Dick, did you know Grodin would be like this? This was before he started on Carson and Letterman. He loved being confrontational with them.

Grodin was a very erudite, very charming and sincere individual. Always a fascinating guest on any show I've seen him on.

I LOVED Charles Grodin. The man was brilliant. His books are a delight. "It Would Be So Nice If You Weren't Here" had me on the floor laughing.

The early 80's somehow seem so delightfully languid. Wish we could enjoy that more, these days

We didn't have access to the internet. More importantly in the 70's we had 3 major TV Channels with a total of maybe 7 channels that went of the air at 1am i think it was 1am. Cable was brand new. Anyways it was "the 80s" just the beginning of non-stop information. The early 80s in NW Indiana ( my perception ) were depressing former steel mill workers were applying for jobs at grocery stores.

Languid. Its been years since I've been able to use that word in a sentence. Well done.

@@AhPhoey Thanks -- for my 10th birthday, I was gifted a Random House Collegiate Dictionary. (Unlike our GIANT Webster's dictionary, this one did NOT skip directly from "fuchsia" to "fucoid") Inside the cover, it bore the inscription: "One must have the words, in this life." I took those words very much to heart.

Acting like Grodin is the most frustrating moment ever the recipient 😂 BTW Seinfeld especially Larry David and Alexander's Costanza bits are nicked straight from Grodin's bits...this cloying sort of Yiddish banter...word salad 😂

Is this channel ever going to show Dick Cavett shows where he interviews Jackie Gleason and/or Art Carney? I don’t have the Decades channel.

have nothing against the other celebs that were on this show but is this channel ever going to show the Dick Cavett shows where he interviews Jackie Gleason or Art Carney? How about any Honeymooners actors that were part of the main cast? These are rarities much like all of these.

Cavett has a selective sense of humor - a sense of humor is of course selective in itself, but anywho. Grodin is good, however, he’s no Groucho, or Rickles. When I die, The Dick Cavett Show will be the only thing I’ll remember from this place. Perhaps not all episodes, but some.
@rogerparis
@rogerparis 3 жыл бұрын
He’s not trying to be Groucho or Rickles. Grodin, like the two you mentioned was a unique personality, not in competition with anyone else.
@ubet6691
@ubet6691 3 жыл бұрын
@@rogerparis You’re right, of course. It’s not a competition. Still, there are levels to the kind of ’goodness’ that I have in mind. Cavett seems a little bored here, don’t you think? He doesn’t seem particularly amused by the jokes. Grodin was special for sure. I’m not sure he was unique.
