Remember how delusional people were for a while saying that this era had the "most skilled" players doing things "we've never seen before"? Now the truth is coming out exposing just how lackluster today's NBA is. Ratings wouldn't be going down if the product was good. For the longest these young cats were calling us 'old heads' and that we were hating and just holding on to nostalgia. Yes, we do miss the NBA from the 90's and early 2000's, but today's product is overall NOT GOOD. JJ is absolutely correct though. Almost all of the media coverage around the NBA is negative. The NFL literally mandates that the media not cover their league in a negative light, so they don't have this problem. If all you ever hear from talking heads on TV is that the NBA is trash then why would anyone ever actually watch the game. The Inside the NBA guys are funny, but they have no clue what they're talking about most of the time because they don't actually watch or follow the league that they're covering which is an embarrassment.

But fans do not need to 'believe', they can see the product for themselves at any time! And when they do, they see nothing but teams running the same playstyle: same plays, same motions, same strategies, all essentially to have the same 3-point shooting barrage. It's boring, it's mundane, it's repetitive, and it's predictable. This is coming from someone who watched every single game of the 2014-2015 Lakers where we had Lin, Boozer, Sacre, Kelly, Ellington, Price, Hill etc. These days I have to almost will myself into watching a full Lakers game. I used to love Barkley as a player, even with his 10 dribble back to the basket iso's. He's been funny as a commentator but this rant just shows how insecure and immature he still is. It's disgusting to see the Heroes of old shit on the current generation/game while their era/career also clearly had issues. I love the 90s/00s era but it was far from perfect (illegal defence making it a iso heavy game, 30+ mid range jumpers per team at sub 40% efficiency, more free throws than we have in todays game). Their negative talk, just to stay relevant, is disappointing.

@@Zeke47 It’s from a viewership aspect. Watching teams run 5 out and literally just drive and kick sucks. Same goes for the tired ass 2 man game with a super high pick and roll that a lot of teams do. In most half court offenses in this league there’s a lot of standing. Quick 3s early in the possession are also encouraged by metrics. We have access to some of the most unique and skilled individuals to ever play this game, but imo, similarity and a lack of creativity in coaching is limiting the entertainment factor of it. The Knicks and Thunder played maybe the most entertaining game I’ve seen all season last night, and both teams were described as playing more “old school” basketball. There was ball movement, physical defense, and creative scoring in the mid range and at the cup (shoutout SGA). Speaking for myself here, but maybe some other ball fans agree. I still love this game, I just would like more variance team to team.
