At last ..!.. someone finally does a practical demonstration of something a solar panel actually may be of use some day ..Thanks!

That charge controller is a nice find... Thanks, Steven!

@stevenc22 Looking into it further, it seems that the controller is not really MPPT, but I don't see where that really matters much for this application.

How long total from that pannel to charge it fully?

That was painful to watch but not as painful as I thought it would be

Pro tip: If you use whitening stripes on your teeth, just smile at your bike. It will stay charged.

So what are you looking at to charge a 15AH battery with that solar charger? 20 hours or so?
@stevenc22 Жыл бұрын
My battery worked out to under 8 hours

Nice idea,iI just so happen to have the same 100w solat panel, but will that solat voltage converter stop charging the battery when it reaches 100%? Great video man, thank you.
@stevenc22 Жыл бұрын
Yes. It is programmed with max voltage of battery and turns off when full.

Can e-bike batteries be charged whilst riding do you know?

Yes

@@stevenc22 Bosch, Shimano, Specialized, TQ, Ebike-motion, Fazua, Panasonic, Yamaha or any safe brand ebike producer does not allow charge while riding. You have retrofitted a Chinese made motor that accepts that, it doesn't mean all e-bikes behave like that.

You understand charging the battery has nothing to do with the motor manufacturer and most BMS will take charge while discharging

Dose the solor charger stop when battery hits the set voltage?

What's about the connector to the battery? Is this a common connector?
@petem.3719 Жыл бұрын
Not if it's on my battery

Yes most e bike batteries use a barrel connection for charging

I could never stand being in that loud of a sound for hours. Not a very enjoyable camping trip.... Also I don consider that solar panel portable (in order for it to be considered portable it would ned to be 1/4 that size) and that converter thingie seemed heavy to carry in back pack and uses up a lot of space.
@stevenc22 Жыл бұрын
The inverter is incredibly light. The solar panel is kind of big.

@@stevenc22 just strap the panel on a pannier rack,maybe modify it so abit wider and longer

I asked Bard AI if the BMS and overcharge protection on most Ebike 48v batteries is reliable and it said yes. I then asked it if a 50v 430w solar panel could ever put out more than 60v with a load and it said no. I'm wondering about a controller like this one for that config: Genasun GVB-8-Li-54.2V-WP, 8 A (Input)
@stevenc22 Жыл бұрын
Yes this controller can boost up to 90v

Ohms law one of the basics of electronics. Voltage = Amps * Resistance. You can increase the voltage but you sacrifice current or Amps to do it. Think of it like a spray nozzle on a garden hose, you can increase the pressure but you are restricting the volume of water coming out.
