Meeting Charles Morgan was an utter delight, you see I've had the dubious pleasure of meeting hundreds of motor industry executives over the years. Engineers, designers, marketing peeps and, of course, PRs have all shared a dinner and/or a cheeky drink after a hard day at a motor show or launch. It's rare that (PRs aside) I find myself quite so taken with them as I was with Charles Morgan.
Morgan, who has been involved in the family business since 1985, is a very well to do sort of chap. Where most would expect a car company boss to be a stern type, I found a man with a boyish grin and a glint in his eye. Keen to natter about the industry and Morgan's place in it (often with candour), I got the impression that despite being born with petrol seeping through every pore he's ready to take on the world only as a Brit can -- with a grin and a can do attitude.
His presence on Twitter confirms that he's got a sense of humour -- a bonus -- but also keeping an eye on the future. While sat in his office (which he fondly calls 'the sauna' because it's bloody hot) he fondly remembers conversations with his father about moving the brand into the 20th Century with a bonded aluminium chassis -- essentially gluing bits of aluminium together. He was tickled by his fathers negative take on pritt sticking a car together yet persevered.
Being one of the 'early adopters' of magnesium chassis bonding is a point of pride for Morgan -- his cars may look ye olde worlde but have the strongest, most advanced underpinnings available.
When we spoke to Morgan about his own Aeromax his face seemed to light up. His car, one percent of the world's production run, is his daily driver. He freely admits to using it for the weekly shop and that he loves the attention it gets. He knows he's sitting on a thing of beauty and that only the hardiest of chaps can ignore its beauty.
The Aeromax's story is the one we're telling today, but it's the man behind it who makes it so special. So, audience, here's to Charles Morgan, he's the one who sits in his sauna and helps create some of the finest cars in the world. All the time with a smile on his face. And you can't beat that, can you?

This chap seems to be a very humble guy. Not pretentious at all and very open. Quite refreshing. I can imagine the young designer was jumping for joy when he got called in. Fantastic story. Incidentally a 200k price point would dampen a lot of inspiration in my view. It's important to know Beauty and craftsmanship are just a few steps up a ladder and not just the domain of the super rich. Ford would have been proud I think that Morgan kept it real and that is why they are loved.

If the Morgan Aero was parked next to a Ferrari or Lambo, you can be sure this Morgan would be the first car people would walk over and look at! The 1930s Art Deco look is just so cool. The emphasis on light weight is also an overlooked big plus.

My favorite Morgan is the 3 wheeler, but this one is gorgeous too, the Wiesmann is amazing as well, these cars look like they came straight out of some film noir movie or comic, if I ever get one of these cars the first thing I'll do is drive around town on a rainy night, playing Ulver's "Perdition City"

I could never afford a Morgan Aeromax but i do admire Mr. Morgan greatly and think that what was done to him was disgraceful. i especially think that his comment about committing to 100 and then being able to make 300, but deciding against it, was an indication of the kind of integrity so missing from many organisations. we miss you Charles and wish you were back.

really interested to see who they try to 'replace' Charles Morgan with (as family representative and brand ambassador). I can't see how they can fill his shoes to be honest; he has the family name, he's incredibly passionate and a bit of a dandy(not a bad thing in this case) and people do warm to him. I cd be wrong but my feeling is the trad Morgan buyer as well as the middle eastern/chinese/russian buyer cd relate to him (the way it needs to be nowadays) - this alone surely helped sell a good few cars. Just what did he do to get sacked ?!

He really gets it, huh? Light weight makes a car fun. The engine shouldn't be over the front wheels. The car shouldn't inspire envy. What surprised me the most is that whenever I see cars that appear to have more aesthetics than engineering, I expect the creators to have the personalities of fashion designers. Morgan seems like a really nice car guy, though.

They need to build 500,000 of these every year for 6 years. That way you have spare parts for some time. Here in America, they crash stuff at alarming rates. Plus fires,hurricanes, tornadoes, vandals,and floods. That 1st 500,000 cars would be used up quickly.

Can we charge 100,000 dollars for a car?!? There are cars in the million dollar range that don’t look half as good or have a quarter of the meaning or history. These cars are works of art, and the only mass production vehicle that even comes close is the Alfa Romeo 8C. But I would argue these are still better.
