I used a ТВС-110ПЦ15 transformer but you can use any other TV flyback transformer. You can also use any spark plug. I used a low voltage rectifier КД226Д diode taken out from the same TV. You can capture the current with any grounded object: a bicycle, a human, a TV antenna, etc. Please notice! Don’t forget to ground the the other terminal of the of the high voltage transformer coil. It it won’t work if you don’t do that.

We do a very similar thing in Poland, but instead of using a transformer and antenna, the power lines are connected to transformer stations and then to our houses, so we simply plug a phone charger to an electrical outlet.

nope, it's real. The spark plug allows for pulsed current from the antenna that picks up some electric fields from the power lines. The pulsed current goes into the high voltage side of the transformer and when a pulse goes through, a much lower voltage higher current pulse is made on the output, but it must be rectified with a diode to make it DC. The internal capacitors of the car charger smooth out the DC and bring it down to a stable five volts, allowing the phone to charge. I was a bit skeptical at first too, but the circuit makes sense, and I think it could supply sufficient power.

You could damage your car charger and your phone this way. I would recommend using four diodes, because your transformer gives you AC current. Using only one diode makes the current to look like this: /\__/\__/\__/\__ and so on. /\ is the voltage rising, and __ is no voltage, because the diode blocks it. So you get pulses of voltage, which is not good for anything. You should use the Graetz bridge to fully rectify the voltage, and a capacitor so the voltage becomes straight DC.

Be really careful standing under any power lines holding up a rod/conductor/antenna it's super dangerous, it could be the last thing you ever do. Even at a train station with fishing rod CURRENT CAN JUMP ACROSS AND KILL YOU.

@TruAnRksT
@TruAnRksT 7 жыл бұрын
Yes this is true, a field exists between the wires and earth. You could say these are losses and you would be somewhat correct. But the antenna causes a distortion in the local field so siphoning off power this way does cause a small hit to the supply. Very small though. But if you can get this much power off the lines do you really want to be there?

@roygalaasen
@roygalaasen 5 жыл бұрын
TruAnRksT the field is going to the ground??? The field is created AROUND the wire, no matter what is near. The field is strongest close to the wire, then diminishing with the square of the power the further away in distance. Basically the same as a radio transmitter antenna is doing.

Considering the metal fences, railroad tracks, and metal structures these lines cross over or run very closely parallel to from the power plant to the substation, the hit from a rigged up cellphone charger is insignificant. Like a pebble hitting a freight train.
