I remember Charity back in the late 50's and 60's as a bushy, sleepy village at the northern end of the Essequibo public road and the gateway to the Pomeroon. I hated the voracious mosquitoes at night but I loved the boat rides down river to places like Marlborough and Martindale. My favorite upriver place was Pickersgill with its smell of freshly sawn timber and very few if any mosquitoes at night. Oh for those good old days !!
