Abbott picked up on it much quicker than those who had known them for years. I loved that he was a big softie and romantic. I'll never forget when in the first season they had a dance together 'just for fun', but it looked so intimate with Lisbon's head on Jane's shoulder. That should have tipped us off right away.

To be fair, the others watched the slow burn, Abbott entered the scene as it was becoming possible. From Theresa putting herself in his way for Jane, to Patrick, having completed his quest, getting a little more aware of the rest of the world and Theresa discovering that she didn't like not having Jane around. Things were coming to a head and he was paying attention to them anyway.

For me, they were meant to be together from the very first season! Only Lisbon could soothe the tormented soul of Patrick after what he had gone through during the Red John period. Besides all the wittiness and intellect, he always yearned for companionship, and Teresa stood with him like a rock-solid wall through all the ups and downs. Undoubtedly, they are my favorite on-screen couple...I would have been devastated if there wasn't a happy ending to The Mentalist. 😁

Jane would never go for it. It only became an actual possibility after RJ was dead. Before, it would have simply put a gigantic bullseye on Lisbon's back. RJ even abducted her, but as a colleague. He knew Lisbon was important to Jane, but not how much. He only saw them live once, literally in the (spoiler alert) 2nd episode, so very early in their friendship. Even then, in the pilot episode you see that Jane is warming up to Lisbon and is trying to show he cares. He knows he is not behaving like a normal person and tries to make himself be understood. As someone else said, one of Jane's love languages is gifts and the first thing he gifts is a frog to Lisbon, to make her laugh.

I feel Jane and Lisbon had one of the best slow burn romances on TV. Both growing together and apart, learning to trust and rely on each other, and going above and beyond. As this video shows, a handful of people knew there was something more given the lengths both would go to protect the other. From Lisbon having to "threaten" Bosco with revealing a deep secret despite her respect for him to get Jane out of prison to Jane trying to get Lisbon her job back in season 2 and 4 then later wanting her to have an FBI job offer in season 6. I think Rigsby, Van Pelt, Bosco, Hightower, and others knowing early on was an interesting hint at how much they observed the strong connection Jane and Lisbon had. Abbott ending up being the biggest shipper was icing on the cake! There are little hints here and there, but Jane and Lisbon had to grow and overcome their own challenges, feelings, and the conflict between them before they could come together. I think the fact that Jane truly wanted her to be happy, even with Pike, towards the end of season 6 said a lot about how much he loved her. Even willing to let her go if it was too late between them. Her giving up Pike to give things a try with Jane says a lot about her own deep love for the chaotic but fiercely loyal blonde. My only wish is that we could have had 21 or 22 episodes of season 7 to explore things a bit more, but what we got was good for a solid ending that there will be challenges and tough times, but we must "always look on the bright side" as Jane says to Lisbon.

I just love so much the mentalist after red john. season 6 is ​​kind of boring, but necessary. Despite missing the CBI`s scenario, Riggs and Van Pelt, Season 7 is a delight to watch and I LOVE Abbott. He is very charismatic and funny. I loved Vega so much and Wylie too. And mostly, the lightness of Jane's relationship with Lisbon makes my heart melt. Whenever I'm out of something new to watch, I watch the seventh season again.

Abbott is rude and inconsiderate. I think it would be more realistic to refuse to work for him. It started when we first saw him. In arriving at CBI he told everyone to stop working before introducing himself or showing his court papers. He should have gone to Lisbon, shown the papers and had her tell people they were now under FBI control.

Just finished the series and now I don't know what to do with myself. I am so glad he got a happy ending! Someone was "reading" Lisbon in front of Jane "you're a little in love with Jane" (or something like that) and neither one acknowledged the comment to confirm or deny which I loved. They just pretended he didn't say that. Best Lisbon/Jane moments The final scene when she tells him she's pregnant. "Will you marry me," scene. Him getting on the plane to say I love you. So romantic! She apologizes to the woman beside her and the woman said, "Honey, every woman on this plane wants to be you." (Yeah, they do). She shows up to at airport security to tell him she loves him too. He pulled her chair towards him and told her it was okay that she invited her brothers to the wedding. He's so tender towards her and knows her so well. When they sang over a dead body. Remember that? It was Kansas City. It was funny. Before they got together. Another before - she walks in, puts her purse down, takes off her jacket, he picks up her jacket while telling her that they're going out, puts it back on her, pulls her hair out from her jacket, and picks up her purse - it was almost one move. Before - him frantic over getting water - so he could wash the blood off her face. Funniest Mentalist moment... Lisbon and Cho going wedding dress shopping. I would not have thought Cho would be into that but turned out he knew what he was doing. Also, Cho smiled more in the last episode than he did throughout the entire series.
