LA Chargers Defensive Coordinator Jesse Minter sits down with Hayley Elwood to discuss joining Head Coach Jim Harbaugh and the Bolts. The DC outlines his vision for Derwin James Jr., Tuli Tuipulotu, & the defense, translating what he did on defense at Michigan to the NFL, and competing against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Exactly, Derwin THRIVES near the box, and Staley would put him as a deep safety, handicapping gimmick on his best strengths

@@CP-ct5hpDifference is their system is a proven success in multiple places (Ravens last year, Michigan since they’ve been there, Harbaugh’s 49ers), not just the rams while having the best dt ever and a top 3 cb. Staley fooled people but was quickly exposed and the way Minter speaks is much more mature. Staley was very “my system or nothing” and Minter is clearly looking moreso at the overall picture. Plus Minter isn’t the HC so if SOMEHOW he’s awful, Harbaugh will most certainly make changes.

I remember watching Staley tell Derwin “you can do this you can do that you can play star you can play nickel you can do anything” which I was hyped for at first but it just ended up being confusing for everyone on defense. Hearing minter talk about just getting him going and being around the ball is so refreshing after 3 years of defensive confusion

Insane defensive IQ. We had Mike MacDonald in 2021 as DC, who obviously has shown he's elite by being a NFL HC now, but Minter was even better at Michigan.

With Eric cut and Mike Will most likely being cut as well, they can still make a splash in FA still. Get Bosa and Mack on extension to around $25M a year mark and extend Keenan closer to $20M a year, that should get them under the cap by $40M. Then I would make a play for either Wilks or Chris Jones for the same contract as Bosa/Mack, then sign Calais Campbell to a 1 to 2 year fully guaranteed deal to anchor the run. Watch how fast that line takes over games.

So smart and such a great Segway from college because that’s what we have been missing, we need to draft players and coaches to beat the Chiefs and that’s what it is about. Before they were just try to focus on their own identity and they had no real goals, and the team that they created did nothing against other teams. Now we are building a team from scratch to destroy the Chiefs and God is my witness we’re going to end the Mahomes era.
