I'm using Amazon Fire Tabs with a Geniatech OTA TV adapter which plugs into the Tab's USB+C. This drains the battery and I wish I could find a "working" usb-c splitter cable ending in two usb-c females, so I could use the OTA TV accessory and plug in a standard usb-c male charge cable to keep the Fire Tab charged. Why is this type of splitter so hard to find?

Not sure that the Nook has this capability. From what I've seen is that it's s Samsung specific feature.

Looking for a way to use a multi connect USB c to my android s21 phone for gaming (strictly no Bluetooth as Bluetooth = horrible lag on controllers) But also output to TV. Phones only have 1 USB atm... Is it possible to have connected 1 charger 2x controllers 1 cable to HD (tv/monitor)

I watched this video and thought the LAVA connector would be the solution for my charging problems. I checked their website for the price......$39.99 That is waaaay to much. That's ten times the amount I originally wanted to spend. I cannot imagine anyone buying this.

there is so many otg cables that work just fine. i am using the j5 create right now as i send the message. i also use the okx usb type c hub pro that even allows me to rum hdmi to three different screens so again a lot of different choices if you just look around...

USB-C is a different story. This is specifically for allowing OTG with micro USB at the same time as charging the device. There are very few solutions out there that work in this manner. Not saying that there aren't other solutions. This is an option.

It seems like a hot topic with USB-C, from my research, it seems like it's up to manufacturers to support usb-c host and charging at the same time :( with no list / info on devices that support thoes modes

Can you help me with a situation. I ride a Honda Goldwing 2018. This has one USB socket in the glovebox which can be used to connect my iPhone and use CarPlay on the dash screen. I also want to power my GoPro while riding. If I use a USB splitter the CarPlay stops working. Is there any device which can both charge a enable CarPlay while charging my GoPro with one USB which is available with the bike. Thanks.

Hi Tim, great video, but looking at the price for the Lava adapter im scratching my head @ $38 a pop... Production costs around 2-3 Dollars. So I have to ask if your team can find a better option. Especially since this adapter only offers 1 port for accessories, it´s not a good buy at all.... ;) Im considering pulling out my soldiering iron at this point ;).

For micro USB it is typically only some Samsung and Lenovo tablets. LAVA has a full list of supported devices on their website 👍

This has been discussed for quite a while on XDA and the assumption most make there is you're better off making your own custom cable instead of buying into those solutions that may be quite expensive or not work.

hi great video btw but I'd like to highlight a problem I had hoped you'd include in your video....now I dont know if you get the settings wrong on a tab a6 but all I've done is turn on the setting so it stays on while plugged in.......the problem I have is that when I turn off the ignition in my car the tablet then becomes the host and starts providing power to all my accessories like dab areal and my joycon.....I am also using the lava adaptor with of course the 12v stepdown........would you please be able to get back to me with a solution to stop the tablet from providing accessory power because the tablet also stays awake which is a massive problem.

When I tried the LAVA connector, as soon as there was no external power the USB devices did not power up and you could see them disconnect from the tablet

Would something like this work for an Android phone running Android Auto to get power from an external source, but still provide data to the car's USB input? I have a USB 2.0 Y cable, one for data, one for power, but the power end doesn't seem to do much, my android doesn't do any quick charge and sometimes has a negative charge.

These units only work with a select few tablets. I haven't seen any phones that support the functionality on their micro-USB port

I have a Galaxy S7. I wasn't able to get anything to work with power. Not even the Lava adapter, it just shows moisture warning, it seems like the phone just doesn't want to take power going in at the same time as having the OTG working. Experimented and tried to run power through a traditional OTG cable and it did the same thing, moisture warning. What an OTG cable does is short the sensor port, which I guess tells the phone to send power out to the device rather than getting power in.

It depends on your phone on whether or not it supports the functionality. LAVA lists a set of devices they support on micro-USB, but the list is short

Hmmmm when i plug in power to the Lava, it stop the data transfer.. ie. lets say i use usb dongle for mouse, it works when i unplug power from the Lava, but as soon as power is introduced, the keyboard and mouse stop working... any advice?

Do you have a tablet that is compatible with the Lava functionality? There are only certain Samsung devices that are compatible

Can an ipad Mini do carplay? Or perhaps can it be *made to do carplay and also be charged at the same time? Assuming I'm using my iphone as the source and the ipad mini is just be used to display the carplay interface driven by the phone.

Sad. I was researching about this and found out that not all devices is capable of doing both. I guess going wireless transfer is the best option to do both charging and data transfer. And again sadly. To connect wirelessly and charge, as we all do, you can only connect to one device at a time. I just hope someone could make a wireless adapter that can take both keyboard and mouse as one device. Does anyone have an idea??

@@WorkshoptwelveConnect it does charge but won't handle data (Joycon exr). Every time you press the button Joycon will shut off. Lava amp output is very limited. Unfortunately i am totally disappointed with whole 370z setup, i feel like i wasted the money and time. Don't get me wrong it looks nice in the car and i do appreciate your effort, but I should'e know better before dive in to the modification. As a suggestion for you, There is a lot of area need to be clarified with clear instruction. Start from OTG+charging , auto mode power on (root) , JoyCon Exr wiring diagram for steering wheel controller and backup camera. Lucky i am IT and can work around roadblocks, but at the end of the day i am not a car guru. Here is the link for my car with tablet ibb.co/59mPzMk

@@KavanMavati we have it going in and out of sleep with power on/off if the car. To have the tablet come on when powered off when detecting charge needs a root. But we are working on easy access to the tablet in upcoming plastics for the 370z.

Good info. I'll probably just make one it doesn't get much simpler. I game on Android with mouse and keyboard but can't charge. I get about 5 hours of playtime and my battery is about 50%. If it doesn't work no big deal but it works be nice.

If you want an elegant and 100% working soulution: Buy a smartphone which has wireless charging functionality and you'll have a free USB port for any USB accessory. Works perfectly with my Samsung Galaxy S20+, it is charging wirelessly and at the same time I am watching a movie from attached USB stick!
