Okay, I should have listened to this band way sooner. Alissa White-Gluz is so talented! I was not expecting the stamina she has during this song. Next time we gotta hear some of her cleans! I really love the way this music video looks and you can see me just mesmerized by this song!
Let me know what you want me to react to next in the comments!
Also... Totally not planned to sing the same song at the beginning and end.... wasn't even filmed on the same day.

Alissa White-Gluz is the third vocalist for Arch Enemy. First was Johan Liiva, second was the great trailblazer Angela Gossow. The transition from Angela to Alissa was unusual. Angela decided to retire from performing but remain the band's business manager. Alissa is a longtime friend of Angela, and passing the torch was done very graciously. Some fans prefer Alissa or Angela, but I think most appreciate both of them. You should check out some of the Angela recordings as well. Nemesis might be the most well-known.

Michael Amott and Daniel Erlandsson (guitarist and drummer) are the heart of this band. They make most of the music. Alissa and Jeff came later but they've been in the band for almost a decade now.(holy shit) I hope to see some songwriting from Jeff on the next album. His live sound is so tight. He's a beast. Alissa is a class act. She is a big fan of Arch Enemy. It was one of the first concerts she ever went to as a teenager. Her mom framed the ticket stub. Alissa used to work as an elementary school art teacher. It explains the costumes, that she makes herself.

Since Arch Enemy is my favourite band I'd recommend War Eternal, The World is Yours or their latest song Deciver Deciver. Three really great songs. Another great songs is Liar Liar with Kamelot and Beginning of the End with Kane Roberts where she sings both with growl and clean vocals. The only song with Arch Enemy and clean vocals is the "ballad" Reason to belive. There you have some songs to check out Alissa and I almost forgot Thank you Pain with The Agonist the band before she joined Arch Enemy. Have a good Day.

Alissa seldom sings with her clear voice at Arch Enemy: ARCH ENEMY - Reason To Believe (OFFICIAL VIDEO) She is the third singer on Arch Enemy. Before that she was with The Angonist. She stands out for her commitment to human rights, animal welfare and environmental protection. Interviews with her don't have to be limited to music. The band became famous with their predecessor Angela. Angela is now in the management of several bands, including Arch Enemy.

Alissa White-Gluz is another in the (more) recent generation of female vocalists who can crank out first class false chord and fry style harsh vocal techniques. As others have pointed out (1) she took over from the trailblazer Angela Gossow, (2) she can (but rarely with Arch Enemy) produce beautiful clean vocals, if you want to see this check out her earlier work with Agonist, (3) Alissa is a (gorgeous, tiny - what is it with pint-sized harsh female vocalists?) a passionate animal-rights advocate, and (4) metal has a great deal of thoughtful, often uplifting lyrics - sure their are bands and songs all about dark themes but a great deal (of the best) metal is much more thought provoking and deep. But as you've noticed, you gots to listen.

Alissa CAN sing clean vocals and she has an AMAZING, BEAUTIFUL clean singing voice! She prefers to sing in extreme vocals because this is what drew her into music in the first place. Alissa was in another band (The Agonist) before Arch Enemy and she did have songs that had some clean vocals in them. Thank You Pain is my personal favorite that she sang for the moment, though I have not heard EVERYTHING they have done yet. The Agonist is still around as a band without Alissa but honestly it's just not the same with a different vocalist. Alissa was also writing and producing their music so the band is ACTUALLY COMPLETELY different without her.

Yay! Charis reacting to Arch Enemy! Welcome to the world of Melodic Death Metal (so named because it uses harsh vocals but frequently has a "clean" melody carried by the guitars). Alissa White-Gluz is our Queen Beast. They do have a new(-ish) single out : check out Deceiver, Deceiver. In the video, Alissa's outfit shows a lot of midriff, and she is totally ripped. Some AE fans prefer their previous vocalist, Angela Gossow. She's currently the band's manager (IIUC), but she was a complete monster as the vocalist, and it's worth checking out some of their older stuff too. Their growling styles are rather different : Alissa uses vocal fry, whereas Angela used false-chord growls. But they're both amazing.
@matthewellis8773
@matthewellis8773 2 жыл бұрын
That's not where melodic death metal comes from. "Harsh vocals with "clean" guitar melodies" could refer to a number of differing genres, not just melodic death metal. Metalcore has those things, doom metal has those things, black metal has those things.... I get what you're saying but it's inaccurate and misleading. Melodic death metal was born from the combination of the melodies of heavy metal bands like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden with death metal in the early 90s. Here's a more accurate definition: death metal (implies harsh vocals) with more emphasis on melody (regular death metal still has melody, its just not the focus).

