CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Regina (Audrey Hepburn) finally discovers Brian's (Cary Grant) true identity.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn star in this stylish comedy-thriller directed by Stanley Donen, very much in a Hitchcock vein. Grant plays Peter Joshua, who meets Reggie Lampert (Hepburn) in Paris and later offers to help her when she discovers that her husband has been murdered. After the funeral, Reggie is summoned to the embassy and warned by agent/friend Bartholemew (Walter Matthau) that her late husband helped steal 250,000 dollars during the war and that the rest of the gang is after the money as well. When three of the men who attended her husband's funeral begin to harass her, Reggie goes to Joshua for help, at which time Joshua confesses that his name is actually Alexander Dyle, the brother of a fourth accomplice in the gold theft. The three men from the funeral are revealed to be the three other accomplices in the crime, and though she knows next to nothing of the heist, Reggie is caught in a ring of suspense as she is followed by the shadowy trio, all after the money. Apparently, the only person she can trust is Joshua/Dyle -- until Bartholomew tells Reggie that the fourth accomplice had no brother, and Joshua/Dyle reveals that he is, in fact, a crook named Adam Canfield. Now Reggie doesn't know where to turn. The musical score by Johnny Mercer and Henry Mancini was nominated for an Academy Award.

Great irony that’s easy to miss - his message to his secretary reveals that the real Bartholomew (whom Dyle was impersonating and whose office he hijacked) is actually the embassy’s head of security! Boy, he’s obviously terrible at his job.

- Cary Grant, who turned 59 during filming, was sensitive about the 25-year age difference between Audrey Hepburn (33 at the time of filming) and himself, and was uncomfortable with their romantic interplay.

My older brother did that when we were young. He'd say something cold, cruel and/or dismissive, and when I'd look shocked at him for the sudden insult, he'd give that exact look. Not a good memory. We get along better now, 35+ years later.

She was a good person, but as an actress she is terribly overrated.
@highland_persuasion
@highland_persuasion 4 жыл бұрын
To be fair, a lot of actresses back in the day were even much more overrated. She wasn't nominated for anything for this movie, but for those she was nominated and won an Oscar for, I get the appeal. She wasn't the best actress, she could never fully disappear into her roles, but had an appeal like no other. Nobody moved, spoke and acted like her up until this day. And when it came to the Academy, they have always tended to favor those who had massive screen presence, star power and stood out more than the quieter, more versatile actors.

She’s popular for her beautiful acting, nothing wrong with that. just the same for Marilyn and Elizabeth Taylor. She’s even said a quote about not seeing herself as an icon and that she can’t control what other people think or say about her, she’s just doing her thing.

I get the hype about Hepburn but she truly has no comedic timing (sometimes). It's like she's just reading the lines and it's terrible. I def see her appeal she's just ugh sometimes especially the "marriage license" reaction. well, this was a waste of a time comment. carry on, cary.
