're making this into a gacha game now, but this game doesn't function this way. There's no dopamine to be had that drives gachas. Even IF you hit that .4% drop on a character orb, who cares? You can't use a character solo by the nature of how this game works. I did finally hit a single 100 drop on Gladiator. Cool. I don't have Thanos so who gives a shit? At least he's the good one on the team, it'd be even more pointless if it were Gorr. This could work if they did it on plug and play characters, not just every baseline team.

This is how I feel. I got lucky and pulled 100 early on Gladiator, but he's just collecting dust right now because I still don't have Gorr or Thanos. Not to mention that he's only 4 stars.

My perspective right now as a 'new' F2P level 98 player who is desperately trying to keep up with every new release is that I never have enough training materials to build out the teams I need for when I need them. And then by the time I do, the event I needed them for is long gone. That's why even though I've unlocked Illuminati (minus Captain Kraken) and they are mostly at 7 red stars, I have not put a single training material into any of them yet because I know I don't have the resources to level up both Illuminati AND Annihilators before the Shattered Dimension is over. So instead I've been playing catch up trying to finally get my Alpha Flight levelled up for Spotlight raids. And I imagine by the time I get them done, the Spotlight Raids will change to another team. That's not to mention that I'm going to have to put together Orchis and Nightstalkers for the raid so I can get back to normal there, and then at some point maybe I will be able to catch my breath and level an arena character or something or God forbid actually get one of my teams to level 95 so I can start Dark Dimenion SIX not even seven or this eight I keep hearing is coming soon... It's just a lot... I think they're severely overestimating the amount of resources that the average player who hasn't been playing day 1 has to keep up with this stuff. I know the intent is to push me into buying stuff, but that's not going to work on me. I will keep plodding along at my own pace, but it is frustrating to be like 4-5 meta teams behind.

i think the game is thriving through the new players, because as a New Player you unlock at least the 3 most recent teams from 1st 2nd and 3rd Strike Milestones for example last August you get 3ys Annihilators and the 2 previous teams. I started playing 100+ days ago and mercs for money was the newest team I got from 3rd strike milestones, then spider society and cabal iirc then add the characters you unlock from the new player calendars, this I don't know if it still continues to this day but when I started I unlocked the Xtreme, Hive-mind, Pegasus and New Avengers, maybe if it still does continue to this day they might even have newer teams to the new player calendars like the alpha flight. and with those unlocks scopely entices new players probably into spending like the time heist

I’d like for these “krakens” that are saying this is what they want. Because they are pushing everyone other they krakens out of the game. If ftp can’t unlock a char for months, then why would they want to play. Players will buy a char or they won’t. They can’t change anyones mind by releasing chars like this.

I don't believe there are any Krakens saying they want this (or very few). I'm a reformed Kraken (25th to get Meph -- was in a top 3 alliance) who gave away my main account after Cap Britain fiasco and became a pass buyer on my second account. I never heard anyone (except for 1 or 2 whiners) complain about exclusivity or having an advantage. The advantage is they have the character maxed. Krakens know the game will die without FTP and light spenders. This is about Scopely feeling like they aren't getting enough money in their current business model. Well, let's see how they like the drop in spending that will result from this.

You don't understand, I played stfc before msf (like 5 years ago). I actually watched someone in my guild drop 10k - you get alliance gifts when other alliance people spend money. He rushed into the enterprise and single handlely dominated the next alliance, making their leader kraken out and drop 5k. This game was insane with spending, you'd need 2 ship packages to unlock a ship, they were $100/ea.

I almost forgot the the most important thing. Ppl are talking about using cores on new characters. Personally, I’m targeting characters required for epic and/or legendary unlocks. So, I’m not using cores on Orchis.

I’m not blaming krakens. They are being honest about what they want. This is Scopely’s fault for operating out of a position of fear. That mephisto buff should never have happened. A dev team with a back bone would have said mephisto is performing correctly according to our metrics. Mephisto owners ruled arena. Whoever had more Mephisto’s won wars. In cc, ppl had two combine the two best cc offense teams with a season rule that helped that counter to beat mephisto, giving mephisto owners a huge advantage. The buff made no sense. It’s a buff that only happens if you are ignoring common sense to just do what some krakens are telling you .

