I use an MPT-7210 boost converter and a USB-C to 5.5x2.1 adapter and a 90w USB-C brick and it charges fine. I have a whole video on it if you want to click my name. The USB dongle was only like $17 bucks or something and the boost converter was like $30. I had a 90w USB brick and was charging a 48v battery around 1.25amps with it pulling about 81w so as not to totally kill it. With a 100w brick you could probably get 1.5amp or maybe more for charging. Considering most ebike companies cheap out anyway and give you only a 2 amp charger. You're not losing that much since at 2 amps that's around 109w at 54.6v terminal voltage. So theoretically you could get maybe 1.75-1.8ish with just using a 100w usb brick.

unfortunately although it's possible, it's just really inefficient at the moment, here's why: firstly PD only supports 100w of power max, fast for the average consumer however I personally charge at 200w, secondly, pd does not support current limiting meaning you need to add a boost converter on the output of the 20v (which isn't very efficient)
@duniek867 күн бұрын
yes, but if you built in this converter into vehicle, and your main chagrer will break or you lost it, then you can charge it as emergency via usb C charger which you can find anywhere instead 13-14S or 20S charger for specific battery

What about parallel charging with two USB-C adapters? That would work and not be too crazy. There are light and powerful adapters (GaN based) that can easly output 60W and weight less than the one you're using.

hm... but that wastes easily like 15% of the energy... I dont know about that.
@MrJob914 жыл бұрын
@@Pryside hello leo, i admire your work and video skills. Sure it wastes some energy. But for me its about using great energy storage potential i had laying around. I have these packs that are laying around not being used in my planes most of the time. And i simply want to increase the range of my crazy imortor 1.9 so i 3d printed some things to add more capacity when needed. In the city stock is fine.but when i need 30km of range i add all sorts of batteries. I have 3d printed a holder for 2 makita (hobbiest series drill) batteries and epoxied the dc to dc converter onto the holders to be able to charge the bike while driving with any sort of voltage potential that i can find. Like a car battery when camping or my stack of 4000mah 4s packs that i wired in series. It even heats up my batteries during winter times to perform better. I've also made a 10s pack from 4 lidl parkside 4ah drill batteries at about 2 euro per 18650 cell and being able to charge them inside my house serperately is awesome aswell. The losses are not the problem

Hi Leo! I bought the same DC-DC Boost converter that you are using... however when loading it my USB-C power supply always cuts out. I tried to limit the amperage with the righthandside potentiometer but it seems to have no effect at all.... the power supply immediatly gets overloaded and cuts out. Any idea?
@Pryside3 жыл бұрын
i would connect the boost converter to a lab bench power supply or another battery and then charge a second battery with the boost converter and then set up the current with that as a load. then u can finetune the current to a degree where ur power supply doesnt cut out

Servus!
