Charles tormented Diana with his affairs (no mention of Kanga in the Crown). He did so because he was cruel, selfish and petulant. He wanted to hurt Diana who was so loved by the people. Never did he think that the mousy teen that he proposed to had such a strong personality and her empathy for those less fortunate would make her the Queen of People’s Hearts.

Their story was portrayed in a way I’d never seen it done before, and the pain it evoked in me was beyond anything caused by other TV plot lines. I know it’s silly, but I just wished they’d gotten along - well, that Charles hadn’t been such a vile, selfish person, who we now unfortunately have to accept as our future king. Diana deserved so much better, and I guess the primary reason I wish she and Charles had gotten along, though she was perfectly capable of independence, was that it would have likely meant she wouldn’t have met her end the tragic way she did.

The best thing about the Crown is it made a whole new generation fall in love with Princess Diana. Decades have passed, but pathetic Charles and his cow will never be free of her. It's as they deserve. We say that the best revenge is living well. Diana didn't get to live long, but she made the most out of her life, and the memory of her will continue haunting everyone who did her wrong.

There was no way he could defend what he wanted. From the time he was born he would have been raised in the shadow of Edward’s abdication, been told he cannot try to fight duty and tradition. He could never defend what he wanted without becoming another Edward. If he had fought his way to marrying Camilla, the media, the family, even regular citizens, would have blamed him and insulted him for marrying an unsuitable woman.

Charles and Diana’s story should be an example that people should be free to marry who they want, because when you force two incompatible people together, the inevitable ending is going to be tragic. Marriages even with people who like each other and have things in common still fall apart, so how was a marriage between two people who have nothing in common possibly end well. The rules and restrictions of the monarchy in so many ways ruined both Charles and Diana. They were two people who shouldn’t have gotten married, who both needed different kinds of people. They were both broken people who needed support that neither could truly ever give the other. And their lack of common interests just widened the gap. It is undoubtedly true that if both Charles and Diana hadn’t been constricted by the monarchy, they would both have been alive and happy. They may have hurt each other, but ultimately the monarchy hurt them both.
