That was a great time to be alive. I was born-again in 1974. We got together in home Bible groups and it didn't matter what denomination anyone was from. Catholics, Baptists, etc, we all fellowshipped and it was glorious. Lord, make it happen again.

I had just turned 23 years old and was invited by my pastor to join him in attendance. This movement was frowned upon by our denomination and he was told to resign his church. The meeting had such a powerful impact on me that I can still be brought to tears just watching this. How can one watch an unedited version of this historic event?

KC 1977 was a promise that that is still unfulfilled. It was never of an organizational unity, but a promise of a spiritual unity. It is still a hope that can only be fulfilled in Jesus by the working of the Holy Spirit, who seeks to make disciples who live not for salvation, but for the Kingdom of God. It is good not to forget. It is better to see it yourself. Matthew 28:16-28)

Reading a book that had my dad's testimony as well as other's on the work of the Holy Spirit led me to this video on many speakers lifting up the Holy Spirit. Mrs Maria Von Trapp of Sound of Music fame gives and very different view of gender than the ones now being espoused - she seems to me to be describing God's design for us as humans. Starts at 6:50

I was there too. I was working for CharCom Productions and was running sound for the film. It got very interesting on the floor of Arrowhead Stadium...and very hot. It was, after all, July in Kansas City!
@edgetaker5 жыл бұрын
I used to attend the Catholic prayer group at Queen of Peace H.S in Burbank, IL, from about 1974-1978. I believe one of the founders of CharCom belonged to it. They made 2 other films that I know of..one of a Notre Dame conference, and one of the pilgrimage to Rome at which the Pope made an appearance.

It was hot! And do you remember the rain? No one left the stadium, only praising God even more.

edgetaker I believe you’re talking about Joe Engeln. He hired me as a freelance sound man for the Kansas City film and another one shot in New York and New Jersey in May of that same year. I was home after graduating from college and living with my parents in Oak Lawn at the time. It was a very interesting early job experience, especially the witnessing of thousands of people speaking in tongues.

I was in that stadium, too. Bob Mumford did not apologize for the Shepherding Movement. He apologized for the way the leaders grossly misused discipliship for their own agendas and to their own advantage. He still believes in discipleship ... and it is still the great commission.
@Endtimeson6 жыл бұрын
I was in the shepherding movement at the very time of this gathering in 1977. In bondage to a man from 1975-1981, until the Holy Spirit set me free and then opened my eyes to the Word of God concerning the works of the flesh, namely, witchcraft, which was being used to control a small body of young families. I was only saved for two years when my family was sucked into this. Yes, men abused the movement, but still I believe this was an extreme form of discipleship even without the abuse. There must be pastors with a loving heart to minister to God’s people, not a controlling spirit or attitude. Sadly, there are many of the latter and not enough of the former in churches today. I think the Lord called them the “Nicolaitans” in Revelation. The body of Christ is to function as a body, not to be lorded over by any man or woman. Sorry, I’m not trying to preach at you, my sister, but thru my experience the Lord taught me a great lesson. I have many mentors I look up to in the church or body, but it is my fellowship and relationship with the Lord Himself and the Holy Spirit that has accomplished the most in my spiritual life. God bless you much!

What's the difference between the Latter Rain movement and the Charismatic movement? I miss the praise and worship of the late 70s/early 80s.
@michaelcaza-schonberger92828 жыл бұрын
The Latter Rain Movement (LTRM) was only within Pentecostalism, it has its roots to North Battleford Saskatchewan, Canada in the 1940s. Unfortunately it caused a division between those who were in the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada (PAOC) and subsequently a new group came forth. However now this is unity (for the most part) between those of us who are PAOC and those in the LTRM.

The Latter Rain Movement morphed and has a new name. New Apostolic Era. Includes Prosperity Gospel. Heretical. Believes the church is to take over create the Kingdom of God before Christ Returns!.

Today 5th of June 2017, feast of the Pentecost, I was fortunate to find this video clip of the Charismatic Rally held in Kansas City Arrowhead Stadium where I with other six participated from Sri Lanka, at the invitation of Ralph Martin, Word of God community, Ann Arbor, Michigan. Thank God the Spirit of God has moved like a river all over the world and today in Rome the charismatics from all over the world, from all denominations are gathering with the Pope. Pope's vision is Ecumenisam and he hope to rally round all christians to the One Body of Christ. Praise the Lord. Amen

Compromise the gateway to false unity. When the truth of God's Word is compromised in the name of unity for the pursuit of supernatural power, then be sure that doctrines of demons are close behind. 2 Corinthians 11:3 But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the [a]simplicity that is in Christ. 4 For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted-you may well put up with it!

‘You are about to undergo a time of severe testing’ Wow !! That was surely a true word. Think about what’s come in like a flood since 1977 !! We are now living with the result of 43 years of Godlessness and compromise in the nations and sadly in the church. That's a generation turned/turning away from God, including me. To paraphrase Paul in Corinthians “ and such were some of you. “ I thank you Yeshua that you had your mighty hand on me and that you have graciously and patiently led me through thick and thin since 1993. Praise your Holy name.

Thank God, that what we got in Kansas City kept many firm in the word of God. Godless politicians and leaders of the seven mountains of influence have pulled people away. Praise God, we’re in an awakening now, and praying for 1 billion souls to be saved .

This whole video sounds like a lot of hype and showmanship.
@sgt72 жыл бұрын
But the ordinary people attending did have a profound experience - with God they would assert. I agree though that it takes wisdom to distinguish between hype and a genuine religious experience. And unfortunately emotion became the god at times. I have grown very sceptical of "emotional" religious groups. Reason becomes overlooked. But as I get older I now see there is sometimes a place for ra8sed emotions. A life of faith can be hard and sometimes some encouragement is needed to get 5hings started again. But I agree, hype should not be the way. It should not be too heavily depended on.
@mernigert8 ай бұрын
It was very, very moving and anything but showmanship. There was true unity and humility there. that’s where I discovered the Jews for Jesus and learned how to sing messianic song. We lost our Jewish roots under Constantine. I’m learning about that now.

People certainly can‘t discern good from bad spirits anymore. It‘s not the Holy Spirit giving these people an experience, ist the Spirit of Charismaticism, aka demons. The gift of pentecost was that the Apostles could suddenly speak REAL-WORLD foreign languages in order to preach the gospel, not lose their minds with gibberish emotionalism. The Holy Spirit is received at the Sacrament of Confirmation, not during a rock concert.
