This is a commission that I've recently finished up. It's a "quirky" performance from Charles Mingus of this classic tune. It's very free rhythmically and I've written it out in a way that sticks to the form of the original. That's why in the bridge, for example, there might be two 2/4 bars in a row, and you might wonder why I didn't just write a 4/4 bar. It's because I think it's important to show the original form. Very nice; full of Mingus-ness, squeezed in between 'The Black Saint And The Sinner Lady' and 'Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus;. It really was a fertile period for him. (Ellington did perform this tune often , but did not write it; that honour goes to Bassman/Washington)

Great work! I love this album. Mingus's lack of piano technique forces him into some really interesting ideas that probably wouldn't occur to more polished players. I've always avoided transcribing anything from this album because it's so inherently un-notatable, but you've done an excellent job of making it not just correct but also readable.