Thank you Ms Charis for doing Arch! Enjoyed it a lot. I love Arch Enemy because they don't fall "in line" with 99% of the rest with vocals switching between cleans and heavy. It's very difficult for me to enjoy jinjer/spiritbox/etc. The cleans always throw me off. I know this is an impopular view, but I've over about 20 years transitioned to heavy vocals completely as they're the most passionate ones out there. (to me) Cat strangling used to make me feel something but not anymore. 😆🤘 I really like your Lorna Shore reactions. Good stuff!

To answer u when u asked if they were playing for real. obv not they have no electric power there, but as an old drummer myself looking at Daniel, he is playing exactly as he does live on this song, as far as i can see the guitarrists and base are doing same, im not as good as following guitar and base.

Also Alissa’s old band The Agonist has some seriously great tracks as well, and she used her amazing vocal range more in that band ( clean vocals along with harsh vocals).Either the song “Thank You Pain” or “Business Suits and Combat Boots” would be representative of her style with The Agonist, and would make a great topic for another reaction video!

Yes, Charis, one thing you will find with Metal Music is that it's not just about the negative stereotype it got back in the 80s. It did so back then, because it was such a new genre that TPTB (The Greatest Generation and Baby Boomers) were shocked by all these new sounds they were hearing from their children's Boom Boxes that they didn't know how to deal with it. My mother (born in 1942), who was a Music Minor in College, ironically, just hated it when I was jamming to Metallica and other bands back in the 80s. She couldn't understand it as she came from that Big Band and Bebop Era of music. She'd always ask me what I liked about [Heavy Metal], the beat? She said. And I'd be like, "Yeah, mom, I like the beat." 🙄😅 But no, you see here's what people should know about Heavy Metal and that's this...Heavy Metal is just the Blending of Classical Music and The Blues played with electric instruments. The instrumentation is the Classical Music. And the Lyrics are The Blues. But just sung in a more aggressive manner. So just take a look at this song here, "The Eagle Flies Alone" by Arch Enemy. Arch Enemy is considered Melodic Death Metal. Melodic in a sense that there's just enough melody within the riffs, lead solos, and even vocal delivery that aren't just a full on blast of noise. There's lots of bands that do that, and honestly I don't care for them at all. But as you could see here that the melodic parts were quite beautiful, right? The solo section was very operatic in a way too, right? Technical Death Metal is very cool too, in that there are a lot of time and riff changes throughout the songs. The pioneer Death Metal band DEATH (formed 1984) was a highly technical band and you could put aside the vocals and just listen to music and be totally amazed by it. But yeah, most Metal music does carry some very deep psychological or political message within the songs. And before I wrap this up, let me make a comment about "the beat." When compared to Pop Music, especially Euro Pop, Metal is so much more varied in the beat of the songs. You will often get tempo and rhythm changes throughout the songs and that keeps them interesting...in my opinion. With Pop music, the songs will more often than not, have the same beat throughout and the songs get really boring, really quickly. Just listen to these modern Mix Tape type songs and you'll see what I mean. I got into Metal music 35 years ago. For basically all the reasons I mentioned above. Well, and the album cover artwork was much cooler as well... But anyway, hope you continue your journey into the Metal world, and find numerous bands that you really like. Don't know if you've heard of LILIAC before, but they're a young band of 5 siblings that play Rock and Metal in that old school vibe from the early 80s. They cover songs from the 60s thru the 90s, and also write some killer originals. Their first Rock cover was "Wild Thing" from 2015. The band was very young then. But their latest is an original called "Dear Father." Watch those two videos to see where they were and how far they have come, and then watch the 20+ videos in between. It's a rabbit just hole you'll never crawl out of.

Angela Gossow (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO) kzbin.info/www/bejne/n4valoF8jMeYnas and the singer in that band was with another band with Alissa before called Kamelot and it was a band from the USA with two Swedish singers and Alissa. If you wanna do Alissa clean vocals and growls go listen the Kamelot liar liar official video. Kamelot is great in it’s own but this song is a ripper. Also Sacrimony live in 013 Tilburg with Alisa and Elise Ryd from Amaranthe is something I think you would appreciate :)

Your energy makes me smile and your face when Alissa is growling is a picture. Anyway, to hear Alissa with a clean voice this is quite good to watch and its also Nightwish from the evening that Annette was taken ill and the concert could have been cancelled. Luckily it wasnt. The Video is the Denver Debacle. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sHmWZKWErphmn7c After you could also watch how FLoor came to the band which was only a few days later NIGHTWISH -"PLEASE LEARN THE SETLIST IN 48 HOURS" kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJmoqZ6jjLCAe7c Both well worth a watch. Take Care.

Since you like badass females who range into dark harsh sounds, try In This Moment "Big Bad Wolf" (official video). Alissa is a pup compared to Maria in that lol.
@matthewellis8773
@matthewellis8773 2 жыл бұрын
I think Maria has a better clean singing voice than Alissa, but not harsh vocals. Also that's not the ITM song I'd use to show off Maria's vocal skills (song is garbage). Prayers, Forever, or Beautiful Tragedy are much better songs.
