I think it started in Mario’s Game Gallery in ‘95. He didn’t have a voice in the first typing game, but in typing 2 he had a voice though.

Much like how Kevin Conroy (RIP) is Batman & Mark Hamill is Joker, Charles Martinet is Mario he set the foundation for how mario sounds along with 5 other characters! His work will live on for an incredibly long time. I didnt notice that Charles wasn't the voice of mario in the wonder trailer either. I think it would make economic sense for the new VA to voice multiple characters as a way to save on cost, wouldn't be shocked if that was a requirement when auditioning but that's just me speculating. Charles not being the voice of mario in the mario movie makes a little bit sense now as it be a huge commitment, plus you know the whole star power thing they had with the cast of the movie.

Peter Cullen and frank walker ben voices for prim and Megatron for almost forty years. Along whit other characters from different shows As well. Charles is nowhere on the level of those guys.

I think the new voice actor will be announced in the Charles celebration video from Nintendo, kinda as a “passing the mario hat” kind of thing. It’s gonna be hard knowing that Charles isn’t Mario anymore, but it’s nice that his replacement is nearly spot on.

IT's sad to see a childhood hero retire, but i do think its reassurring they they got someone that sounded alot like charles for mario wonder and didn't decide to go "Chris pratt the hack is voicing him now in the games" Yeah i thought the movie is alright but chris pratt's mario is still something people were way to nice about. At least at least we have a sound alike for the games

Have they said if they're going to replace him with a different voice actor? I feel like they have enough voice clips of Charles to just end up using an AI for his voice to make Mario's voice. Maybe thats what they mean by Charles being an 'Ambassador'