On one hand, this makes *some* sense **maybe**. This game has been dropping 2-4 new characters every month for years. Just on the face of it, that seems unsustainable. They said they wanted to dump minions, but how many different ‘sentinels’ are we getting for Orchis? They’re clearly stretching for this phase. If this were mainly a way to slow down the release of new characters, I get it. But it’s not. It’s a systematic way to make whales feel happy and FTP feel like crap. So on the other hand, this feels ugly and greedy and wrong. I will _never_ become a big spender unless Scopely steps in to negotiate with my HR department, my landlord, and my family. Like it or not, this is just a game. I’m not a content creator that can earn money by playing the game. MSF is just something that has been enjoyable and that I do to kill time. (Please don’t get me wrong! You two are the best and I appreciate everything you do as content creators for this game and its community! I depend on your insights all the time!) This is not going to drive engagement; it’s going to make me feel like I’m wasting my time and falling behind.

I play SWGOH where you get less "cores" and new characters cost way more "cores" during their events, but you get minimum of 5-7 shards per pull and you can actually get 330 shards from "coring" new characters (and 330 gets you max stars in that game). The value in MSF is dogshit, except for the passes - but expecting players to spend more than $80/mo (already a lot of money for a game, and these are considered "low-spenders") is crazy. They are so out-of-touch with reality. But hey whatever, spenders are still gonna spend.

I know I personally spent as much as I did on Cap Brit and Thanos (got both at 1d so def not a light spender) due to them making it feel like these were special cases. If this is the norm, I definitely don't see myself doing that. I think there are a lot like me who spend a good amount of money (I'm in a top 10 alliance) but aren't quite uber-krakens. If they think this event was a success, I think they need to take into consideration that it was a short term success. Those numbers will drop substantially if this becomes the norm. For me it's back to spending $50 on new character releases and if that doesn't get me enough to actually enjoy my purchase, I'll lose incentive to do that also and probably leave my end game alliance and move to something more lower tier where getting the new characters immediately doesn't hurt that much.

Thanks to the recent changes Sentinel was the first I haven't bought the unlock for in a couple years. As they're getting more player-hostile in every aspect of the game I no longer have any desire to give them money for toons that are ALWAYS BROKEN on release.

Sadly I probably contributed, I got a 50 shard drop and a 100 shard drop for Gladiator (after unlocking him already with some minor coring to help out the orbs). And I also got a 100 shard drop for Endgame Thanos (again after unlocking him with some additional cores). Gorr however I was getting total trash on and Sentinel I'm not even up to 10 shards yet, and him I don't intend to core on.

Yeah, I unlocked the 3 new Arena team members. Because I cored like crazy to do it. And I felt super bad doing it. And despite feeling horrible doing it as well, I also cored like crazy to get close to 5* on Pym and Shuri, so I could do an (almost) f2p CB. Between these two events I probably spent at least 25-30k cores. There is no way I want that to be the norm. It feels like shit. And for the Annihilators, I felt like I needed to do it just to keep up with everyone around me. Before the changes to the Arena and the pre release of the Annihilators, I was hard locked in the 11-20, never really had to my attacks. Now I get bumped out of of the top 20 all the time. I'm sure all the people around me felt the same way. So they all either cored or bought offers. If they are using this data as proof that what they are doing is "good" or "working", there is no way that trends are going to continue with a bifrost 2.0 raid team. In the end, it is completely unsustainable anyway. Even with the bump to Arena payouts, you just don't get cores fast enough for that. 6-8k per character even if you are top 10 arena and spend zero cores anywhere else is like 2 weeks of cores. But I am not even in normally in the top 10, it is rare I am able to weasel my way into it. Right now I am sitting at about 6k and I basically not spending them on events. Despite the fact that I really need the Orchis team, there is no way I am spending cores on Sentinel.

I've already had one person leave my alliance because of the direction the game is going regarding new character releases. If 2 people get the 100 shard jackpot and the other 22 people in the alliance get 1 or 2 shards a day from these crappy orbs then their "data" may show more shards being earned but in reality it's less players unlocking the characters. If and that's a big is their data is a real thing or just an excuse to be bigger assholes than before. Anyway I'm done with this comment because it's just gonna get more salty of I I keep talking. Some of this is better than it used to be and some it not. Have we forgotten about the Agatha situation and Apoc? Make it a 1 or 2 star unlock with steep ramp ups on stars. Oh, you got Gladiato? He will suck the mighty moose whank until you get stars on him. F2p gets the char to build him but krakens get the bonuses. I don't mind the grindstone to get them big. 6 months? Fine. Like CC store is fast to build anyway. Nightcrawler was perfect that way. You can do events but will be hard. Again, fine. And then have the krakens buy shards.

