Great informative, video, Brad. I still have only drawn in graphite. Haven't wanted to get my hands that dirty with charcoal yet......but there's no denying how easy it is to get dark tones with it. Can't wait for your next video as always. Keep it up. - Jeff

This is a great video but it WON"T work if you try to spray the turpenoid on any charcoal pencil. Doesn't matter if it's one brand or another, I tried out lots. Or charcoal blocks like the General's one. I used the same paper that Bradwyn did and it only worked when I used the vine charcoal. And it won't work if you grind down your charcoal pencils which is what I tried to do first. So you'd need to get the charcoal powder for those results. But it was fun experimenting!

It’s even a more dramatic effect when you mix powdered charcoal with turpenoid and apply it to wet paper. It’s important to tape the paper down first, then wet with a sponge so that no pools of water are on the surface, the drop the mixed turn and charcoal onto the surface. Let this dry and erase and change the way you want.

Watt's Atelier: The best!!!
@spartan34606 жыл бұрын
Ummmm.....no, actually fuck no. Watts is nice for illustration, it's not a fine art school. Robert Watts is a great teacher, not Jeff. Jeff just rambles on and on about himself and how awesome his school is?Grand Central Academy,Angel Academy, Florence Atelier and Safe House Atelier are damn good schools and affordable. Google the cast drawings and paintings and figure drawings from all of the schools I mentioned. You will see a huge difference in quality from Watts compared to the academies I listed.

Cathy Mumford , Try some Bristol paper, which is a very smooth paper; there are several brand (Canson, Fabriano, Strathmore, etc). Also are very good for charcoal and graphite drawings, but too much expensive, any Hot Press watercolor paper, like Canson Mouline du Roy, Arches hot press (pink block).
@brianf53595 жыл бұрын
I think the manufacturers of of the Turpenoid product have taken something out of the chemical ingredients. Because I purchased exactly the same brand and used the same technique, but the sprayed Turpenoid sat on the paper and charcoal without having any effect at all. This was disappointing. Great artwork though.
@CharlieNaebeck5 жыл бұрын
Brian F Try acetone if turpenoid does not work. Most nail polish removers work great! Try it on a test sheet before applying to an actual drawing. Have fun!
