Comme disait ma maman, Chopin est le poète du piano et votre sensibilité rend justice à cette poésie. Votre émotion est palpable et votre jeu sublime! Vous êtes extraordinaire et vous écouter est un pur ravissement!

I just heard him interpret Chopin's Nocturne No. 17 in B major in way I never imagined possible on CBC radio, it was sublime. That is one of my favorite things about music, classical or otherwise -- when you can take a song that you've heard many times, and transform it simply by playing it in a different way.

Just...thank you Charles Richard Hamelin. It touches my heart.

Charles, with your great talent and those hands of yours, I've got to admit that this so special Nocturne is a piece of heaven on earth. Thanks a million for creating and maintaining such joy. Bravissimo and may God bless and keep you in His love for ever.

A little slow with the tempo, for my tastes, but it is played withe great intelligence and sensitivity.
@gwatts128 жыл бұрын
David Henson I agree. Slow means the beautiful cohesion of the piece just isn't there for me.
@Petermaguire36845 жыл бұрын
it's been played slower, listen to Kate Liu's version. It's Andante. It's a Nocturne.

What I would like to know.. is why the winner Cho was aloud to play on a Steinway, and Charles on a Yamaha.. could, would have that made a difference?
@syp23269 жыл бұрын
the players can choose
@UmiandFrenchHorn8 жыл бұрын
I think they were allowed to choose between a Steinway and a Yamaha.

+秦悠生 During the preliminaries there were only those two available. But before the main competition in October they could choose among Steinway, Yamaha, Kawai and Fazioli.
@NoahJohnson18108 жыл бұрын
What happened with the Faz? Only one person chose it and it didn't sound very good. As opposed to 2010, everybody was playing on Fazioli.

anyone who plays this piece would know, and yes he played a wrong note. The best pianists in the world are human.
@b-louprint5 жыл бұрын
Egg MCMUFFIN he did not play a d natural... he just ornamented the phrase with a neighboring tone (e natural) . Is that what Chopin originally wrote? no, but i think its definitely forgivable if he played a d natural everyone would have heard that, this piece is in b major

Comparing this to Horowitz’ interpretation illustrates to me so clearly how well Charles plays it. In my opinion Horowitz’ interpretation is so mechanical and I would probably prefer to listen to a lot of amateur pianists playing this piece to his
@Petermaguire36845 жыл бұрын
this performance is very thorough but a bit lifeless, maybe because of the quick tempo he decided to play it. I don't feel the same emotion as Kate Liu, or Horowitz. That wrong note round 2 mins is sore to my ear.
@b-louprint5 жыл бұрын
peter maguire he played an e natural. yes its not what chopin wrote. but in the score the harmony is F# seven, which is includes e natural. im having a hard time understanding what is sore to your ear. you read someone elses youtube comment and act like an acclaimed music critic
