Incredible Dr Strangely find I’m jealous lol. I managed to recently find the first pressing of Full Circle by Forest. I nearly gasped when I saw it and I’m surprised fellow pickers missed it because it’s one of the most psychedelic looking album covers I’ve ever seen lol. Happy digging 👍
@statictraveller2 жыл бұрын
Wow! Well done on the Forest album. I am sadly missing both their albums. Apologies for the huge delay in answering. Notifications of comments seem to be quite sporadic. I only saw this because I received a notification that someone else had commented on this video this morning. And his was a lot less interesting! 😉

Interesting clutch of albums there, Alan. I got the Traffic album in my local charity shop a few years ago. Since then there's been a drought in vinyl. You seem to have a Midas touch when it comes to such things.
@statictraveller2 жыл бұрын
Believe me, I put in the hours- it's becoming almost impossible to find things since the lockdown. People are getting savvy to their potential value, so whoever sees them first takes the lot. That's on the very few occasions anyone actually donates them anymore. I think the interest amongst the young hasn't helped either. Collections are probably being handed down- which is no bad thing if you're the recipient, of course!

Incredible, you've done it again. In my experience with records that look clean but play with crackle, give it a good clean. I know you said you hadn't but it should clear it up some. A good wet vacuum clean if you can. German Vertigo is where it's at! I have Fairfield Parlour on that label and it's lovely. Take care Alan!
@statictraveller2 жыл бұрын
Cheers Dom. I don't possess a vacuum, but I will add it to the list of the three or four records that I want to try out first, if I ever get hold of one. Most German records are pressed superbly. I have a copy of Deep Purple's 'Book Of Taliesin' which is staggering in its clarity. Fairfield Parlour has been on my wants list for years. Funnily enough, I never considered the German option....

I like that Savoy Brown, but my opinion is also based on how cheap they are for a fun album. $4 to $12 depending on condition. That being said, their 60s albums are definitely better. After 72ish the band tapers off drastically.
@statictraveller2 жыл бұрын
@@big_burly_bro Over here, the Brown is a £50+ LP.... Gulp. I heard a late acoustic album by them... Not great. It seems most 60s bands tapered off drastically in the 70s... They should have copied the example of The Beatles. Knock it on the head before you reach the point of absolute creative nadir, from whence there is no return.... Although some could argue Let It Be fulfilled that criteria.

You've been hitting that charity shop at the back of Mr Benns' costume shop again Alan..I was streaming that Dr Strangely Strange album just last week, as I'd never heard it before..it definitely has its moments but it didn't blow me away, remarkable find all the same. I've been busy clearing stuff out of the attic this week to make way for some new hi fi gear, so haven't got around to replying to your latest thread..I intend to remedy that this weekend.

And I would have put money on you mentioning the John Martyn... Yes, the Strange LP definitely has its moments. It is more of a grower- there's a lot going on in places. new hi-fi gear? Sounds like the VC will be clamouring for a room tour....

I got there and left just before you arrived Alan. I would have taken that lot that you showed but my arms were full with the box of Bob Dylan acetate discs that was there. I thought they wanted 50p each disc, but it turned out they meant 50p for the lot. :-)

I like how you're brutally honest about the records you find. I would have been happy to find Savoy Brown and Dr Strangely Strange in a charity shop, even though I'm certainly not a fan of either band. Actually, I'd be happy to find any half-decent records in a charity shop. I'm even beginning to struggle finding CDs. A few of my regular haunts have stopped stocking CDs.
@statictraveller2 жыл бұрын
I hear you Carl. It has been incredibly difficult to find records in charity shops since the lockdown. People are not donating them. If they do get donated, the first person who sees them buys the lot. Sadly, it's all about selling and greed these days. There are quite a few shops in my area which have stopped selling CDs and DVDs- some have stopped records as well...
@carltweed9422 жыл бұрын
@@statictraveller I don't understand why charity shops are starting to be so picky. The reason they may be struggling to sell DVDs, CDs and records is because they don't sort out the rubbish before it hits the shelves. They are losing income, at a time when they need it more than ever ... By the way, did you know you were nominated for a VC Award at Maria Wesley's channel? I was just watching the video ... I'm off to a couple of charity shops now. Take care, Carl

Another fantastic one of your charity shop adventures Alan - I really must visit the ones you frequent some time if all this stuff is on offer. That Red Flower of Tachai sleeve is beautiful. You wouldn't see those Chinese 10"s in my local Oxfam I dont think. That's one of the things that puts me off a lot of metal - that obsession with the aesthetics of death/blackness/blood etc. - its been done to death. That Dr Strangly Strange I've never heard of until you showed it on Instagram - reckon I should give it a try.
