We’ve all had those moments where we wish we could think of something funny to say, but our mind goes blank. It can be frustrating, especially when you’re talking to someone you really want to like you.
So in this video, we’ll go through 4 easy ways you can make people laugh and love being around you. We’ll do this by breaking down some clips from the king of sarcasm, Ryan Reynolds.
Some people mistakenly think this type of sarcastic humor makes you an a**hole, but when done properly it can instantly make people like you more.

You nailed it! I'm a lead singer in a punk rock group and I often crack my audience up with funny little stories about my wife and kid in between songs. Later though, at home I'm pretty much in the doghouse all the time, getting the cold shoulder from my wife. My daughter also seems untrusting and I find her often looking at me with suspicious eyes when we are together in car rides and she thinks I'm watching the road. Oh well, too bad they don't accept my affable personality the same way my loyal fans do. I'm not gonna change who I am because of a few close family members who don't get me. It's funny how that I do most of these things already. I have Asperger's, which I found out as an adult (oh the joy of realizing why I was a "strange" kid), and having such I was always in an awkward position in communicating with my peers. I quickly learned that humor and sarcasm made people like me and I felt less awkward. Often times I made myself the brunt of the joke, which made people laugh harder. I was asked one time, "You know they're laughing 'at' you and not 'with' you, right?" I replied, "No, they are laughing with me. I introduced the joke, I set it up and delivered it. I know it was about me, but it made everyone laugh which was my main goal. So, you see, they are laughing with me and not at me." Great video, thanks.

He is good at trained network television humor. Most of the hosts of those shows are actually laughing in relief because he is playing along and they don't have to work with realistic, unscripted answers. Those are definitely the types of answers they want because he keeps things in the outer bubble of his true opinions, which the TV hosts prefer as well. The TV show hosts actually hate it when the celebs get all realistic and dark. It's usually random and hard to work with, especially if the answer wasn't engaging the audience.

The best type of interactions are sometimes acting like a kid, because the other person will feel at ease, because your being you and your have taken your guard down, they can do the same

real-life example a few weeks back: i talk via teams to a group of ppl who are our clients. we are talking about a bill volume of 6 or even 7 digits for the project that THEY will spend with us (we will do the job). I am the guy who is going through all the requirements with them... checking if everything is thought out, make suggestions on how to achieve X and Y etc. now, my headset is somewhat broke, has a loose wire and so sometimes the mic drops... so it happend again, they already knew abou it and were just like "oh alex, your mic again..." -- so i clap the mic a few times until the sound is back and then i am like "ah damn, i really need a new headset... alexa! order me a new headset [i wait deliberatly 2 secs] ... i just realized, i don't have alexa" ... group is having a good time... back to topic of 7 digits volume. it is way not the only joke i brought up, i even made some jokes regarding their CEOs and so (would be too long to elaborate) -- we are really on good terms, i like them, i've been told in other, higher-up meetings, me and a colleague of mine who is working on this aswell are reported there as a pleasure to work with. i must say, of course there is also competence in the field, after all they are not there to be entertained but to get a multi-country online store up and will have to perform at least at the current level... but i'd say that they appreciate being entertained at the same time ;) i don't know if you really need that advice, so i'll write it down just for the general audience: emotions help with learning. that's why frontal teaching is so ineffective (it is pretty boring to listen to somebody and just inhale the knowledge). however, you can make sure that ppl keep the important parts when you make them connect emotionally to what you are saying, so that they have this additional reference. so put something important around a funny story for example that make ppl laugh and later, instead of refering to the topic directly, just refer to something from the joke and voila, ppl also remember the actual topic behind it -- just be sure not to make the whole meeting a laughing stock, in that case you are just entertaining, not teaching :)

Often witty humor is experienced within your family environment and it develops as you grow up. Some people have this natural ability and never think about it. The best comes from you when you are in the moment. Trying too hard will only get you rolling eyes. I never realized there were courses to learn this.

One tip that I find particularly useful is remembering key words, phrases or aspect from the other person's story, and then adding it in at the right time when they are talking creating a funny fake end to their story. This not only creates a funny moment, but also reinforces that you have paid attention to them, making you even more likable!

To be fair, I'm an introvert and often loud. I learned a long time ago that there is vulnerability in being a wallflower. Being loud and dominating the conversation and general mood of a space affords the power to control the actors in that space. So, as an introvert, I can do more to proactively control my (emotional) distance by being dominant rather than quietly hoping only social interactions that I find comfortable occur.

I frequently can make the whole room laugh, but sometimes: I just get crickets. Like rejection, you just kind of have to become comfortable with that. Not everything you do, is going to be a hit.

My friend (let's call him Bob) often exaggerate a lot about how bad his life is as a joke. I introduced it to my other friend (let's call him Jake) and he did this kind of jokes. Later, Jake complained to me how Bob seem to have the worst life in the world and that it was not pleasant to be with him. I was quite surprised, I didn't think anyone would take Bob's jokes seriously. Personally I like when Bob does this kind of jokes but hey maybe careful with this.

