the episode put a smile on my face thank you for showing such detail in the exhibit...the narrative was key. Watching Sarah enjoy the moment also allows us to "tag" along. Your becoming the "Curators of History" with each episode. Thanks guys.

Really enjoyed it Jeff i was raised looking at Charlie brown when I was a kid in England. Its another great historic American cartoon. Sarah seemed to enjoy going there she's comical lol. Thanks for putting the time in to do it my friend. Ps hopefully the cancel culture will keep their hands off Charlie brown.

He lived in Colorado Springs in the early 1950's. While living in their house in Colorado Springs, Charles Schulz painted a whimsical mural on the wall in daughter Meredith’s bedroom. The wall included early illustrations of Snoopy, Charlie Brown, and Patty, as well as many other amusing characters and objects to entertain a young child.

As a young kid I had the 45 record of 'Snoopy Vs the Red Baron' by the Royal Guardsmen, I loved that song! And my high school art teacher in the 70s made sure all the students knew Charles Schulz received a bigger paycheck than the president. Cool. Thanks for the tour! Edit: and we called the comic strips 'the funnies'

Great episode, Sarah and Jeff. Those Peanuts comics and Charlie Brown holiday specials are gold. So many fond memories growing up. I couldn’t help but think of that King of Queens episode when Arthur Spooner accused Charles Shultz of stealing the Charlie Brown character from his own life. 😁😆

Once again, I can't believe how similar our interests are. I was planning to visit the Charles Schulz in Santa Rosa recently, but then Dawn Wells died and I switched my trip around to visit her instead :-) I didn't know the museum was closed. Thanks for the preview and heads up, Jeff!

You're welcome. Nothing makes sense about this California lockdown, Steve. You can go into a Walmart or Target no problem. Go into a museum? Heck no. That's nuts. I wanted to visit a historical cemetery in the Bay Area, no, it's closed. Let's see here... go to an open place where only dead people and a scattering of living people are and they have the gate posted with a security guard filtering who goes in and for what. I'm fed up with this situation, how about you?

My first recollection of Schultz, Charlie Brown and Snoopy was in the early 1970's when my brother and I entered our dog in a Snoopy look-a-like competition the local cinema was conducting to promote the new Peanuts movie "Snoopy Come Home". Surprising our dog won, although he was brown, hairy and looked nothing like Snoopy. The other dogs just looked less like Snoopy 🤣

Not many people know that he went to art school through a correspondence course. The Art institute...you know, the old draw me ads in magazines and comics. It's a legitimate school. I actually attended it myself. They were always very proud of him and produced a book about him that was given to every student. After taking classes, he later on taught there, critiquing students work. In fact, it was while working there he made friends with a couple other teachers...Charles Brown and Frieda, who was known for her naturally curly red hair...obviously he decided to put them in his Peanuts comics.

Next to the museum is the ice rink that Schulz and his then-wife built. Schulz, having grown up in Minnesota, was an avid hockey player, a sport he continued to play well into old age. The ice rink has a coffee shop where Schulz ate lunch (the same meal) every day at the same table near the fireplace that was always reserved for him. Although it isn't advertised, the offices where Schulz worked and from where he ran his business is across a small park from the ice rink. Schulz worked there for some years after he and his first wife sold the Coffee Lane home in Sebastopol. I was able to identify the location after a little sleuthing. I don't know if the building is still associated with Schulz's businesses and/or the museum or was sold after his death. Sadly, Schulz's last home, and the one in which he died, was destroyed in the Sonoma County brush fire of a few years ago.

My wife grew up in Santa Rosa California. She used to go ice skating all the time at Snoopy's Ice Arena which is the ice arena Charles Schulz built for the town which is right next door to the museum now. My wife has told me many stories of when she used to go ice skating there as a kid in the 90s Charles Schulz used to sit in the snack bar at a specific table every day and drink coffee and watch the kids ice skate. She even remembers him asking if she was having fun ice skating. If you go in the ice rink today they have I Memorial set up at that exact table