Spending nearly 100 a month on passes alone ( traning mats, dark promo credits, gear catalysts needed ) then 100+ per new character release ( 2-3 a month or more ) is just absurd. If they want more money just LOWER THE OFFERS !!! Many more people would buy at 20-50 price point than a few at 100+ it's simple math. More people buying at a lower price point brings in more revenue. Than nearly 500 a month just to play/keep up in the game 😂 This doesn't even include unique gear offers etc. and how many other teams you have to build to play/pass the content.

It's seems plausible to me that most players and even F2P players would spend 20 on a new character release even if it's 3 stars than the 100 one for 5 stars for example. Then again if MSF always has had Krakens and Whales at the helm its alot different from Gacha games. Where here you spend on what you want not spend to have a chance like in gachas. Their whole business model should be revamped and I'm sure lower the price would net them more revenue in the long run. You have more people spending for at least the new characters and Krakens and whales would max them out, buy gear offers, training mat offers etc. But I understand what you mean. I just depends how they choose to interpret their data. Their current model to me seems more of a FOMO and reward big money. But they won't retain long term players that way. Especially if they are starting new today trying to go 100% F2P

Most games try to entice new and keep current players through introducing new content and improving the game, MSF is the only game I've ever played that takes away content to improve value, seriously who in their right mind decided that instead of improving the value of spending directly they would devalue everyone else to give an indirect relative sense of value. Even pass buyers who spend $80/month cannot unlock new characters, that is absurd in itself, they are "catering" to maybe 0.5% of players while alienating everyone else. If they had simply improved the purchasing power (so spenders get more for their buck) everyone would have been happy and maybe more players would be encouraged to spend, but they're banking on the same 1000 odd players to purchase everything regardless while pricing out light-mid spenders and the f2p majority in a game played by >300 000.

Been a year since I spent a penny and I welcome more to join the crowd of people who have money to spend but are unwelcome because they "only" have hundreds of dollars to spend instead of thousands. I disagree in terms of add more value to spenders. The goal is to convert non-paying customers to paying customers by any means as long as they don't have to reduce the cost of their offerings. If they can apply pressure to non-spenders via FOMO and keeping up with the meta in order to force them to spend, they'll do it. They want more money by any means possible for the least amount of investment. "Value" isn't anything but a buzz word to justify their new approach. When you point to games and game companies and want an example of how disconnected corporate mechanics have ruined the industry, this would be a good example. Never forget the corporate maxim- The only thing better than making profit is making more profit.

I’ve been buying all the passes but after this I think I’m done, time for full FTP. How many month after Orchis release until I can actually be effective on all nodes, December? I cored the heck out of Annihilators because they are an arena team which is the source of cores and they are needed for upcoming legendary. That level of coring is not sustainable every month.

I used to spend $100 on each character and would buy all of the battle passes. Then about 6 months ago I switched to $50 per character and I'm still buying all of the battle passes. I think my next step is probably no more character offers and no more battle passes. Quite honestly this game isn't good enough and doesn't have nearly good enough quality control to deserve this kind of cost. Every month there's some new stupid bug pissing people off. Even if I switched to just getting all of the battle passes that's $960 a year for a buggy ass game that doesn't ever seem to have any good ideas for fresh new game modes. If I wasn't in a solid alliance I would have quit already but I'm getting pretty close. The game being semi-friendly to free to play players would probably extend my stay for a while but it seems that the greedy bastards want to make that a thing of the past. I'll probably try it for a while but I'm guessing that will get frustrating pretty quickly having to wait up to 60 days to just unlock the new characters that keep me engaged.

So basically you can't use cores anymore to hoard Campaign, ISO, etc... energy anymore which will make the Leaderboards moving forward all be for Whales and Krakens only. All cores will now be used to be unlocking other new characters. I had been buying Passes, but not anymore. I'll continue to play, but no more spending for me. If I get left behind so be it. Thanks Scopely! You saved me over a $1000 a year.

It"s ok, the F2P event will come 3-4 weeks later than today. They have reduced the new character cadency by reworking more existing characters so at some point they had to find something to compensate and find back the same income as before

Whelp this is it for me. I was an $80 a month every pass buyer. I got lucky with a Shuri orb and decided to buy Hank Pym and got Captain Britian. I even continued to spend on Annihilators, but my alliance is mostly F2P and now we are all going to have to buy raid teams? Hope the krakens keep buying your ‘Best offers ever’ to make up for my $80 a month and the hundreds of other pass buyers who are throwing in the towel.

Scopely is hands down ignoring the community at large and instead forcing you to pay to play by paying for a "chance" to unlock a character sooner. They won't see a dime from me ever again. I know so many say that, but until there becomes a meaningful solidarity in speaking out against it or unification in telling them to fuck off by not giving them a dime, we'll never ever see change.