This could really be due to the specific of two groups mixing. If you are with your group of friends, people knowing your sense of humour, you do not need to put heavy signals while being sarcastic, while if you are with new people it is necessary to signal sarcasm more clearly. At the same time, on the receiving end, if you are new in a group you tend to make less assumption and you will be looking more carefully for potential sarcasm. However, this was a peculiar situation: Bob, You, and Jake. Both Bob and Jake feels they are majority: Bob and You, that's 2 over 3. You and Jake, that's also 2 over 3. Improvising an ASCII Venn's diagram (1[1)1]. Bob is used to the fact you know his sense of humour, and he does not feel he has to put strong signals. Jake knows your sense of humour, and he is not expecting the new guy not to follow what he perceives as the "group routines". It's very easy to have misunderstandings in those (1[1)1] situations.

It started for other ppl, but over time, it turned to something I do to entertain myself. I tell ppl, u think I do this for attention, but I really do it because I find it funny. If you go back to the days of the old Studios in Hollywood it was all about personality and not necessarily great acting chops. That is, stars were built out of their own personalities and they developed great acting abilities based on themselves. So the biggest stars became brands, using aspects of their core personalities. You can get great performances from actors with range but most are a familiar brand. We accept different James Bond actors only if they play him as themselves and can make Bond believeable. Movie stars always play to their own brand.

I went to a job interview. It was a panel interview with about eight people. I was seated at the head of a conference table. After the last person arrived and the door was closed, before anyone said anything, I said, "The reason I've called you all here today . . ." Everybody cracked up, and then they interviewed me. I'm not saying it was my humorous icebreaker that did it, but at the end of the interview I was offered the job. 😁

I played by this book for say 4 decades. Now in my 50s I have no friends, my grown up kids will not talk to me and my wife tolerates me because she doesn't want to end up alone. At least my dogs and cats still love me.

I find that 1-2 beverages into a social gathering , my wit engages without fear of judgement. My spiritual gift of sarcasm weaves in & around others during conversation. So much fun to see others shake with laughter when they're involved with the set-up. Have to keep reined in enough to make it fun, nonthreatening, and a wee bit self-deprecating. It can be a bit tricky during church socials since I'm protestant. I find a fake Irish accent helps when you're reading Job aloud. An Irish brogue "Gird up your loins like a man." is humor gold to we women.

Went to a party. The ppl there were older and good friends. They were just cracking jokes making fun of each other about evthing and anything. It really got me in the mood, and i joined in. Ended up being 1 of the funniest nights, we laughed so hard. Until we got too drunk and sloppy lol

The greatest thing about the way this is is the way that it explains how when you go to the extreme of explaining the proliferation of how this type of situation is understandably . So if that doesn't mean that from the beginning of the conversation there wasn't as much of the same type of situation as it already wasn't to begin with.

I think it’s worth noting that all of these jokes were most likely thought of beforehand and quite possibly he rehearsed them in his mind or used them before. We can all develop a repertoire of go to canned humour. One I’ve used many times is when someone is training another on the cash register, I like saying something like is he/she your apprentice… how are they coming along. Speaking as if the trainee isn’t even in the room, it has never failed to get a smile out of both of them. It defuses the situation where they may think their customer could be getting impatient. Two huge problems with this advice: They're using an already-well-liked celebrity to try to teach a technique that works for him regardless, because of who he is. Using celebrities isn't at all representative of real-world situations. And two, a biggie: a ton of people simply don't expect any kind of sarcasm, or so often will not "get it," in many social situations; they're expecting a certain level of cordiality as the accepted behavior, and to go outside of it will work *only* for those who have a ready sense of humor...which a TON of people simply do not have. Countless people do not simply default to humor in interactions with others. Again, it's just not the common mode of behavior for social situations which a lot of people find stressful on some level or another. Some people _do_ have the humor default setting, the more relaxed easy-going people, but how many of those do we find these days.

Timing is VERY important. I grew up in a household where you had to be quick on your feet when it came to witticisms, one liners and come-backs. I was very good at it. Now I have a brain wasting disease and even though I still can think of a great zinger it's like I'm perpetually on a 2 second delay! Hubby picks on me and says, "That's the come-back from something I said ten minutes ago". It is great comedy fodder.

The thing you're forgetting here, he's naturally funny and charismatic. Its a talent he was born with and does for a living at the highest level. If you try to force a type of personality you are not you'll come off fake and trying to hard and people will like you less. The thought that you can be as funny and charming as Ryan Reynolds with "practice" is a flawed one. Instead, how bout you be yourself, find the people that like you as yourself and laugh at the jokes that already come naturally for you and hang out with those people.you'll be much happier than practicing hard to be somebody else in all social situation to find "friends" that you have to act for every time. sounds exhausting.

Charisma and charm can be learned. But you don’t need to have the charisma of Ryan Reynolds. Just start practicing social skills. Have more conversations with people and try to correct yourself after each step of the process, remembering always that you will not win everyone, and you should not to. With time, you will found a natural charisma of you, a charisma that will not be necessarily equal of the Ryan Reynolds, but yes a charisma that you are comfortable to, something that is not based on people’s opinions. Do that, and you will be in “charisma ville”.

It's best to work on liking yourself, so when you truly know who you are, that natural calmness will come and you will be relaxed enough to enjoy yourself in conversation with people. And, by extension, people will enjoy themselves in conversation with you. A nervous little person running around trying too hard to be memorable is a turn off.
