Hi JT. Do you subscribe to Brendon Snyder's channel? I was just watching him chatting with Chris Propfe after they'd been record shopping together. Really enjoyable .... That Linda Thompson album is a class record. I wish I'd bought it 20 years ago now. The two Sparks and Richard & Linda Thompson records are all-time favourites of mine too.

Been having a bit more luck recently in charity shops aswell, I love seeing a big box as most if the time it means there should be variety!

Hi Jamie. Still struggling with vinyl. I was in a charity shop today and they had a few battered-looking Queen LPs in a locked cabinet for £15 each! Condition is everything. All the best, Carl
@jamiespinks31792 жыл бұрын
@@carltweed942 that's what does get annoying is seeing average shape desirable lps which would be more worthwhile being put out for a couple of £ and raise some donatiom rather than sit there and not make a donation for the charity. has always made wonder as yes you want the most but sometimes things need to be priced to sell !

@@jamiespinks3179 If they had to buy their stock, rather than relying on donations, most of them would have gone out of business years ago.

Larks Tongue was my first step into the dark lords terrain called ‘Prog’ about 15 years ago! (Although I don’t consider it Prog) I really love it. Particulaly the opening instrumental. Never owned that Richard & Linda Thomson. Must give it a listen. Sparks always classic. No 1 In Heaven will always be my favourite album. Great stuff Carl.

Hi Harris. I hope everything is good with you. I'd never heard all of 'Larks' Tongues In Aspic' before. I really liked it, apart from Wetton's vocals. It's certainly progressive, but the term prog rock (like most terms used to describe music) is meaningless. 'I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight' is a favourite of mine. Cheers, Carl

I really like Larks' Tongues, but you comments on the vocals are interesting. Calexico is such a good band, and Sparks - that's a classic. Richard and Linda Thompson is a truly amazing album. I agree that everyone should have it.

Hi Brian. Maybe I'm a bit unfair towards John Wetton. I have the same problem with Greg Lake's vocals too. Some of the musical ideas King Crimson were coming up with were years ahead of everyone else. You can see why Bill Bruford wanted to get involved ... I'm gradually picking up Calexico CDs, and really enjoying them ... Sparks are still producing interesting music ... I'm pleased you know 'I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight'. It's so perfect.

Great stack of CDs! I think Copia by Eluvium along with the Linda Thompson albums are the gems of the lot.

Hi Russ. Eluvium was a real surprise. I wasn't expecting such beautiful piano music. I adore Linda Thompson's voice; I wish I'd heard this album when it first came out 20 years ago. Thanks for commenting.

Hello Carl l just listened to Peter the painter lain Dury magic Carl, have you heard man with no face.
@carltweed9422 жыл бұрын
'The Man With No Face' is a bit bland for me. 'Peter the Painter' is better; more closer to the classic Blockheads sound.

Those are some really nice finds. It's pretty sad that not alot of people show cd's in the VC.

Hi Stephan. When they do show CDs, they are often very apologetic about it, with comments like "I've only got this on CD". I like vinyl, but I'm not going to pass up 'Larks' Tongues In Aspic', for example, for 25 pence. You can build up a varied collection for a few quid a month. Thanks for commenting, Carl

Either way.. the Ian Dury is interesting.. you are showing these Cd's nicely.. very clear, and close, nice work on this detail. Beachwood Sparks I like, and I love Mapache.. their young friends. Calexico is so creative. Mapache does some Bolero tunes, as well ( Mexico ).. check it out ! Their 1st LP is their best. .

Hey JT. Ian Dury sets the bar so incredibly high with his best writing. But, as you say, '4000 Weeks Holiday' is still interesting ... I interviewed Beachwood Sparks when they came over to the UK the first time. I think I probably mentioned that to you before. They were so excited over the fact I'd interviewed Gene Clark ... I don't know Mapache. I must look into them. Name noted ... Thanks for the kind words of support JT.

@@carltweed942 I do remember now, I do love Mapache.. they are part of another wave of country rock influenced bands out of LA. They are also in a Grateful Dead cover band.. " Grateful Shread".. that is my favorite cover band of the Dead.

There is as much an art of shelf digging CDs as there is vinyl. Lots to admire particularly the Hispanic/Arabic/flamenco one.
@carltweed9422 жыл бұрын
Hi Martin. Crate-digging sounds so much more glamorous, as you tend to think of ridiculously cool DJs like Gilles Patterson finding forgotten gems. Shelf-digging may be less glamorous, but I've found some jaw-dropping CDs over the years ... The Radio Tarifa CD is excellent. I've got two or three CDs by them. I'm not sure if they're still going. Their record label World Circuit is worth looking out for.

@@carltweed942 'ridiculously' cool lol. In my mind London - centric in reality geeks they always are. I'm not that I've got far too many skeletons in the closet. From mid 80s I bought EVERY smash hits for years and didn't really know who The Smiths et all were even when they were on the cover. I've probably found, discovered as many new bands via CD I maybe wrong but certainly loads. I'd say I 'defected' to CDs about 1998 (ish) mostly. Alot because of availability not just cost.

@@Thevinylscavenger Remembering you'd met Johnny Trunk, I was going to mention him or Andy Votel. God knows why I went with Gilles Patterson (is that his name? Peterson?) ... I'm a proud CD geek. I hope you kept those 'Smash Hits'.

Hello Carl, I am missing out on Sparks whose discography I am interested in collecting. Lots new here for me, though. The only album I currently own of those shown is the Cult's Love album.

Hi Rachel. It's always a mixed bag when I pick stuff up at charity shops. If you've not heard 'I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight' by Richard and Linda Thompson, it's a magical record in my opinion ... 'Kimono My House' is a good place to start with Sparks. I'll see you on your live stream again soon.
