Such a thoroughly expressive work, dancing around the edges of abstract expressionism but without the… angst. Marvelously interpreted. Virtuosity of musically.

My goodness - my favorite of his violin/piano sonatas - performed to absolute perfection.

I love this performance. I'm meditating when appropriate or I'm tapping my toes when appropriate or I'm just plain impressed by the composition. Ty for the note.

Your comment garnered so many up votes I had to have Google translate it for me into English. Fingers crossed, it's still understandable … There is something that enchants me in those enlightened of the "first" American nation, before it became an empire, innocence latent in its ideals. In a way, Ives' music breathes that "innocence." When I told him about it, one of my old Vermont friends, whose gaze harbored the charm of those horizons, suggested years ago to read Thoreau carefully and listen to Charles Ives carefully if he wanted to deepen the spirit of the American Northeast. For a long time I thought that this parallelism was the result of my partner's fantasy and his excessive attachment to the native country, but, as I went into Thoreau's diaries, I realized that that force emanating from these had to do with the that kept many of the musician's works. Moreover, in a paragraph of the newspapers that he wrote in Walden about writing, I glimpsed the architecture that predominates in the composer's sonatas. «Prodigal phrases, arranged as pebbles on the page, from one side to the other, and through, which contain the seed of other phrases, and not mere repetition, but creation». Prodigious metaphor. Not bad for a computer translation algorithm. ;¬)

i'm now listening it the fifth time. in my opinion this sonata absolutely belongs to the masterpieces of the 20th century like fauré's second one op.108, debussy's or ravel's sonata....i'm very excited to discover the other 3 sonatas by ives...

I am always very proud to be also American because of this composer. A total individual born in 1974 and was an initiator of the modern as much as Debussy, Stravinsky and Bartok.

What an intense and wonderful sonata this is, from the first bar to the last. The musical dialogue between the Violin and Piano is equal to Delius (although nothing like it). A masterpiece.

The sonatas have been blessed with several magnificent performances on record, from the old Druian/Sims set to the more recent Fulkerson/Sannon release - the latter I find most convincing in a wonderfully manic way. The Fain sonatas I have heard (2 and 3) are beautiful.

The fiddling stamps work MADE IN AMERICA. The composition is otherwise cosmopolitan and the recording is remarkably as clear as a bell.

*****"I like them more than a hangover". hahaha, u r funny! i thought so though your avatar-dog is quite headless... i tell you a funny story: when i was in spain with my pug, (in german we call the dogbreed "mops"), i saw a young girl who also had a pug. so i asked her (for i didn't know the spanish word): "perdón, una pregunta: ?cómo se llama esta raza en español?" the girl looked at me if i was an alien, then she answered: "perro."

It should be titled, Sonata for Piano & Violin. That piano part is more difficult than the violin part.
