I have a feeling that would produce some extremely smoky tea! Those husks do a great job keeping the smoke down though. I always wondered before that how the tea doesn't take on the smoke - now we know!

Is bamboo charcoal ever used ? Are the bamboo steamers treated or maybe moistened to keep from getting too hot? Beautiful, artistic video by the way.

These are good questions that I'll have to get back to you on - this producer uses wood, but theoretically I don't see why bamboo charcoal couldn't be used. The main thing is the grain husks to keep smoke down. As for treating the bamboo trays differently, I don't believe they do anything special, but this is a good question to relay.