It’s a mix of a kraken and scopely problem. The krakens want to spend money not use their brain, scopely wants to bend the knee to them. Used to be fun to play and figure things out, theorycraft, all that. Now it’s if you don’t have the newest characters get bent commander!

The blog missed a MAJOR point. Slower character releases is one thing, and while it is LESS FUN to get a character dripped out, it is manageable when expected. BUT, if an event requiring a new team/toon comes along BEFORE the expected FTP engaged player has the team/toon, that is unacceptable. That is Pay 2 Play. We need Scopely to answer to that issue. We need them to assure us they will never release an event requiring a team/toon before the engaged FTP player should have that toon. If they will not make that guaranty, how can they expect to keep FTP and low spend players? Nothing is more frustrating than being gated from content because money is not spent. The last two runs of Pocket/Shattered dimension are the perfect example. On initial release, they were gated so that many in the community were locked out. It took player complaint to open them up to all higher-level players. We should not need to complain to play new content. New content should be available to everyone even if it is very hard. Spenders should have an easier time completing the content quicker and getting rewards faster....maybe they can even progress further, but everyone gets to have fun playing new content.

As a battle pass buyer, this change is pushing me to stop buying the battle passes. Gold and training materials are irrelevant if I can't unlock the new characters. Had I not unlock annihilators with cores I would still not have a single one of them, the orbs are absolute trash.

Shifting out character unlocks to 30+ days is extremely player/consumer unfriendly. Pass-buyers may be spending over $1,000p.a. but still would not have access to characters in a timely manner. From a profitability perspective it's also extremely short-sighted, at best generating a short-term sugar-hit: the game needs content creators to maintain or grow the playerbase; Content creators need a large pool of viewers to be able to dedicate their time to producing engaging content; to get that pool of viewers a sizeable pass-buying and free-to-play player base is needed (as this is still the vast majority of players). If you alienate those players by pushing out unlocks further and they become less engaged or stop playing, that chain collapses and the medium-term profitability of the game will deteriorate.

I have been playing for 1900 days and never used to core any characters. I have had to core all of the Annihilators due to only get 1 or no shards in the stupid event orbs. I also don't have Captain Britain due to the Illuminati release. Up until this point I have been able to unlock all characters that have been released (minus the DD characters). I don't know how much longer I want to continue playing at this point. I have bought Battle Passes in the past but have not spent any money sense the Illuminati release.

I have been playing for 10 months, and at least the last 5 have ben doing partial unlocks via cores for all characters. I do 2 core orbs, because the numbers are tight enough that sometimes that extra 12 shards makes a difference. Sometimes I get lucky. I run an early mid-gamer Alliance that is all f2p and light spenders. There are at least 5 or 6 every release that are not geting the character. I am just pointing this out unless we trick ourselves into thinking that it was a great system that we are now moving away from. Until you are well established in the game, your ability to acquire new characters has always been at least partially random. I don't see that changing as much as it is just going to be over a longer period of time. I'm not happy about the changes, nor do I think any of us should be, I just wanted to point out that its not been as easy as you guys sometimes make it seem. Now, I will definitely be telling my alliance to be setting aside at least 1350 cores a week.

I buy the $50 offer for every character now cos I’m an idiot addict so this doesn’t affect me very much but fuck man this is a super shit change. I used to be ftp during the pandemic before I left the game and the best part of the game, the thing I could hold on to every time they threw out some bullshit, the thing that kept me engaged for so long until I had to go back to work and didn’t have time anymore, was being completely ftp I could unlock every character and if I put the time in, compete with the best of them. I was the leader of a top 100 alliance without spending a penny and I thought that was awesome. Regardless of how many times foxnext/scopely fucked up they always had that. I guess not anymore. To their credit scopely usually realise pretty quickly when they’ve fucked up and correct course, until the next time, but I always thought they knew what was special about msf, every character was ftp. Being British myself I can only apologise that our captain broke that trend forever.

This new release system is total complete 💩..... Since thanos Orbs came out, ive had 11 days now with a total sum of 0 thanos shards, opened 13 orbs last night, got all of 1 shard. Its even worse that they are making raids require teams that are this ridiculous to even get, before you can even get all the characters.

If you are going to spend, spend on the numbered shards. Don't play the slots. I don't plan to spend on this game. I am way late to the party and not a contender. Just doing dailies and trying to enjoy what I can for free... played DC Legends, that game closed down a couple years ago after years of neglect. Remember, you are paying for pixels that will one day poof
