Well, thank you for that Charles but did you not know a former apprentice of Tompion, A Michael Knight went on to work for the master clock maker and made clocks for Tompion and Daniel Quare , He made month and yearly going longcase clocks for Quare and made several clocks for Tompion of which they were signed by Tompion but never came into contact with Tompion. It is my considered opinion that Michael Knight was a much better clock maker than Tompion. Knight`s clocks are now coming into the market and are selling for high prices. Unfortunately Michael Knight was afraid of the publicity that a high prestige clock maker would generate and shunned the limelight, There is little known about Knight and to get any info about him takes a shovel and pick to unearth anything at all about him, Such a shame as he was worthy of much high esteem. I acquired a Michael Knight dial and movement a year or two ago when there was an opening on Ebay for a garage floor of miscellaneous clocks and movements which i won and drove down to Weston-Super-Mare to fill my Grand Cherokee with many grand clocks in various orders of distress and disrepair. I sold off the items that i had no interest in and ended up with several Dials and movements completely free of charge. Its the only way to go. When i came across the Michael Knight movement i found a movement that i had never seen the likes of before. I can only say that the quality shone out like a bright light in the darkness of a local storm. It ticks away in my living room as if it were a brand new clock, and will be with me in that position to the day i die...
