Into the Valley of Death rode the 600 as the story is told through Tennyson's poem. The Charge of the Light Brigade was a colossal error of mistaken orders, carried out by brave men, despite the men knowing it meant almost certain death. During the Battle of Balaclava they were mistakenly ordered to charge into a valley that was flanked on both sides by Russian and at the end of the valley was the Russian heavy artillery. This tragic and cataclysmic event for the British military shocked the public and inspired Alfred, Lord Tennyson to write his stirring poem of the events just 6 weeks after the event occurred.
A veteran of the charge, Trumpeter Martin Leonard Landfried, from the 17th Lancers made a recording on an Edison cylinder which we use in this film of him playing the same trumpet that he used on that fateful day in the Crimea in 1854.

I have been told that horses are one of the most difficult things to animate, so the fact that this is so seamless is fantastic. Although (as a brit) I've learned to expect no less from the Yarnhub team! Also I found the rendition of Land of Hope and Glory very moving; great job telling this tragic tale.

Half a league, half a league, Half a league onward, All in the valley of Death Rode the six hundred. “Forward, the Light Brigade! Charge for the guns!” he said. Into the valley of Death Rode the six hundred. “Forward, the Light Brigade!” Was there a man dismayed? Not though the soldier knew Someone had blundered. Theirs not to make reply, Theirs not to reason why, Theirs but to do and die. Into the valley of Death Rode the six hundred. Cannon to right of them, Cannon to left of them, Cannon in front of them Volleyed and thundered; Stormed at with shot and shell, Boldly they rode and well, Into the jaws of Death, Into the mouth of hell Rode the six hundred. Flashed all their sabres bare, Flashed as they turned in air Sabring the gunners there, Charging an army, while All the world wondered. Plunged in the battery-smoke Right through the line they broke; Cossack and Russian Reeled from the sabre stroke Shattered and sundered. Then they rode back, but not Not the six hundred. Cannon to right of them, Cannon to left of them, Cannon behind them Volleyed and thundered; Stormed at with shot and shell, While horse and hero fell. From what I remember reading, Cpt. Nolan was something of a toxic personality and had some contempt for the cavalry as they had not participated much in previous battles due to the fixed nature of the battles. When the order to capture the guns was communicated Lucan asked "Guns? What guns?" and Nolan responded by waving at the guns at the end of the valley and saying 'There, sir, are your guns." The battle of Balaklava would have faded into obscurity if it weren't for Tennyson's poem and Roger Fenton's photography. The Crimean War saw the first use of battlefield photography and it was also the first to use the telegraph to pass on the results of battles to the public within days. The public back home became enthralled by this battle from the poem and when they heard about the soldiers' primitive living conditions with the onset of winter approaching, they contributed knitted scarfs, socks and full face coverings that became known as balaclavas. Excellent video work by the way! My only criticism is that when firing from a distance the guns were firing solid shot and the shell bursts were timed to go off before they hit the ground. If you're interested in Roger Fenton's photography I made a video called Balaklava that you can find on my channel.
@heirofaniu
@heirofaniu 2 жыл бұрын
Another point to add onto Nolan being a bit toxic is that Bingham, Lord of Lucan, had been so notably absent from the battles thus far that he had unfairly earned the moniker "Lord Look-on" from some of his fellow officers, which certainly didn't help matters.
@robertstorey7476
@robertstorey7476 2 ай бұрын
Nolan would have been court martialled if he had survived. He knew what Raglan wanted the cavalry to do but failed to explain it. Lucan could and should have refused to order the direct attack he thought Raglan was ordering, its called leadership.

The Charge of the Light Brigade wasn’t the disaster it’s been made out to be. 123 men killed, wounded or captured, a lower casualty rate than the infantry regiments at the Alma and the Inkerman. It drove the Russians from their position and Russians didn’t relish coming out to face those troops again. They found it difficult to believe sober troops would do such a thing. It was thought to be a terrible disaster due to the bad reporting by William Howard Russell which was then used by Tennyson as the basis for his poem. 600 men rode through and drove off 2,500 Russian light cavalry. Had the heavy cavalry followed them up as was intended the entire Russian force would have been driven off the field in confusion. Instead Lord Lucan stopped the attack halfway through and called off the heavy cavalry which would have made it even more spectacular. Those Russians never came out on horseback to play cavalry again. They were awestruck by the feat of arms who had had nothing to drink but water.

I still reallly want a "Spartacus and the Third Servile War" video From what little is known of his time in Thrace before being enslaved by the Romans, to his time in the ludus learning the gladiatorial arts, to his stand at Mount Vesuvius, to his fall at the hands of Crassus' legions. It's said that he killed 4,000 men himself in his last stand against the armies of Crassus, but his body was buried amongst his own army and given no recognition or honor, because they wanted him to be remembered as nothing more than a common slave.

How much time do you take to Animate these 3d Videos? Because we took almost 2 week to get 1 Animation Video out with 2 of us working, and that too we have simplified our Animation a lot. Modeling and Rigging took almost 5 days for us . Grateful if you let us know because we started this channel from your Inspiration. Peace.

They that had fought so well Came through the jaws of Death, Back from the mouth of hell, All that was left of them, Left of six hundred. When can their glory fade? O the wild charge they made! All the world wondered. Honour the charge they made! Honour the Light Brigade, Noble six hundred!
