What about a transcription from the most overlooked jazz pianist of all time: Paul Bley

so so brilliant !.. here Chick delivers a real theme + variations at a classical level, but it's improvization !.. wow.. thanks to Michael for giving us access to this sheer beauty 😊

I so love this. There's so much comfort in that G pedal around the bird sounds. And it's G, the brightest sounding of all tones. That same one from Goldberg Variations. Yes that's an anachronistic mistake. Still: bliss.

Dear Michael, I am so grateful for the Masterwork you do with transcriptions that is so precious and makes me play beautiful pieces that I could otherwise only listen to. Thank you so much for all you continue to do! Just a note, if I can, on this piece that I am learning in these days. I think that at bar 55 ( 1:45 ) the last note of the left hand is an F not an E. With all the respect and gratitude that I can. Thank you

0:21 that key change is mystifying to me. He jumps from the biii minor passing chord (Dm) up a min3rd to the ii half-dim (Fm7b5) of the new key, modulating from Bmaj to Ebmaj. Its such a strange modulation on paper and a strange place to put it but it works so seamlessly that you hardly even notice theres a key change at all. The modualtions at the end are also fantastic.

I can hear the song but I can't hear where the lyrics are supposed to go? 🙁

Beautifully scored and wonderfully played. I would probably score with one flat and mark the whole as G Dorian (as it seems to gravitate towards a G tonality) so that it was the E flats rather than the E naturals that needed accidental marks.

People are so outraged with "surprisingly hip" LOL. Looks like E lydian and Eb minor over C minor at 0m50, extraordinary!

I always thought little by little had this interesting melody and this rendition really goes in depth with it. It's my favorite Radiohead song for a reason

Great solo, but isn't the word spelled "Claus"?

Love how that opening motif is in rhythm to the words “christmas is coming.” Text setting with no text!

To ***paraphrase*** Chico in A Night at the Opera, ‘There ain’t no Santa Clause’.
I imagine this was probably the most cocktail friendly they got him to play. "Ok brad! That was a great solo, but could you be a little less incredible? Like suck a little more?just so people don’t immediately go back to Michael Buble alright, great, thanks!"

Your transcription work is excellent! And it is amazing to me how much better I hear what Jarrett is doing when I can 'see it coming' in the video. Thanks!

Had never heard this version, and I think it's stunning - it has more improvised elements than the others I've heard.

I'm so burnt out on this tune. I can't even listen. OK, he is good with it. I just can't take it any more. I don't want to play this tune. Please do not request this song. Have Ben Franklin ready if you want me to play this stupid song.

you will be OK. Just relax and pretend you never heard Bud Powell. Or Keith Jarrett. Because you didn't.

Fascinating to hear this and follow the transcription after getting to know the Tokyo 1984 version (which I still prefer though).

The best to me remains the one from La Scala. Still, this is unmatched - try to think of one pianist able to bring together the dynamics, the harmonics, the inventivity, the voicings, all while remain pretty close to the original.
