can we not compare performers please? just because you don’t embrace your character doesn’t mean you aren’t good. both are talented and have a good take on the character. EDIT: also i will add that she is right. Mrs. Wormwood is indeed abusive and a monster.

My type cast is way more like Mrs. Wormwood because I usually play divas or people who belt (although I’m a horrible dancer lol) but I knew when my theatre announced we were doing Matilda I had to be Miss Honey. I always wanted to be Matilda growing up because her life is very similar to mine (when I first saw the musical on Broadway I cried because she was so much like me and I’d never seen that before) but I grew out of the age the role is usually played by. So I decided if I couldn’t be Matilda I had to be the one who saves her. I even have a Matilda stuffed animal I’ve had for years who’s basically my comfort thing when I have panic attacks abd has helped me through my hardest days. A lot of people gave me heck about wanting to be that role, saying I couldn’t play it and that I was too big to play her and that I should play trunchbull or wormwood because of my size but I went for it anyway. Our music director said when I auditioned he knew right away it had to be me. He said it was so real and I have so much heart in my voice and I think maybe that’s why I was so good is because I really understand her. Whenever I look at Matilda and sing about how much I love her I think about my stuffed animal Matilda and the musical and how they both got me through so much and it’s very emotional for me. There’s so much about the show I love, hugging Matilda, getting to adopt her at the end, singing my house, etc. I think “everything I need is in here,” and “it isn’t much but it is enough for me,” is Miss Honey first singing about her house but the second time singing about Matilda and I think that’s the moment she decides she wants to adopt Matilda. But my most favorite part of the show is when I sing “This little girl this miracle she seems not to know that she’s special at all.” I just in a way feel like I’m singing to the younger version of myself who thought she was nothing and telling her everything is going to be okay. I’ve dealt with a lot of abuse in my life and I always wanted to be Matilda and have a Miss Honeys save me but in a way I think being Miss Honey has saved me in a way too.

Mrs wormwood is my dream role. If the rights ever come out to perform Matilda I'm going for her. Loud looks like so much fun to do and the whole role is so different from anything I've ever done.

It is monstrous to be an unwanted child, whose mother has no interest in being a mother and did not find an emotional connection to her daughter. No child deserves to be emotionally belittled nor neglected. However, no woman should have to birth, carry, and raise a child she does not want. It is worth noting that a woman cannot be unmotherly, finding joy and fulfillment in other ways, without being caricatured as a self-centered monster. That is what Mrs. Wormwood is: a caricature of a woman who has realized her only value in a world of Mr. Wormwoods is in her superficial existence, and tries to squeeze meaning out of dance.
